I am rather surprised that there hasn't been a thread about this manga yet.

It is basically a manga about an old man named Inuyashiki (as stated in the title), whom gets killed in a crashlanding by aliens. Whereas he gets turned into a machine. Or something like it.

I Think the artstyle will be immediately recognizable to anyone that has read Gantz. Yes, it is the same author/artist.

What are your thoughts on this one? I for one find it rather... interesting. Certainly not something you see everyday atleast. It has a... somber quality to it, despite the sci-fi. Maybe it is because we see the world through the Eyes of an old man (58!), but still.

I actually started reading this today. It's rather interesting and for the most part well written gantz...

I just feel like the pacing of the manga is rather odd, but aside from that I absolutely love how strange and by extension unique the characters are especially with

it's main character inuyashiki.

This actually reminds me a bit of Old Man's War, at least a part of it; With older people being more balanced, typically well hardened by their life experiences... Given a new genetically superior non human body. Nice read so far, but I'm really wondering how major conflicts are going to be handled, since the manga so far takes place in a relatively mundane atmosphere.

Some necromancy since there weren't more recent threads to bring up the fact this series has an anime now. Just finished the second episode where Shishigami murders a family and ends on his coming face to face with Inuyashiki for the first time.

Reposting from the Fall 2017 thread:

Episode 2… Yikes, One Piece fans are scary indeed. [lol] Between that and Superman being stuck in traffic jam, this episode takes black comedy to a whole new level. And the first episode already had a healthy dose of it ("How old are you?" "58." "You don't look it." "Thank you…")

And, err, is it me or Shishigami's voice actor is doing his best Mamoru Miyano impression? Seriously, he looks and sounds so much like a robotic Light it's scary…

Hiro Shishigami is one fucked up One Piece fan. Seriously, I can't wait for this punk to get his.

…That last scene was even more brutal than episode 2 without showing a single drop of blood. Meanwhile, Good Old Guy starts to get a grasp of his powers. Now what's the probability that Hiro doesn't kill Hanako in the near future…? =[

Still, I like the little bits of nuance outside of the hero/villain dichotomy. Hiro still seems to have something vaguely ressembling human emotions when it comes to Chokko…

[up] Basically, he doesn't give a shit about strangers. He'll be good to family and friends and his favorite mangaka but he'd be okay with murdering everybody else.

The most terrifying stories are the ones where your mind is free to fill in the blanks, so whew boy that last scene. Someone destroy this guy already. He's so wimpy he runs away the second he realizes he might actually have to own up to the shit he's done.

I will now call our dorky geezer Astro Gramps. The way he fumbled with his flight functions is too darn adorable. And that fight flail scene with the hoodlums!

He's a superhero. Inuyashiki is a bonafide superhero and he's incredibly endearing while he's at it. Right now he's my favorite protagonist of Fall 2017.

Shishigami is right about one thing - he was always a freak. The only thing that's changed is his ability to act on it with no consequences. Inuyashiki can't take him right now, but oh boy is their fight gonna be good.

[up] He does seem to have gotten a little more effective at fighting. Seems to have figured out his best bet is to just push through any blows and use his superior strength for simple pushes and punches rather than trying anything fancy.

Episode 4: Man, what Gramps did to those Yakuza was brutal. But cathartic. Random couple is safe and happy.

Episode 5: Gramps meets the Robo Teen's friend. Time for some training!

Also we get to see Asshole go about his day when he's not feeling like killing anyone. And just when he decides to stop being Asshole, karma knocks on the door.

Huh… That was pretty quick. I mean, in what, half an episode, the guy went to a birthday party, got confessed to by a girl, learned that his mom had cancer, healed her cancer, bought her a new home, went back to their old home, decided to stop killing and got arrested by the cops. Nothing really has the time to sink in, even though these are pretty crucial moments of character development… Still, it's almost weird to see Hiro emote. And I'm just realizing that he's literally called "Hero"…

Meanwhile, Inuyashiki is as adorkable as ever. [lol]

Episode 4 was a pretty good outing for Inuyashiki. Taking on the mob is classic superhero behavior.

Episode 5 did surprise me though. Too bad all this happened after Hiro's rampage.

Christ Inuyashiki and Shishigamai are powerful. Inuyashiki can survive in the vacuum of space, and Shishigami can kill people through computer and Iphone screens. Hiro took out all of 2chan in episode 6.

…Holly molly this episode was terrifying. I'm not sure how that works, but it does. Honestly, putting aside that the guy's a sociopathic serial killer, I think I'd want to go on a murderous rampage too… Too bad full CG animation looks really awful when it comes to showing facial expressions…

Meanwhile, Cool Old Guy is like "Huh? Crap, I'm into space." [lol]

Team Four Star's reviews of the series have gotten me watching it and I'm on episode 3 right now. Inuyashiki is such a good person, and Hiro is such a garbage cuntbag. I love it.

Anytime Hiro's talking, though, I can't help but think that his voice sounds a lot like a Japanese version of Zuko from Avatar, which makes me want Dante Basco playing him in the English dub.

Episode 7!

Hmm… Is it okay to start liking Shishigami? I'm not sure… I hope the author avoided the all too predictable "cops kill the repented killer's new family and make him snap again" route. But I'm afraid that's where we're heading. =[

Also, this author seems to be severely trainophobic.

Going from serial killer to unsung hero is really surreal to see, but it keeps things progressing. I'm gonna feel bad for that little family Hiro lives with next episode.

Looks like the animation of the SAT element's patch is not animated, unlike the manga which gives that GIGN resemblance.
