Titans: Grim Autumn Season Sign Ups and Interest

A Teen Titans RP I have been thinking about committing to for a while, though I have been storyboarding ideas.

Essentially, the basic idea is that we play as either the central heroes in the Teen Titans team, who for convenience can include members from the well loved tv show or from the comics. Even including original characters if you'd like.

I'm taking a rather Broad Strokes interpretation, using some things from both comics and the TV Show, with some elements similarly from Young Justice.

The beginning plot is that Robin is calling the team together due to a danger becoming more and more clear to young heroes and Meta-Humans across the globe as the Autumn Season begins. The villains have attained powerful, futuristic technology from an unknown source, and have upscaled their operations.

And perhaps most deviously, a strange individual has been seen working with numerous villainous factions. This being someone who is virtually identical to Superboy, a long-standing team member, resulting in an amount of unusual distrust.

Nobody is quite sure what to make of this doppelganger.

The rest of the information available at the start is that the villains are contracting with a group of international mercenaries who call themselves Nowhere, because they have no central base - instead making use of bunkers attained via connection to other groups.

The Doppelganger Superboy appears to be working with several agents of Nowhere, hence the distrust. Nobody knows what happens to those who fall into Nowhere's clutches. And with the Justice League made busy by the activities of the Cyborg-Superman's space based fleet, its up to the Titans to deal with Nowhere.

In terms of basis, this RP will involve some of the characters in the panned Legion Lost crossover, though explored vastly differently. For starters, only the members of the Nowhere Elite Squad have to wear that weird Tron uniform. It also actually serves a purpose.

However, it will also have some attributes of The Long Halloween, particularly we will see how the mobsters handle not just getting beaten by teenagers, but also how they deal with rivalry from Intergang. The mob has started courting a bigger deal with Nowhere than most of the supervillain groups would be willing to make.

Definitely in. Original characters ok or would you prefer revamped, pre-existing titans?

Original characters are okay, as are revamped, pre-existing titans.

Glad to see you in this.

Well, I've been missing super-powered teenaged antics since Doa NA. waii I might PM some people to see if they want to give this a look.

Any chance of a character sheet soon?

I'll finish this asap, just leaving this skeleton as a place holder.

  • Name: Cynthia 'Cyn' Byrne (Alias: Noise)

  • Age: 19

  • Gender: Female

  • Appearance: Cynthia Byrne is fairly tall for a girl, nearly 5'11" and long-limbed with an acrobatic fitness to her lithe frame. Her skin is fair but marred by many scars and fresher scrapes, bruises and nicks about her arms, long fingers and torso. A few have crept onto her face, a long white scar running down from her left, bottom lip to the jawline but her perpetual smirk suggests these don't bother Cyn. Despite these blemishes she has a rather pretty face framed by her blonde pixie-cut hair, fined boned and friendly with dark eyes.

  • She keeps only the tops of her ears pierced and has her wrists tattooed - a pair of thick, blue lines separated by a few centimeters about the circumference of each. Cyn typically wears runners, loose pants and t-shirts when not superhero-ing and flat out refuses anything remotely lycra-like in terms of costumes. When on a mission she wears combat boots, fingerless leather gloves, black cargo pants and a bulletproof vest. She has a grey, blank mask covering half her face from the bottom of her eyes down outside the tower.

  • Personality: Cynthia is surprizingly upbeat and friendly for a former mercenary, particularly given she grew up around a family of (allegedly former) contract killers. Admittedly her sense of humor can be a touch too far on the morbid side and tends to sarcasm even in dire situations. Nevertheless Cyn, or 'Noise' as she goes by when on the job, isn't a bad person or even a violent one - she cares deeply for her few friends and defends them fiercely. She even does her best stop short of killing people anymore.

  • Cyn doesn't regret her past but murder never sat well with her, not to mention her desire to show the Titans that her ways have changed. And the law, not to put too fine a point on it.

  • Cyn loves music and many other forms of artistic expression, it being her only other passion in life. She doesn't let on but the hero business isn't really her bag, wanting instead to pursue a career in music. She stays with the Titans because they are her friends and she trusts them. This is no small matter, Cyn taking a long time to trust people and breaking this trust ends in long grudges at best. This wasn't always so true, but the broken relationship with her father changed a lot in her life.

  • Bio: Cynthia Bryne had a relatively pleasant childhood, raised by her loving mother and grandmother in a small coastal town. Her father had left before she was born and, while Cyn did wish to know who he was, she didn't mind terribly. She had a loving family and a few good friends. Admittedly her mother was often a little over protective, never explaining why or liking to speak of the past but supported her daughter's musical interests.

