So..... Yeah.

I know it's almost pointless to mention it, since the leak has been out for over a month now. BUT considering there's still news articles published on the subject and it's considerably one of the largest cyber leaks in history, AND how I know you guys love discussing movie topics and What ifs, I'm surprised I didn't see a thread for this.

So while it's still relevant, let's have a civil conversation on everything leaked by Sony Pictures. Please don't turn this into a North Korea hate thread or discussing politics involving The Interview. This is not the place- it's only to discuss what was leaked and the current status Sony is doing to cover it up.

I had no idea Amy Pascal was such an asshole but I imagine that's true for a lot of Hollywood.

Well CEOs are notoriously known for having large sticks up their butts

Also, from someone in the Bay Area, the prospect of an actually good Steve Jobs movie sounds promising.

I actually didn't pay much attention to what was revealed, aside from infos about the Spider-man question and the whole issue with the interview....honestly, unless the reveal isn't directly movie related, I don't care.

I always like hearing about the behind-the-scenes aspects of media production.

What was mentioned exactly about the Marvel Sony leak other than "we want spiderman and fire Garfield"?

@Mattonomy: Don't forget to add that this is not a complaint thread or Sony-bashing thread.

Yes yes, no needlessly bashing Sony. Even if they are idiots about the entire ordeal, they're still sad, sympathetic idiot victims.

Well, for starters the confirmation that they really had been in talks...which I never doubted, but there were a lot of nay-sayers which were all "Marvel can only loose in this, so why should they". Also that Marvel apparently wants a teenaged Spider-man as a soft reboot, while Sony was (at least originally) more interested in having their spider-man movies as indirect part of the universe. But apparently now they want to fire Garfield? Whatever. The reason why the talks fell through was the creative control either way.

As fascinating as the Spider-Man stuff was, what really got my attention were the emails about an animated Super Mario Bros movie.

Too bad it leaked before it was official (so I don't know if I should get excited or not yet), because I would absolutely love for it to happen.

I saw samples of Powerpoint slides full of mindless word association and no sense of graphic design. It was worth a laugh! grin

I've been trying to find out what exactly was leaked. How did everyone else see the files?

Aaron Sorkin wrote a piece chewing out the media for their handling of the hack.

Fanfiction I hate.

The most I really understand from the hack is just an invasion of the inner workings of a company, which should never be seen by the public in the first place. Imagine some jokes you tell your friends while drunk being broadcasted to the world, most of us would not fare well with that. A good amount of business operations happen over dinner, not just the board room. Kissing ass, making friends and earning respect can lead to the stuff we saw on that end.

Everything else is just a rumormill with a bit more validity.

Which I never got. If it's an issue of resenting Spider-Man's Wolverine Publicity Status, that's one thing, but the "Marvel has nothing to gain" argument was always stupid. Spider-Man is arguably the most popular Super Hero in the world. Even though Marvel is already making gangbusters, why would the turn down making even more money? tongue

[up]Personally I'd say that Superman or Batman are far more popular, but hey, to each their owntongue

[up]Batman and Superman edge him out in the U.S. but worldwide I believe Spider-Man has the top selling merchandise by a large margin.

Amy Pascal is leaving the position of studio head.

Not much of a surprise, embarrassing info leaks or not.

[up]Embrassing or not, the whole thing stopped being funny a long time ago. Though if Sony is cleaning house now, there might something good come out of the mess. They really needed a wake-up call.

In before yet another ultimately pointless wave of rumors about this meaning THIS TIME! Sony will give Spider-Man away to Marvel Studios.
