Interesting, I will see how this plays out.

MML Was my personal all time favorite PS 1 era game, and yet, very few attempts to replicate it have been made. I'm curious as to how this particular kickstarter will turn out.

Mega Man Legends was the first game I ever played, so I'm hoping they get funded.

[up][up][up] Eh they're at the point that the team usually has nothing to do since production has finished.....games probably gone gold.....

Granted this IMO is an extreme borderline case.....

Anybody think it's bizarre how two of the main characters are named Beck and Call?

Yeah, I get that the Mega Man and Roll of MML share the same names as the Mega Man and Roll of the Classic series while looking only a little like their namesakes, but this time around, the Beck and Call don't even share the same color motifs as their namesakes.

I can't help but picture a scenario a la the first episode of Space☆Dandy's second season, in which the Beck and Call of Mighty No. 9 find a universe string and find themselves meeting the Beck and Call of Red Ash, and are collectively baffled and are basically like "But they barely look like us!"

I mean, is anyone here even willing to support this? Or its anime?

To be fair, Megaman and Roll Volnutt are vastly different from their predecessors in design. As for supporting, I don't know, this is the kind of game I really want but I don't know if it will succeed.

I won't pledge for this but if the game comes out and is good then I'll probably buy it. I'm a bit wary of it though since Inafune still hasn't finished Mighty No. 9.

This might be a dumb question, but is anybody thinking Inafune might be counting his chickens before they hatch?

[up][up][up] Er, not to question your intelligence, but I'm pretty sure I already pointed out how Volnutt and Roll Caskett only look a little like their namesakes. Just saying.

[up] Probably. I mean, the Mighty No 9 gameplay trailer had pretty mixed reception.

You know, I was going to say that there's nothing wrong with an original story, but when there's a Song of the Sea (aka a good original story), there's a handful of Delgos (aka a bad original story). (Yeah, I know those are movies and we're talking about a game, but I think my point still stands.)

But then it hit me.

This is actually not original. It's just here to scratch that itch of wanting to have a game like Mega Man Legends that is only there because the dickweeds at Capcom Japan won't get their heads out of their asses and give the people what they want, which is namely a continuation to Mega Man Legends 2. I mean, isn't that common sense? Nintendo and Sony seem to have a pretty good idea on how to give the people what they want (see their E3 2015 videos for proof on that), so why not Capcom? Are they honestly so thick-headed that they just can't put two and two together? Or worse, are they...inbred?

A part of me is fearing that this will go on until someone in Capcom Japan realizes "Hey, we should do something new and Mega Man related! Like that Mega Man Legends 3 everyone's been clamouring for." And I fear that that scenario is never gonna happen in our lifetimes.

(Deep breath.)

That said, however, another part of me kinda doesn't wanna see this get the axe either. Getting a closer look at the concept art on the Kickstarter shows me that the characters actually look pretty darn slick. And I'd hate to see ideas like this go to waste. Maybe I'm getting too paranoid about this.

Maybe this might be a good thing. The key term being "maybe".

[up] Here's BASICALLY what's happened.

It all started with Mega Man Battle Network 4, which was a highly-anticipated sequel to the highly-acclaimed BN3. When 4 came out, tons of people bought it—and most thought it was really bad. As a result, not only did 5 and 6 not sell as well, despite being better than 4, the Star Force series, ZX series, and Zero series didn't sell well. The X series was already dormant, so when Mega Man 9 came out, people were ecstatic. (The X series also had this problem due to X6—highly anticipated, but not so good).

But here's the thing—9 and 10 didn't sell very well either, and at the time Legends 3 was announced, the 3DS wasn't doing well. It was a very, very risky move to announce it as such an early stage of development, and when it was canceled, everyone knew about it.

Basically, the Mega Man game series as a whole doesn't sell well anymore, and that's why he's mostly been appearing in merchandising, rereleases of old, hard-to-find games, amiibo, armor in Monster Hunter, Smash Bros., comic books, and an upcoming cartoon. I'm confident that they will do something new with the franchise as a whole, but only until they have enough funds to risk it.

