The most recent trailer I saw strongly hinted that The Lost Village may be mostly inhabited by female Smurfs.
Yeah that trailer seemed very........... awkward to watch. This is going to be a story with a commentary on how different women are from men?? I REALLY hope not!

And the smurf village is full of male smurfs
You know what that means?
A raunchy film directed by Seth Rogan!

New theme music also a boxHere's hoping they only have a single male Smurf, although no female Gargamel. That'd be taking the gag too far, I think.
Anyway, Cracoucas! That was Cracoucas, right? I loved him in the comic; the animation watered him down IIRC, but in the comic I remember him being like a fucking Terminator on wings that JUST. WOULDN'T. STOP. I doubt he'll regain that glory here, though.
Actually the International Trailer hints that the unseen things aren't all female since it appears that one of them is male.
If I recall, he wouldn't stop even after they dealt with him (by shrinking him, if I recall); it's just after that, the Smurfs didn't pay any attention to him and he got discouraged and left.
I REALLY hope this film isn't unintentionally misogynist.
The trailer that I saw (which emphasized that Smurfette was the only girl, living with a bunch of "dudes") would seem to skew the other way. I don't mean to imply any agenda or any sentiment so strong as to be problematic, but it sounded like it was going point up the issues faced by a girl surrounded by nothing but guys. One expects, while I'm absolutely certain it'll be played for kid-friendly laughs, that the guys will come off as unintentionally coarse and gross and whatnot. Again, this is based on a single line from the trailer I saw, and not from any direct visual evidence or anything, so it's entirely possible I'm wrong.
Hey, does anyone else think we should have a page for this movie or we don't have enough info to do that?
Bump.
Sony Pictures Animation-related news:
Sony Pictures Animation has a new production head in Pam Marsden.
...Honestly, at this point, Sony's been making the lousiest decisions with their animation division that I don't know if this is good news or not.
Bump again.
Um...I don't know if you guys know, but the Smurfs are getting awfully Smurfed by The Boss Baby.
This is...an unexpected turn of events.
I mean, critically speaking, it's doing better than the last 2 movies...but not by much.
Hmm.
...
(Does anyone think this could be karma over Tartakovsky's Popeye?)
From what I heard, it's biggest offense is that it's obnoxious and loud and this is squarely aimed at kids with little to offer to adults.

That's really sad. Sony just can't seem to make a good movie these days. Especially not a good Animated Movie.
I would really love to see a good Smurf's movie one of these days, but based on what I'm hearing, this isn't the one...
Yeah, I'm very disappointed myself. It really looked like it was going to be a winner going by the trailers. (Or leaps and bounds better than the live-action movies at the very least.)

"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this.".... neither films seem particularly ground-breaking or interesting to begin with, so I am just as perplexed as you. Even MORE confusing given that this is The Boss Baby's second week int theaters! Which makes you really sad.
Speaking of, I did see Smurfs just now. It's not even for adults except for some mildly light jokes and great animation for those adults who are into examining animation. NONE of the jokes got any response from my theater. The story is utterly basic if you know anything remotely general about the Smurfs, and the trailers gave away most of the new stuff. The pacing never stops to breathe. There are a few pop tunes And frankly, I am getting SICK of the Disney Death! Kill it. And don't give the Disney Death a Disney Death please! Lastly, I noticed that even though this barely resembles the previous 2 live-action films, for some reason, Raja Gosnell demanded he still work on this as one of the producers!!! The pop tunes must've been his idea.
Good things? .... wel I just said the animation is great! Once again SONY breaks ground with how cartoony they can push CGI. Plus they cast a lot of famous voice actors for the extras, including Dee Bradley Baker as Asreal. Lastly, the movie does remember that Smurfette was created by Gargamel out of clay, which turns out to be a major story point.

I keep hearing the film called "sexist" in reviews, which is odd since the script was written by two women. I'd kinda like to see a good Smurf film that doesn't focus on Smurfette.

The newest 3 Smurfs movies all had stories focused of Smurfette as either the main character or as a key driving force on the story. Gittin kinda tired.
Christ, it's at about 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. I mean, the Hotel Transylvania movies aren't too much higher either but they at least have really great squash and stretch animation and Genndy Tartakovsky behind them. I'll watch this one sometime to get a better opinion of it but I highly doubt it could ever be as bad as the first two Sony movies with Neil Patrick Harris.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?A film that many Smurfs fans have been asking for AFTER two horribly misguided adaptations is finally made with 100% CGI cartoony animation, and it gets 40% on rottentomatoes, poor reviews, and a THIRD place at the box office! Abandon ship!!!
I wonder if they at all address the fact that Smurfette doesn't really have much of a personality outside of being the only girl in a village of about 100 boys. With a new village entirely composed of female Smurfs, with their own distinctive identities and personalities defined apart from their genders, what becomes of Smurfette? Her very name just means "The Girl Smurf," which is essentially meaningless when there are a bunch of other girl Smurfs around.

They do. In fact, it's her driving motivator to start the main plot.
can we all realize the world would rarely bend over backwards for pandering? hate to be a cynic but that's the truth.
MIAI enjoyed the movie. It had great animation, SmurfBlossom was hilarious, and I almost teared up at Smurfette's sacrifice and funeral.
I haven't seen the other movies from Sony, and it doesn't sound like I'm missing anything.
But is this movie at least a little decent by itself? I don't think I want to see the other attempts just to appreciate this one a bit more.

There's no reason he can't be all of them.
Your momma's so dumb she thinks oral sex means talking dirty.
