Anyone seen Heathers the Musical? The movie's one of my favorites. The musical's on YouTube.

I'm ambivalent on it; some fun and catchy tunes like "Candy Store" and "Dead Girl Walking," but some of the lyrics are goofy as hell ("We can start and finish wars / We're what killed the dinosaurs / We're the asteroid that's overdue!"), and the dark comedy is a bit declawed. Some really weak choreography too, from someone who's removed enough from the technicals that my bar's pretty low.

I've watched it on Youtube. I adore the original movie. It's a cult classic and I am a die-hard member of that cult. As for the musical, "Beautiful" and "Candy Store" are my two favorite songs. I love the melodies and I find the lyrics and performance to be really entertaining. It's a shame they're the first two songs in the musical. The rest wasn't bad, but it wasn't really that memorable.

The movie's one of my favorites. The musical's on You Tube

This video is unavailable. >:(

I just stumbled upon some of the sings on Youtube and immediately bought the album. "Our Love is God" and the reprise of "Dead Girl Walking" are going to be in my head for the rest of the month.

I've not seen the film, but after catching a recording of the show and listening to the album, it looks like I'll have to ammend that. It isn't the strongest show in terms of consistent songs, but when it's good, it's very good, and the show's dialogue is pretty good, unlike a lot of other shows I've seen where the effort mostly goes into the music.

With Mean Girls going to Broadway next spring, I have my doubts Heathers will ever make it to Broadway full.

However, there's a You Tuber (https://www.youtube.com/user/MissyAsylum) who's done almost all of the musical numbers in a storyboard/animatic format and a lot of them are pretty creative and clever in how they get the song's intents across using lighting, visual metaphors, and etc. I'd say Life Boat, Dead Girl Walking (Reprise), and Big Fun are the best she's done. Certainly would get my hopes up for an animated musical.

Ugh. Animated Musical. Long time since I saw that in theaters.

Though, because they took a more LGBT friendly stance to the source material, I wonder what sort of updates might go into a future production and other things.

For one, I think that having more LGBT background characters would take an interesting turn on JD's plan and, obviously, Dead Gay Son. If everyone at the school doesn't really care about gay or straight, then it puts JD's plan in a very different light and there could be a further joke during Dead Gay Son where NONE of the student aged characters really are hung up on the gay-straight thing, but all of the parents and older characters are making a huge deal out of it.

I also would probably add in that Veronica stops by her locker to get her Heather Croquet mallet before confronting JD. It would bring things around a bit to where Veronica isn't rid of all her 'Heathers' traits and that not everything she got from them was detrimental because she can use the mallet to knock the gun from JD's hand. This would then make more sense to her Finale line of 'I can't promise no more Heathers' and also reference that she's still friends with Heather Mc Namara.

It's been a while since I offered my original opinion. I have to say the musical grew on me a lot since then, and so have a lot of the second act songs. I actually used "Lifeboat" for an audition once.

It looks like Heathers is getting a lot of popularity from the titular trio's vocal similarities to the Schuyler Sisters (Hamilton as a gateway drug tongue) which is cool.

I stumbled on to a few songs, then read a bit about it and thought it sounded like fun.

It's purely fan speculation, but I've seen a lot of people headcanon that Veronica's bi, based on what could be interpreted as flattering remarks about the Heathers' looks, the fact that in the movie she kissed Duke, and she asks Martha if she's doing anything that night. Sure it probably doesn't mean that, but Martha does seem surprised by the question at first, and it's a very similar line she said to JD.

Either way, I find it as the post above mentions an interesting addition that could be added if part of her reason for being drawn into the Heathers is partial physical attraction. In that case, JD wouldn't be an exception, he'd simply be the first person she had feelings for.

It was so weird hearing my class randomly singing "Seventeen" for no reason

Like, I'm guessing they didn't even know the context of the song lmao