  • Cyn's grandmother was almost more mysterious but as she hit puberty her powers manifested and her elder explained everything. Her mother, grandmother and many generations of their family were gifted with sonic powers though sometimes skipping a generation. More than this, they had made their reputation as assassins, contract killers and mercenaries - quite skilled in such arts to say the least. Whilst Cyn's elder guardian saw potential in her, the mother was apprehensive to continue the tradition. However, young Cynthia was eager to learn and after a month continuous begging they relented.

  • Cynthia's grandma also had powers, training her as such with her mum taking on the more athletic side of things. Even by her 13th birthday she had become more than proficient as a martial artist, marksman and in stealth. Then her father came back into her life - Julian Vandemar. He claimed he only just found out about Cynthia and wanted to become present in her life - They were all suspicious but Cyn was excited to finally have a dad. A few years past, he visiting often and eventually revealing that he was mercenary as well.

  • Julian gave her little 'training jobs', gradually increasing in illegal nature until eventually culminating in an assassination. He assured her the man deserved it and Cyn completed her task. She began to question her future more, still passionate about playing music but proud nonetheless. After all, that's what her family had done her generations. He offered to take her on a real mission - he insisted it was only a little robbery for a big name client but that her help would be invaluable. Excited, Cyn agreed but they fooled her mum and gran in believing it was a vacation.

  • Cyn took on the name 'Noise' for the mission and her powers proved quite handy in breaking into the facility. However the Teen Titans arrived on the scene, they ran into Noise and a fight ensued. Her father escaped, using her as a distraction an let her be captured. She didn't believe it at first but soon became furious, broke free of her containment and helped the Titans arrest her father, becoming a comrade soon after.

  • Power(s): Acoustokinesis - Cynthia's entire body, particularly her muscles and skin, are uniquely structured to generate, absorb and manipulate sound over a great range of frequencies as well as amplitudes. She can 'hear' through her entire body far beyond normal human perception and choose pitches precisely enough to hit the resonant frequency of anything from walls to beating hearts. However, more complex harmonics are difficult as well as more physically taxing.

  • She can use infrasound to cause discomfort, nausea, hallucinations or even damage organs, ultra high frequencies also useful in this respect. Cyn doesn't tend to use her more lethal skills these days but has been known to generate shockwaves from sound pressure for burst eardrums whilst with the Titans.

  • Energy can't come from nowhere, Cyn usually absorbing ambient sound to 'recharge' herself - it is hard to create sounds whilst doing this, though it does have the happy side effect of silencing surrounding areas. Typically her powers work only in good proximity (say, within a building) and the range can depend on the volume used.

  • How you got / ended up with your power: Inborn power - inherited genetic mutation.

  • Equipment and Skills: Near peak physical condition - not the strongest or fastest hero (since most of them are beyond human capabilities) out there but capable of keeping up with the other Titans. Skilled martial artist and a decent marksman with conventional firearms from her time as a mercenary. Her equipment on missions typically includes a bulletproof vest, her radio and a grey, nearly featureless half-mask. The mask is surprisingly easy to breathe and speak through.

  • Other: Cynthia is a distant cousin of Black Canary, funnily enough. Any room she stays in has to be sound proofed to industrial standards.

I am going to post about this in the DC main thread.

A bit more information;

A few times, elite mercenaries associated with Nowhere have showed up, and what little information available about them posits them as "The Ravagers", due to their ruthless hunting and pragmatic approach to fighting. While some of the membership is more enthusiastic about their affiliation than others, something keeps them bound to Nowhere...

Beast Boy, in the aftermath of a skirmish with some Nowhere agents, has started to remember something that happened in the past, just when he developed his powers. A man in all black, with an eyeless face, scowling over his bound form, "...Cannot duplicate forms of other humanoids...abject failure..." And not much else related to this individual.

A question, is it only Teen Titans/Young Justice characters we can use or can we adapt other DC comics characters into a version that can work in this?

I was considering using either a teenage Katana or a teenage Huntress. I don't know which would go better here though.

