Dark comedy thrives on a betrayal of expectations. If the expectation is that the characters are murderers and thieves, then nothing is betrayed when they murder and steal.
Yeah, well, the thing here is, by now these versions of the characters have been complete jerkasses and sociopaths for so long, this subversion value you speak of has stopped being effective— by now these Titans are pretty much as consistently petty and antisocial as several versions of the Joker, so your point is turned back on its head, because the novelty factor has been worn down long ago.
When Robin breaks Kid Flash's leg to win a race out of pettiness and spite, it's hilarious because Robin is supposed to be an inspirational leader and this is supposed to be his heroic moment of triumph, and Kid Flash didn't deserve any of what just happened to him.
Overall, a character receiving karmic payback is funnier than an innocent character being punished after doing nothing wrong, though. The later can be done, but it's a very thin line before falling into Dude, Not Funny! At least the karmic punishments are easier to fall along the clauses of comedic irony.

I'm getting heavy vibes of what made the old thread get locked here. Let's tone down the skepticism a bit and point out the positives so far.
As far as art style goes, this is probably one of the best flash-animated shows on the network right now.
"We be we baby!"When this show is funniest, it is so for the same reasons Eight Bit Theatre was funny. This is most condensed with Robin - when he's being petty, it's not only funny because the things he does cross the line twice, it's funny because the underlying joke is that he's pathetic and he's just deluding himself - so the person he's screwing up the most is himself.
Imo, this is actually why Cyborg and Beast Boy tend to not be all that funny on their own. When they're being stupid and doing nasty, irresponsible stuff, there's nothing to balance it out besides them being dumb (to go back to the Eight Bit Theatre comparison, they're both Fighter). Because of that, they actually work best when they're playing off of another character, not leading the plot - that's also why in my opinion episodes like the Law of the Jungle one are some of the series' best.
Again, besides Raven who doesn't have a secret identity. Unless "Rachel Roth" counts, which it shouldn't for the same reasons "John Jones" isn't Martian Manhunter's real name.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Don't let Joker hear you say that. He'd be unhappy.
I'm aware of that, but I'm not counting her because she didn't have a secret identity. So there's nothing noteworthy about being called by her actual name in a show that usually avoided delving into the cast's backstories.
Actually, the Joker breaking Deathstroke's leg WOULD probably be funny... but for entirely different reasons. Because the Joker would probably figure out a way to make it comical.
Robin breaking Kid Flash's leg works precisely because all of the others treated it as this big inspirational moment and not because of the act itself.
As for the novelty having worn off with their doucheiness, I think the show gives them all enough heroic or pleasant moments for it to still be funny.

Bingo.
The way i see it, it's like some subjects on The Daily Show where the right ideals are mocked on and parodied while everyone's wrong idea is overblown and used for comedy.
"We be we baby!"Yeah, the last of part of the Kid Flash episode was funny because of the What Do You Mean, It's Not Awesome? nature of Robin running a short distance.
Well, that ending was bittersweet. Cyborg and Gizmo becoming friends was kind of unexpected, but Robin destroying the base was just a way to cement how evil this characterization is.
"We be we baby!"An hilarious case of Stockholm Syndrome and a crazed Robin, anyone?
Answer no master, never the slave Carry your dreams down into the grave Every heart, like every soul, equal to breakSo as it stands, Raven is only Cruel to Be Kind.
"We be we baby!"I have to say, I wasn't a fan of that episode. Raven I think, more than any of the other characters, tends to be a Karma Houdini, so there really never is any payoff for her sour attitude.
Out of all the episodes I've watched, Raven is the least likely to try and impose herself over the others without provocation (if anything, most of the time she's passive to the point of being mostly a follower) and the sanest of the team, so that balances it out, though.
yeah i find raven to be the consistently least stupid character, so i like her.
But her reasons for hate are pretty unjustified. I hate asshole behavior too, but when you hate someone who only tries to get on your good side(BB), you should explain why besides just saying "you are stupid." As far as I can remember, the episode with that book demon shows that Raven needs someone passionate and charming to make her feel like she has a heart.
"We be we baby!"Well, by this point the writers have made it quite clear they didn't care about being coherent with the Original Show. And I am not saying this as an insult, I genuinely think they made that clear.
Tonight's episode was basically artistic filler, with Raven showing more Karma Houdini attitude.

Well, Beast Boy does far more than that in a consistent basis, and even though Raven is never his specific target of jerkassery, I can't blame her for not having any tolerance for him. If it helps, she actually shows more moments of actually returning his feelings than Starfire does for Robin in this version.
At least this will be the final episode for the 'bomb' part of this week. Now lets hope the people who are steven universe fans that are chewing on CN about doing this can put an end to their complaining.
I really don't understand why they have to put SU on a pedestal when all the cartoons have their strengths and weaknesses. And TTG and SU are no strangers to criticism, especially when one of those shows is overrated as it is.
"We be we baby!"Ugh, overrated. How I hate that awful word.
I think it might do with SU being a show that many people really enjoy consistently while with Go! it people's reactions vary episode to episode. It doesn't help that Go! is very inconsistent itself. What with the characters constantly switching between being sane men, jerks, or idiots. And Also SU is constantly being advertised every fucking commercial break or has had a 5 day several hour long marathon. And SU doesn't have commercials saying it's "your new favorite show". And SU doesn't actively try and piss off it's viewers like Go! has many times before.
Plus, I have yet to hear someone who works on SU call their show "stupid" like Go!'s producers have said before.
My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013while obviously SU isn't a flawless show, I don't feel comfortable calling it "overrated". it's probably the best thing on CN right now IMO.
that doesn't necessarily mean that I agree with everything SU fans do or say, but pretty much every fandom that gets big enough will become "bad". that's a given.

i tried watching a few more clips. some of the jokes are ALMOST funny or at least kinda clever ("I'VE NEVER BEEN SO EMOTIONALLY COMPLEX"), but then we just have all the "random" stuff that's just there in an attempt to appease kids. which is fine and all, since it seems to be working but...it's just not funny and feels like a replacement for actual jokes which would still please kids.
i don't think this show is anywhere near as bad as some people are making it out to be but i also feel like it's squandering its potential.
