A long time ago in the mighty Empire of Zambonta, there lived a powerful wizard and his young apprentice.
Sleep? Sleep?! Sleep is for the weak!Unfortunately, his apprentice was planning to betray him.
Now everyone pat me on the back and tell me how clever I am!Fortunately, the wizard had a plan!
The possum is a potential perpetrator; he did place possum poo in the plum pot.Unfortunately, the apprentice had a backup plan.
It's been 3000 years…Fortunately, the wizard knew of the Apprentices treachery, and killed him.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), he was soon arrested for the murder of his apprentice, the apprentice's parents obviously not very keen on having their son killed by his own master.
Fortunately, the wizard magicked himself far away.
Now everyone pat me on the back and tell me how clever I am!Unfortunately, the magic left traces the authorities could follow.
Worldbuilding is fun, writing is a choreFortunately the authorities were completely incompetent and were still unable to catch him.
Edit: Whoops

Sleep? Sleep?! Sleep is for the weak!Fortunately, the wizard was on pretty good terms with Jatonsta, and they had tea together.
Unfortunately, the wizards late apprentice began to haunt him.
Now everyone pat me on the back and tell me how clever I am!Fortunately, the apprentice was laughably terrible at haunting his former master.
It's been 3000 years…Unfortunately, he had a more competent ghost help him.
Fortunately, the wizard was able to use his magic to dispel the ghost.
Work hard, increase production, prevent accidents, and be happy.Unfortunately, the wizard used up the last of his mana casting this spell.
"Doki Doki Lit. Club" is a happy game where nothing bad happens. seriously tho? not for the faint of heart.Fortunately, he found a magic sword under a sleeping badger that was there for some reason.

"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this."Unfortunately, the sword could only be used by the pure of heart.
Now everyone pat me on the back and tell me how clever I am!Fortunately, the wizard found a loophole that allowed him to use the sword.
"Doki Doki Lit. Club" is a happy game where nothing bad happens. seriously tho? not for the faint of heart.Unfortunately, this bound his soul to the sword meaning he must always be within twenty meters of it or he shall perish.
Fortunately, he found a loophole that only part of the sword had to be near him, so he sawed off a little piece of it and superglued it to his forehead.
Work hard, increase production, prevent accidents, and be happy.Unfortunately, this made it really hard to talk to people. They kept staring at the chunk of metal on his forehead.

Work hard, increase production, prevent accidents, and be happy.Unfortunately, his hat had a hole in the top.
"I'll show you all of Paris, I'll take you on a tour, we'll go up and up and up so high they'll long for an encore!"Fortunately, he was able to turn it so that a) it hid the sword chunk and b) it allowed him to show off his ponytail.

This game is simple: we, the tropers, take turns telling bits and pieces of a story, alternating between fortunate things in the story and unfortunate things.
It goes on until the thread is locked, we all lose interest in this very thread, or whatever other reason you could think of.
Now get to work, tropers! I won't start it because I already used up all of my ideas and/or imagination on the example.
