It looks like they're doing pinky swears...not indicative at all. +1 to pull.
I'd like to understand the top one because it doesn't make any sense.
I think it's supposed to be the same guy in both pictures. In the top one, he's making a promise to his little sister and in the bottom one he's making a promise to a random little girl because (presumably) she reminds him of his sister. Of course, that's all supposition and none of that is very explicit in the picture; I'm mostly inferring from the context
Judging from the example entry, I don't think those 2 guys are the same person at all.
Top image is of Lelouch and Nunnally, the bottom one seem to be of Li Xingke and Tianzi.

In other words, the fact that it's not as clear at first glance means that it's a bad image.
Anyway, we could look in the webcomics section for ideas, like two panels from [1].

Panels 2 and 3 from that might work, though it's not the clearest of examples.
Panel 3 should do, no?
No. That's not enough context. We need to see who he's standing up for.

I'm good with panels 2+3 of the EGS comic pending something else.
6 is more Knight Templar Big Brother than this.
Not really. He hasn't actually done anything to the bully to qualify as a knight templar. I'm good with 6, if only because I don't want the current to stay.
Bump; any other thoughts?
I like the bottom of the current. He looks kind, protective, and older.
I can kind of accept the EGS suggestion. Not great, but I think it's an improvement.
Check out my fanfiction!Bump; crowner?
Not a fan of the current image at all.
Deadclock on this has expired. Tank it?
Yup. Locking up.
The trope is about an older/stronger character wanting to protect a younger/weaker character. The image has two pairs of characters doing some kind of weird hand signs. In the second pic, at least the character on the left is clearly older, but in the first one nothing indicates one of them is older or stronger than the other. And more importantly, the whole "protective instinct", which is the main part of the trope, isn't really illustrated by either. A proper trope pic should at least show one character protecting another from something, in my opinion.
