They put Ryu in there despite his latest game being Playstation 4 and PC exclusive. To this day I have no idea what they were thinking with any of the guest DL Cs, Bayonetta aside.

Ryu at least is owned by a company already represented in Smash and is iconic. Cloud is just iconic.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Sakurai is also a huge Street Fighter fan.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Cliff Bleszinski is a huge Miyamoto fan but I doubt he or any one in his company is allowed to bend over backwards and dedicate millions of dollars and resources to create content that advertises for the Xbox's competitors.
It doesn't have anything to do with advertising. Smash Bros has always been about iconic characters duking it out. If there is an opportunity to add an iconic character, it's taken, regardless of if it benefits another company with advertising. Smash Bros has always been Doing It for the Art, not Money, Dear Boy.
...Yet all those characters cost money, the game sells other forms of downloadable content, relevant games each character stars in (and links to learn more about/buy those games) are listed on the Smash For's website, and Corrin was chosen with the explicit intent to help sell copies of the newest Fire Emblem.
Video games are a business, especially games as big as Smash, and I still don't see how they stand to gain investing so much money in characters that Nintendo ultimately doesn't benefit from, unless Amiibo sales are lot more lucrative than I think.
Most of Nintendo's money last year came from amiibos. Game and hardware sales were down IIRC but amiibos were one big + sign for Nintendo.

Oh. There we go than, I suppose.
The characters themselves cost money to purchase, as DLC. Far as I can tell, it's a win-win scenario for Nintendo and the company that owns that character.
It's still way up in the air, but SE still has tight bonds to Nintendo's handheld market and the NX might be considered a good platform for them to develop or port to.
I sure said that!Well Street Fighter was on a Nintendo...3DS :I I just think if you can't get a game for your console when you promote other franchises it's a missed opportunity.

Mileena MadnessPlus Ryu's in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and the Street Fighter 2 series is on the Virtual Consoles for both Wii and Wii U.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Also...Smash is a mix of both money/artistic reasons. Personally, I think Sakurai leans more to artistic, but doesn't turn down things that would make Nintendo more money.
We happen to know exactly why Sakurai picked Cloud over the other characters SE brought to him thanks to the interview with him and Nomura. He could've picked any of the heroes or villains who started out on Nintendo systems but took the one that he thought was more iconic than all the others even if his history is pretty much the reason SE left Nintendo for Sony.
I like how you called it the Street Fighter 2 series
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. There are multiple versions of Street Fighter II on the virtual console.
Isn't he the one who was a big piece of shit and complained about how Nintendo really demanded quality from SK for Eternal Darkness and Twin Snakes when he just wanted his devs to poop something barely functional and take the money ASAP?
He'd fit right in with what Konami's become, at least.
Well, regardless, a proper Twin Snakes port would be more than welcome.

I sure said that!I would second wanting a Twin Snakes port for NX. MGS 1 is a third party game that's been on my radar for a while (and MGS 2, but I have the HD Collection. Or I could just download it onto my PS 3. Or I could get a PS 2 Slim and a copy of the game).
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Dyack's just trying to stay on the radar after his Eternal Darkness spiritual successor kickstarter failed.
Man, NX rumors have dropped to naught since E3. Painful waiting time ahoy!
Ubisoft says that they expect the NX to "take back" casual players. Given how they treated the Wii U, I'm inclined to be a bit skeptical of their support for the NX.
Given Ubisoft's precarious ownership situation right now, even if they didn't have a poor history on the subject, I'd doubt on the basis that a Vivendi hostile takeover would probably render current statements moot anyway.
"Taking back" the casual audience is going to be really difficult to do since that audience has moved on to mobile devices. I kinda wish they wouldn't always try to innovate. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.
I guess I don't get why Nintendo doesn't make a traditional console anymore.

Don't worry, Nintendo will get the Final Fantasy VI remake to make up for it.