If Mighty No. 9 was going to be a big, assured hit from the start, why did we have to fund it and why do we have to fund this new game and anime after Comcept already found a publisher? I get the feeling it will sell no better or worse than any other Mega Man game.

it doesn't really help that a lot of people think MN 9 looks really underwhelming.

Called it. Mighty No. 9 was supposed to come out in April but got delayed until September. I may not have given them money for Mighty No. 9 but after that I'm definitely not giving them money for this.

[up]Uh so it got delayed. Whats the big deal. It's still coming out and it's going to have more then what was promised.

Mighty No 9 is also giving exactly what was promised and a bit more. The issue seems to be a bit of the controversy about the community and the fact that some people just don't like the graphic style of the game.

Anyway despite what anyone says almost everyone who has played the beta says it's really fun and the game is going to have even more stuff in it when it does come out.

I expect Red Ash to get funded and be fun.

[up] So I'm not the only one who wants to play the optimistic card.

Cool. For a while, I thought I was the only one who didn't want this to go entirely up in flames. grin

@ lalalei2001: So that's what happened. Huh.

I honestly don't really know what to say about that.

[up]x2

The big deal is that they've shown themselves to not respect their customer base by delaying the game and not lettings their customers know until the last minute (people complain about Sega doing with with Project Mirai DX but at least they told us about the delay ahead of time even if they did cut it close). Combine that with the fact that fans are disappointed in what the game has turned out like per the demo and Concept are asking for more money when they haven't even delivered on their first promise and you can see why people would not want to give them money.

My main concern is that they haven't even finished Mighy No. 9. If you have another idea for a game that's fine but finish your current project first.

But here's the thing—9 and 10 didn't sell very well either,

I remember Capcom saying they were happy with 9's sales, at least. I can buy that 10 didn't, but I was under the impression that 9 was a success.

This announcement... well, I'm cautious. I'll need to sit back and think before I decide if I want to go in on this.

[up][up] I think it's mainly ready and they're just ironing out whatever little bugs they can find in the finished product. And considering that they've about 2 months-ish, that should give them a lot of time to add that extra polish.

As for Red Ash, how long do you guys think it'll be until we see Expies of the Bonne family?

I gotta say, I've really lost a lot of respect for Inafune over the years, what with him constantly badmouthing Japanese games and developers, his belief that "Western = perfection", his dubious actions when he was at Capcom (such as spearheading the decision to hand Devil May Cry to Ninja Theory), and all these kickstarters even before one has ended.

Kamiya's tweet pretty much sums up my feelings towards him.

[up][up]Well, it'd be weird if they just sat around and did nothing until September.

Oh wait, they're probably working on Red Ash as we speak.

Ok ok, I got it. One half of Comcept is probably working on Red Ash and the other half is polishing Mighty No. 9.

That sounds about right.

EDIT:

(such as spearheading the decision to hand Devil May Cry to Ninja Theory)

[up](*needle scratch*)

Whoa, wait a minute. That was him? Really? I never knew that!

Also, wasn't it Capcom who screwed Inafune over?

If the game is finished and they're not releasing it then that's even worse in my opinion. We should have a chance to play one of their games before we decide to pledge money for another.

[up] Like I said, I'm pretty sure they're using the 2 months they have until release to iron out the bugs.

i don't necessarily think he was entirely wrong about the japanese industry, but then again when i think back on it the majority of my favorite games over the last few years (nier, dark/demon's souls, bayonetta, metal gear rising, catherine, bravely default, dragon's dogma, Patapon, etc) have been japanese regardless.

i just don't really trust kickstarters all that much unless they're just "proof" to publishers who will then take charge of funding the rest of the game and be held accountable to the pressures of typical games (like igarashi and suzuki with bloodstained and shenmue 3).

and to be honest, i'm not really sure that it would be difficult for inafune to get this game funded by conventional means. mn9 was a runaway success story.
