To me it seems pretty clear this is a "some time fuckery caused Hitler to win WWII" scenario. Churchill's nazified house will likely be a moment of horror, and there's some speculation Anthony Hopkins is playing Winston Churchill himself, so he might even start decking giant nazi robots in the face whilst smoking a cigar, who knows.

PS: Churchill's role in the Bengal famine is still a source of debate amongst historians.

Yeah, I heard that Hitler told the Luftwaffe to avoid bombing Blenheim Palace because it was where he wanted to have as his headquarters after they took England, so it's at least plausible if there is an alternate history plot.

Churchill's specific role might be debated but the fact he was a jingoistic, xenophobic racist is certainly not (and I say that as an Englishman and he is pretty much our equivalent of Abraham Lincoln). He just also happened to be exactly the right person to hold the country together in the face of the most devastating war in modern history.

If time travel IS involved presumably we're going to see WW 2... WITH TRANSFORMERS. And of course those evil Decepticons are going to be down with the Axis powers and the heroic Autobots steadfast allies of the, erm, Allies.

Considering WWII was a sort of transitional war (it marked the end of the old "world dominated by colonial empires" era and into the "national alliances and you're seen as behind the times or a jerk if you still have colonies" era) I'm not surprised he also had those flaws but was also charismatic enough of a leader to keep Britain together.

I'm honestly more surprised that the location is even an option for filming a movie. On top of that these kind of things would be mandatory to inform the owners/curators of the building on what they were planning, so they had to get permission to do such a thing. It's not like they accidentally damaged a landmark with movie explosions.

That is a good point. I mean there's all this outrage and handwringing about the fact they are using Blenheim as a location but they had to have permission to do it. If it was really that big a deal and really that sacrosanct then the actual curators would only have to say 'Nope!' and it wouldn't happen.

Oh man, these movies barely make sense as is, I can't wait to see how more disjointed they become when Time travel is brought up. If indeed there's time travel to be had.

Time travel?

Oh dear, next they'll be screwing Beast Wars over, won't they?

As much as I hate to admit it, the "Nazis taking over England" plot actually does makes sense if Galvatron is backing the Third Reich for global domination.

If Time Travel is the premise I'm not too thrilled with the idea. Just about any fantasy/sci-fi series eventually hits time travel, and Transformers already pushes the envelope being about alien transforming robots.

This will also be literally the fifth time in as many movies that there is a Secret History between the Cybertronians and Earth (Hoover Dam, Pyramids, Moon Landing, Dinosaur Extinction).

[up] It'll be the sixth one if you count the Chernobyl incident in the third movie.

[up] 7th if you count Jetfire and the Seekers like that model T one Simmons pointed out living among us all that time in the 2nd film.

8th if you count Sam's Great Grandad finding Megatron as distinct from the Hoover thing.

Simmons mentions that a lot of modern tech was created by studying Megatron and the Allspark after Grandad Whitwicky brought them home. So one can say the entire 20th century was decades of Secret History between the two species.

I was saying more along the lines that something from Cybertronian History turns out to have impacted known Earth history as well, not that only one thing was influenced. Hoover Dam created to hide the Allspark and Megatron, Pyramids and Petra are remnants of the Primes and the Solar Harvester, The Ark crashing on the moon inspired the Space Race, aliens used Earth as harvesting grounds for raw transformium and wiped out the dinosaurs (which is actually a kind of clever revisionist idea, the reason scientists know an event occurred at all is primarily because of leftover sediment).

I wonder how long it takes for them to take a leaf from Prime's book and say the Earth formed around Unicron's corpse.

but HOW?

That would require Dark Energon to enter the picture, I guess. They could even retcon it into:

1) The Allspark being attracted to Unicron

2) by the Sun Harvester built there to power the Allspark and resurrect him

3) with Sentinel, Megatron and Optimus being manipulated into jettisonong the Allspark into space so that it could reach Unicron, then Sentinel opening the space bridge to warp Primus' husk around Earth's core (Unicron)

4) the whole project interfered with by the Quintessons

Dunno. I do want Unicron, but it would require a shit ton of retcons.

[up] Only if they lift all of Orson Welles dialogue from the Movie and use it in the film.

Never saw the last one with Marky Mark. I mean, i enjoy the transformers movies as a guilty pleasure (Though I genuinely LOVED the first live action one.) but is it worth watching on netflix?

Let me list the pros and cons for you:

Pros:

  • Flat-nose Optimus cameo
  • No Shia!
  • The annoying wacko side human gets killed early on
  • Lockdown Gunface! Not voiced by Lance Henriksen though, I wanted to hear his General Tesler voice.
  • Him Grimlock
  • Galvatron, voiced by Frank Welker. Actually good old Megs.
Cons:
  • Optimus' new form is just derpy
  • Previously On.
  • Shitty plot, which isn't a surprise. I liked DOTM better.
  • Dinobots only appear for 5 min.
  • Previous autobots killed, except for Opti and Bee.
  • Lennox and Epps are gone. Returning for TF 5, though.
  • The humans might not be as annoying as the Witwickys, but they're bland
  • New transformations are just shapeshifting into anything, which defeats the whole purpose of morphing into a vehicle
  • Boring baddies. Basically MECH from TFP with government support.
  • Explosions, scantily clad hot girls and product placement, Bay outdid himself
  • TOO FUCKING LONG. Even for a Transformers movie.

I actually thought that if they trimmed a half hour from AOE it would have been the best Transformers film. The first film, despite not having the robots as big a focus as people wanted, was the best film overall because by the time the movie was over you still wanted more. The other films were all 2 1/2+ hours and you were often done long before the movie was done. Michael Bay said he wanted it to be closer to 2 hours but it looked like he was overruled, and some artifacts imply a number of executive meddling mandates forced the movie to be as long as it was. Things like a Chinese actress with a prominent role and action scene, it wasn't bad but it wasn't needed.

The movie's strength was that the plot was a lost less complicated and Wahlberg is just a stronger protagonist.

I will agree that the film was WAAAAAAAY too long.

And not nearly enough Dinobot time. Angry Triceratops robot was funniest - like an angry large cat. Also, the phrase from Samurai bot "I was expecting a big car" actually made me grin.

Overall, rather liked it, but it was a bit bloated. And the nu transformium transformers seemed.... lazy. With that, they don't then NEED to look like the other transformers as they aren't shifting components.

Galvatron's design was a bit much. But YAY! Original Megatron! Would've been one better if Leonard Nemoy had done some words too....

Overall, rather liked it, but was very very bloated. And the Autobot's new crew seemed very... at odds. Almost calling to mind "Dinobot" from Beast wars and the aggressive attitudes. Also Bumblebee was much more impulsive this time round.

Better than ROTF and DSOTM though.

I mean I thoughti t was about Optimus going to planet Somethingorother to find out what these knights are, and filling us in on what Optimus is supposed to be - I thought maybe this was part of the G1 lore I didn't know about and was too lazy to research.

After Optimus ripping a Decepticon's face off and immediately knowing where to find giant robot dinosaurs, I shouldn't be surprised by this stuff anymore.
