My gut reaction is: no.
Specifically, we'd end up with high-ranked users lording it over low-ranked users, which is the exact opposite of how a wiki is supposed to run.
Boiling the sap a bit more gives me that this would foster competition, not cooperation - again, contrary to the spirit of any wiki.
Be careful what you wish for, 'cause you might just get it all...

While I see some benefit in encouraging sausage-making work here, such a system strikes me as the sort of thing that will trigger all manner of bad social behaviours.

Ok this might be a major wishlist, but I'll put it on the table anyway and see what you guys think:
Abstract: Tropers are rewarded according to the role they play in this site:
(these roles aren't necessarily mutually exclusive)
The XP gained contribute to Masteries within the specific relevant domains:
The Explorer Quizzes might come in two flavors:
type 1 is easy enough, simplest form is providing multiple choice answers. More difficult would be just letting the player type their guess. The answer schema can be derived from existing relationships defined by builders, e.g. by harvesting the links from sentences in the trope page and ask the player where does the link in the sentence point to.
type 2 quizzes is more subjective in nature. If the examples the player listed already exists in the tvtropes relational database, that's trivial to confirm. If it's a novel relationship however, that would need a Mentor to grade its accuracy (we can use similar voting system like God Ville).
An emergent benefit of type 2 quizzes is that it also helps build the system's relational graph, so the player may get some Builder XP as well for this contribution.
Mentorship's grading privilege is only unlocked after the troper has gained sufficient mastery over a relevant domain (see Trope/Media/Brand Mastery above), and the privilege is also domain specific (i.e. even if you are a Decon Master, you cannot grade Dr Who Brand quizzes unless you have Mastery in that brand as well)
If it is too computationally expensive to track player stats across all tropes & brands, then we may limit tracking to only the most recent x subjects, and/or allow the player to pin favorite subjects to track. We may also offer premium feature to track across extra subjects.
