Does Not Illustrate: Enlightened Antagonist

I'll keep my reason for the thread nice and simple - I can clearly see the "enlightened" part on the image, but not the "antagonist". If the villainous part is supposed to be shown through the bubble text, it's too small to read without effort and even then, doesn't say anything particularily villainous.

Agreed, it's relying on the caption to get the "antagonist" part across.

Yes it is, but I don't think that's a fatal flaw. "Part of the idea is only communicated by the caption" is fine IMO, though it may be a weakness compared to an alternative.

I"ll see if I can find a better page from that series... the guy in question certainly qualifies at any rate.

Here's some of the Bleeding Monk from Harbinger for starters: 1◊, 2◊, 3◊. They may need a caption to get the entire meaning across, but he certainly looks more villainous (or sinister at the very least) than the guy in the current pic.

I like the third.

These are better than current, IMO. They look simultaneously sinister and enlightened

Huh, odd. I find the monk pics to look much less antagonistic. Spooky, yes, but not like an actual villain. From the images alone I'd think he's some sort of a tortured spirit or something, not a villain at all.

I like the third. He looks sinister, villainous - but at the same time, certainly enlightened.
