I'm honestly surprised this doesn't have an image yet, so here's a suggestion from Civilization V.

^^ [tup] Not much to improve on that except maybe lettering.

Pretty good. I'd prefer an option with a bit more color to it, but that's by no means bad. [tup]

Looks good enough. Barring anything better, I'll support it.

I've gone ahead and put it up. Caption or no?

Can't think of anything particularly witty, sorry.

I can't read anything in OP's image.

I was thinking of suggesting the tech tree from Ultimate Domain (aka Genesia) but I'm not sure the text would be any more readable at wiki size than the original suggestion.

I'm fine with the OP suggestion unless we can find something clearer.

It would help if you showed an example so we could compare.

Example (with nothing researched): http://imgur.com/tKagOXU

It's a PNG image. I'll make a JPG version if anyone can't see it.

I can create a version with everything researched.

The use of colour in the OP makes it a lot more distinctive than 14, I think.

[up][up]I think that looks more like a relationship or category diagram or something like that. It's less "more advanced stuff" and more "more specific stuff".

Like I said, I'm okay with the OP. I just wanted to throw out another option in case it proved to be better.

Am I too late to chip in my suggestion? Also, is Starcraft II too obvious a choice? [1]

At small size, it's hard to tell that's a tech tree; looks more like just a set of connected buildings.

Yep, at that size I only see buildings.

I'm going to go ahead and lock this since the pic's been up for a few days and discussion about other options hasn't been fruitful.
