Tropers - The first of many exciting updates to TV Tropes is upon us! In this update, we focused primarily on making the header and side navigation bars consistent throughout the site. We also reworked a ton of the backend code to allow for easier and more rapid development as we move forward.
Some of you may love the new design, others may hate it. Either way, we would love to hear from you below. We are listening, I promise.
If you have a bug to report, please use the designated thread on the Tech Wishlist and Bug Report to let us know about it.
Now get back to Troping!

What's with the new gray thing on the right side of the page? Everything feels squished now. Also, the check-mark thingies on the forums seem to have disappeared.
Edit: Things seem to be fixed now.

You can't post naked image UR Ls to anything not on tvtropes.org, the parser interprets that as trying to display the image directly. You have to use brackets to make it a link.
The footer (columns for Tropes, Forum, Reviews) disappears completely if you zoom in too much. This makes "new edits" — the main route through which I visit the site — inaccessible. Since I have very poor eyes, I generally surf the Web at very high magnification. I think this is a failure in accessibility design.
"New edits" is also available in the Tools menu, unless the sidebar also disappears at high magnification.
OK, this is important: We believe you that the new admins are working hard on the new version of the wiki. The new design is nice, and the mobile version is a definitive improvement. But the overhaul is taking so long... sure, giving us access to the dev site would be too much, but maybe you could post some screenshots of it?
Get rid of the walled gardenIt's not too much, but there is a little issue that I have to iron out.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt won't be much longer for the current round of updates. We are very eager to push everything to the dev. site, but want to wait until most of the bugs are worked out.
The larger, database overhaul, will take much longer - probably another six months or so.

Six months? Eeep. In that case, I'll have to plead for some stopgaps.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYeah, really. It would be nice if we had a rough idea of what bugfixes and such were coming with this latest update patch. (In particular, if the Youtube embed fix is getting kicked down the road by six months, I get the feeling that's going to piss a lot of people off.)
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)The forthcoming update is a "look and feel" redesign of the main wiki, intended to modernize the code base and create a platform on which future upgrades will be built. There's lots of cool stuff in it, but the core structures of the wiki aren't changing.
We are working on a design principles document for the larger database overhaul that is, for the time being, private among the staff. It will be necessary, first and foremost, to study the feasibility of the ideas to determine what can and can't be done. There's no point in getting everyone excited over stuff that won't happen; neither is there a point in turning over the design principles of the wiki to community voting.
We'll reach a point where feedback is necessary to make sure that the organizational concepts, the look and feel, and the usability of the system are sound, and that's when the community will get involved. Believe us, we don't want to push something on you that you'll reject out of hand. The focus is foremost on delivering a great user experience consistent with the ideas that the wiki is built around.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Which didn't actually answer my question, so I'll repeat. What bugfixes are planned to be included as part of this specific update?
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Most bugs will be fixed in this round of updates - including the Youtube embed code.
...Wow, so it'll be over a year from the Kickstarter to the database overhaul coming into effect.
That'll be fixed as well.
The editing issue notification sender tool thing is broken in Night Vision mode. Not code-wise, it's just impossible to read (extremely light gray on white).

Or the untyped pages and pagetype change lists. BTW, some of the "stopgaps" I mentioned before apply in these places.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell, this sounds good.
Get rid of the walled gardenYouTube embeds are back, it seems. Thank you.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Do you really need so many ads? I'm saying this because sometimes it all slows down, and there's also that annoying ad for that new show that I'm certain I would hate if I ever end up watching it...
I think the "Read More" button that appears when the site is used on an iPhone should be removed. The pages I go to aren't that long, and the related pages option at the bottom is unnecessary as well.
Your receipt. You can keep the freakin' change.Say, is there anything to enhance the Private Messaging system, or even replace it with a superior successor?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Well, what do you propose to change?

The white bar on everyone's name on the forums makes it hard to focus when on the Night Mode. I use Night Mode to rest my eyes, but it hurts them instead. EDIT: Apparently, I can't hotlink images
