Didn't see an appropriate topic for this, so I started a new one, I'll move it if necessary.

So, this is the place to share your stories of just surviving (in computer games), that moment were you are just one health point, just one second of air, just on last bullet/arrow left and you make it, just barely. That moment when you feel your heart racing, as if you've just been though a harrowing ordeal yourself.

Any Mega Man game were I get to the boss of a level with my last life and less than half health left and over the course of the battle, the boss whittles me down to one pellet of energy but I pull a clutch win and beat him anyway! It is a great feeling.

Bosses that have done this to me:

Quick Man

Needle Man

Pharaoh Man

Drill Man

Wave Man

Plant Man

Slash Man

Shade Man

Turbo Man

Jewel Man

Hornet Man

Strike Man

I'm sure there are a bunch too for the X and Zero series, but I can't recall them at the moment.

I can sorta just put "Monster Hunter" or "Metal Gear" here and call it a day.

And then there was silence

several times in Splatoon. usually when an enemy activates Kraken and comes for me, i end up shooting at it for dear life, keeping the beast at bay until the timer runs out and i splat him. grin

So just last night I was playing Ratchet And Clank Going Commando, and the mutants in the Smolg level had just about killed me... and when I was down to just one enemy mutant and one or two HP left, the xp from the last enemy I just killed finally kicked in and leveled up my nanotech, killing the last mook and giving me a full health refill. [lol]

Once when I did a Classic Mode run on Super Smash Bros. 3DS with Ryu, by the time I made it to the final form of Master Core, I was at 185% damage or something like that.

Also, there was one time I was playing Smash Run with Pac Man. Pac Man got knocked down, so I dodge-rolled backwards...right underneath the Orne that I didn't realize was behind me.

Another "barely escaped the Orne" story was another instance where I was playing as Charizard on the run from an Orne, only to get stunned by a Redead. I mashed the buttons like crazy as the Orne grew closer, and finally Charizard came to his senses and escaped as the Orne was only a few pixels away from him.

Splatoon has given me a plethora of such moments. I've had a good amount of ranked battles where the enemy is poised to earn an easy victory only for my team to make a comeback from nothing. My favorite had to have been when I won a match in rainmaker in Kelp Dome where the enemy team got to about 8 points left and my team barely broke 70. They were brutal throughout the match but thankfully the rainmaker was in a position where I could get to the enemy base and goal without contention. Btw, it was an A+ match where they had an S player and I had a B player.

Likewise, C&C Red Alert 2 I've had a few skirmishes where I had the idiot glasses and promptly had a good chunk of my base destroyed by some kirovs. Rather than restart the match, I would take my G Is and engineers, rush to an enemy base, capture what I can, and rebuild my army from scratch.

I remember a time when fighting the second tier of the final boss in Final Fantasy 6 I had a confused Terra duel cast ultima on me. Thankfully I had Mog jump just beforehand.

We are all made of star stuff. Very, very weird star stuff.

I was playing Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones. On Chapter 10 on Ephraim's route you may know that there are some wyvern riders, one of which can be recruited, as well as two very annoying boats packing ballistas. Well, I kinda forgot that wyverns can, in fact, fly. So I put my healer right next to a wall, thinking I was safe. I was wrong. I put my own Wyvern Rider in range of the ballistas, forgetting he was weak to arrows. So my healer got hit twice and would've died if it weren't for one of the wyverns missing when the %chance was against it, and Cormag got hit by a ballista for a full half of his health. I had to very carefully and very quickly kill the wyverns, heal Cormag, and rescue Moulder, which I was just barely able to pull off.

I just experienced one now.

I'm currently playting through the Osu Tatake Ouendan / Elite Beat Agents games. I'd been stuck on the final song on the Hard mode in the Second Ouendan game for some time. I was improving but i still got my butt kicked repeatedly due to really hard patterns just being thrown out.

So i looked up an all 300 run just to see how it should go. and then when back into it. I got up to where i was stuck and got past with a bit of difficulty but then i started missing beats as, even though i watched it, i was still in uncharted territory.

The willpower meter was falling fast and the ouendan weere on their knees (to show you're in the red). But i some how managed to get enough beats hit on time and beat the final spinner at the end to eke out the win.

The score tally chart of my progress looked like a cliff with a ditch at the bottom .

The last time I fought one of the Top Dogs in the new Mad Max game, I had exactly one hit left in my life-bar - if the guy had hit my Max just one more time with his big club that would have been that - restart. Again. Thankfully I was able to daze him with repeated shotgun blasts and then battered his skull in with the butt of my shotgun in a QTE.

I'm sure I've had many of these, but the only ones I remember recently are in Hyrule Warriors the times I just BARELY got the gold/A rank standard for weapons I was seeking a few times.

I got something for Link RIGHT as he hit the 15:00 mark. I have missed for others after hitting 15:01, 15:02.

I got Lana's Master Quest outfit - on that stage where one could not heal and all attacks just MELTED your hearts at 1/4 heart. I had gotten her right up to the last fight with Sheik, careful to avoid being hit by anything (and I think I'd even killed Link without being hit!) and just as I was whittling Sheik down, I got a good solid hit from her, was down to a quarter heart, I was sure I'd have to start the battle over again, and one well-placed spell and...wham! Got Sheik, got my fancy new clothes.

(on that note, I find it rather amusing when I am either using a weapon with Regen or I drink a potion right as a take a fatal hit. My character goes down on the ground and I get the "Defeat" marquee, and then, they pop right back up)! Resurrection!

In which I attempt to be a writer.
