Expect plenty of Dragon Quest on NX, at least.

I sure said that!

If NX does flop, you can kiss all those mainline DQ games goodbye, considering Nintendo is the only one who feels they're worthy enough to localize

Not really, SE are still the ones translating them etc so they can sell them again on mobile later. DQ haven't done well in the west so if the NX is a flop it would just mean the games would just go back to only coming out in Japan on NX and PS 4 or become digital only titles on PS 4 and PC in the west. The chance all 3(4 counting Neo) versions of DQXI come out in the west is tiny already(guessing PS 4 and NX are the only ones we'll see unless the 3DS remake(since the second got pushed to 2017 by Nintendo) sells well).

SE has changed a lot since Wada got ousted. The fact we're getting the Heroes spin-offs on PS 4 and PC would never have happened with the old SE.

I wouldn't expect DQ to ever come to the west in any format if the NX or DQXI flops. DQXI is their first true console JRPG entry in over decade, considering DQX is an MMO, and the fact the series has been Nintendo and mobile exclusive for quite some time. They'll probably go mobile after that considering they probably wouldn't waste their console resources on franchise that is mostly popular in Japan when they could be using them on a franchise that's popular in most other territories as well like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.

Hell I doubt they would throw us a bone with digital only considering they wouldn't even bother with the 3DS DQ games.

DQXI won't flop. The NX might end up flopping but the game won't because it'll be on PS 4 and 3DS as well and none of the recent games have flopped in Japan.

That's in Japan. I'm talking about the rest of the world.

And considering DQ Heroes and Builders didn't do too hot...

DQHI, DQHII and Builders all launched as the top selling games launch week and held onto that for a long time while also making PS Vita and PS 4 sales improve. Last I checked they've all sold 1 million+ in Japan and two of them aren't even out in the rest of the world yet.

In a world where SE are releasing everything that's easy to port on PS 4 and PC we'll get it someday.

[up]Why so cynic of the NX guys? There's no necessity in thinking lowly for an unreleased console by now.

But that's still in Japan. DQ is a really Niche series outside of it.

Dragon Quest Heroes didn't do too hot over here. I don't really expect Builders to do any better (Don't know why I said it already came when it clearly didn't) and it comes out next month.

There's a difference between porting and localizing. The last few DQ games haven't even been localized by Square, they had Nintendo do it. I don't see much changing just because it would be on Sony now.

[up][up]Because with Nintendo there's more people than with any other company who are looking for reasons to write new consoles off as a failure. Goes back to the whole issue of Nintendo always being judged harsher than other companies, even if they take similar actions.

[up][up]The 3DS games are being localized by SE actually. Nintendo are paying for it etc(probably because their 2016/2017 3DS plans were barren and needed something in the market along with Pokemon) but its SE who're translating them to all the different languages(probably so they can use it for mobile ports in the future).

[up]Yeah that's what I meant, my bad.

[up][up]I personally think people want Nintendo to do a Sega so bad, they're just itching for their next console to fail so they can be one step closer to that Legend of Zelda on PS 4, or that kiddy Mario they love to call it in 1080p and 60 FPS.

[up][up] That would be nice. Nintendo, internally, isn't interested in making another F Zero game, so outsourcing it to another dev would be fitting.

If rumors are pointing to what I think they are pointing to, I don't see how the NX will flop when it will inherit the legacy of the 3DS.

Haven't Nintendo outsourced most of the last few F-Zero games anyway? I know GX was developed by SEGA, but I don't know about the others.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.

F-Zero GX was developed in tandem by a handful of internal Nintendo devs and Sega's now-defunct Amusement Vision division, to be precise. Apparently, it ran on the Super Monkey Ball engine.

Would Nintendo announce the NX on September 13th?

They had events on September 13th for Wii, 3DS, and Wii U.

  • September 13th, 2006: Wii event
  • September 13th, 2011: 3DS event
  • September 13th, 2012: Wii U event

Super Mario Bros. was released in Japan on September 13, 1985.

If the reveal is happening before TGS, we'll know about it this week. Otherwise it's coming late September or October.

On the earlier topic, KH3 will probably come to NX, depending on whether it's in the ballpark (above or below) Xbox One power, which nobody has a straight answer on outside of lowering expectations and tradition for a very untraditional device.

They have been working on getting some of their franchises to other consoles, read Xbox, so if the NX appears to fit the bill they'll definitely look into it.