  • Name Starfire
  • Gender Female
  • Appearance : just like the tv show!
  • Powers
Her powers are more less controled by her emotions as she needs "happy thoughts for flight and being angry for super strength for example"
  • Superhuman strength
  • Agility' Giving her grace in combat and acrobatic moves.
  • Durability, and endurance''' She is able to withstand a lot more punishment than a normal human would. She is bulletproof to give a rule of thumb but anything at least as strong as her "starbolts" will knock her out.
  • Stamina: She can fight much longer than a regular human would. In game terms it means it would require her a lot of effort to be exhausted.
  • Flight :faster-than-light (only when traveling through space). Normal flight is supersonic with great effort and momentum.
  • Ability to project purple energy''' "starbolts" from hands and eyes. They are basically superheated energy blasts.
  • Immunity to radiation.
  • Resistance to extreme temperatures: her alien body makes her feel comfortable even in the most unforgiving environments
  • Accelerated healing factor Beyond that of a human she could heal in hours that would take days to humans.
  • 'Extreme sense of cultural assimilation. She is able to learn languages and cultures by kissing people.
  • '''Fighting skills
Personality
  • Star fire is an innocent even child hero like, although she is a very naive person that should not be confused with stupidity.

Idealist to a fault and very find of her family and her friends. Starfire is a very loyal and sensitive person, she doesn't like to lie and cares about the feelings of others.

Currently she is trying to learn and adapt to the foreign culture of earth.

Definitely interested. You said both Original and established characters are okay, What about tweaked characters because I'd like to play Roy Harper but don't want to use one of the stupidest sidekick names ever invented. Also, since Roy learned to shoot from on a First Nations reservation, specifically Navaho, I's like to actually make him one. Probably not Navaho, I'm thinking Apache.

It'll have a rather serious tone at some times, but a lighter tone at others. Kind of like the show in some ways, though the major Knight of Cerebus types will be Nowhere's Doppelganger Superboy and to a lesser extent their field agents, and to a much greater degree Harvest.

Lets just say I really reinvented him.

  • Name: Tatsu "Katana" Toro
  • Age: 15
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: Katana
  • Personality: Somewhat of a modern samurai, calm, polite and collected in private yet not overly formal and serious, but fierce in the field yet not overly bloodthirsty. Her understanding of Bushido leads her to be enthusiastic and passionate about seizing the day, since she's very much aware how easy her death might come. Her word as well as her honor have a deep meaning for her and once befriended she'd be extremely loyal. Her quest of revenge is less of an affair of emotions and more of blood bound duty
  • Bio: Tastu was once the only daughter of a couple in Tokyo, Japan. This young couple were the current heads of the Toro clan, an ancient and affluent family. These parents were killed as part as an enactment of a revenge from a long-running feud between clans. The assassination was made to seem as an accident, and a convincing one at that, so Tatsu's expanded family were simply left to grieve ant take care of the child. Who stirred and raged in anger for the killers' impunity were the old guardian spirits and ancestors if the Toro family. The clan was of war heroes, errant ronin, weapon masters, war lords, how dared their scions to take the murder of the clan's heads with mere grief!?. They selected Tatsu as the tool of their revenge and rage. As such, they let the family raise her in society and they would take care of training her. The relatives of young Tatsu saw this with relief, thinking the girl had been mourning her parent's death heavily, and it was good to see her take interest to life again. The girl, as it would happen, while far from a prodigy, had incredible talent, and potential. Though to some of the guardians this might not have been enough and as she trained she was imbued with a boon. Her foray into heroing was accidental really as she had managed to identify the clan that had taken her parents' lives and had managed to track them down to the states, making herself an irritating thorn on the side of the organized crime.
  • Power(s):
    • Clarity: fearing her raw talent and extensive training would prove insufficient a group of spirits gave Tatsu "Clarity" within the battlefield, which means essentially that as she fights her senses sharpen and her mind becomes more receptive.
  • How you got / ended up with your power: Training from Hell /Spiritual boon
  • Equipment and Skills:
    • Toro-style martial arts: Tatsu was tutored extensively in an old style her clan has born since ancient times. While Tatsu is by no means a master and has much to learn, she's incredibly proficient. The Toro style favors adaptability, and thus all practitioners are proficient in various weapons and in various stances of unarmed combat, so either they're ready for any combatant or they are unpredictable by mixing weapons and stances. Tatsu herself favors swords as weapons, especially if she dual wields, and usually she can wield one she hasn't had practice with in a skilled matter by simply handling it for a few minutes.
    • Weapon vault: In essence its Tatsu's arsenal, it holds various types of swords, spears, pole-arms, staffs, maces, hammers and others, mostly Japanese in origin or style, but she has others of Chinese and European styles.
