It's essentially the steering wheel. Whatever happened that got it detached will probably be a mystery for the ages.

I admit that one of the things I'm looking forward to seeing is Launchpad and Donald interacting.

Oh yeah.

Since Launchpad was essentially Donald's replacement in the original series, they rarely ever interacted (Donald was only ever in less than a handful of episodes).

I do imagine Launchpad's role being different. Maybe there will more emphasis on him as a pilot.

Launchpad's an employee, but Donald is a family member. That's the core difference between them, plotting and character development-wise.

If we're still playing with the Gravity Falls parallels, if Scrooge's the Stan, the nephews are a collective Dipper and Webby is a Mabel, then I imagine Donald will be a Ford of sorts (hard luck adventurer distanced from his Stan-like relative) and Launchpad will be kind of a Soos.

The real test would be putting Donald, Launchpad and Fenton in the same scene and give each his own role and feeling.

We don't have any guarantee that Phenton is ever gonna make it in.

I mean, is he even popular enough (though I suppose Gizmo-Duck might make him a lock, especially with his appearances on Darkwing Duck, but I don't claim to know which characters are the most liked of the old tv cast).

I know I loved Gizmo Duck as a kid.

If they do have Fenton and Gizmoduck in the show, I wonder if they'll explain how can Gizmoduck have a wheel when Fenton has perfectly functioning legs.

My fandom theory is that Fenton is a master at the unicycle and as such, installed one into the Gizmoduck suit.

If they ever bring Darkwing Duck back, I wouldn't mind if they just moved Fenton over to his group of characters.

IMO, the most fun thing about watching Gizmoduck in Darkwing was knowing what he's really like from watching Ducktales. There wasn't a lot of seeing Fenton be Fenton in Darkwing (iirc, he's only out of the suit in one episode).

Hey, I know they pretty much established that Mickey Mouse is very much off-limits, but did Mickey ever show up in the Disney Duck comics to begin with?

The Mouse and Duck comics are traditionally kept very separate, beyond the occasional reference here and then, though they do nominally exist in the same universe.

There are some overlaps and occasional crossovers, though they tended to be on the rarer side. Usually they cross over in some sort of special anniversary celebration comics, though some artists like Paul Murry would haplessly throw them together whenever he felt like it.

The two most noteworthy and recent Duck-Mouse crossover examples are the The Orb Saga (1999-2000) and Mythos Island (2003).

Yeah, while both Donald and Launchpad tend to play the role of Scrooge's lackey/the muscle in the group, the two have plenty of characteristics that set them apart. Like how Donald is completely willing to call out Scrooge when he needs to (and even when he doesn't).

Also, I think I may have a theory as to Glomgold's nationality in this show. What if, in this version, Glomgold is still African, but he dresses up in a kilt and the like to outdo Scrooge. Think about it. He's already Scrooge's greatest rival. He tries to outdo Scrooge in becoming the richest duck in the world. He tries to outdo Scrooge in finding treasure. Why not try to outdo Scrooge in being Scottish too?

[up][up] I think there are a few supporting characters that float between both as well. Mostly villains. The Phantom Blot, Pete and the Beagle Boys have appeared in both universes and spinoffs.

No kidding?

I had no idea the Beagle Boys appeared outside of any Duck related media. I mean, they showed up in a Darkwing Duck comic I saw on Scans Daily a while back, but Darkwing, as we've discussed here, has a closer tie to Ducktales than most.

I wasn't aware Pete showed up in Duck stories, but it makes sense, since I re-call Donald has been another opponent of his in a few cases.

European comics have Magica De Spell consistently hang around with Mad Madam Mim of all people. To the degree Mim is pretty much her regular sidekick, although frankly I think it should be the other way around. Mim seems to be far older, more wicked and more versatile with her powers in her source movie, so I never was too impressed by those comics dumbing her down.

She also starred in her own comics, acting similarly, albeit less murderous, as her movie counterpart.

In addition to Madam Mim, Captain Hook and the Evil Queen (in her hag form), have both been recurring baddies in the Duck comics in the fifties.

Pete's showed up everywhere. He's like the Dr. Doom of the Disney shorts and comics universes, in the sense that while he does have a dedicated nemesis (Mickey) he's also something of a universal, free agent villain who every character can go up against if the story needs his brand of villainy.

Comicvine even lists him with over a hundred appearances in the Jose Carioca comic, way over in Brazil.

I think Emil Eagle (normally Gyro Gearloose's nemesis) has also fought Jose Carioca a few times.

Regarding Donald & Mickey appearing together in comics, well, there's of course the thing that Donald started his comics comics career as a Mickey's sidekick / occasional appearence in addition to Goofy et. al. in the newspaper strips (I think the relevant authors were Taliaferro and Gottfredson?). That was before the Barksian developments.

And then there's this very recent thing by Lewis Trondheim and Keramidas I haven't read yet.

But both are "outside" the mainstream Euroducks universe. (Especially the latter one, which to my understanding is a special BD thing...)

Very early Donald (with the long bill and black legs) appeared in Gottfredson's Mickey Mouse comic strip, He didn't last terribly long though, before moving over into his own strip.

They're 8-bit games.

Who cares if they're at 1080? It's not like it'll make them look better.

Anyway, found the announcement trailer!

They even used an 8-bit version of the old Disney Afternoon song.

Well played Capcom. Well played.
