Did Mortal Kombat have a better release than this?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Nah, Street Fighter V runs fine which is way better than X at launch and isn't broken, the online issues also seem to be slowly fixed if some reports are anything to go by. The whole thing is a hyperbole used by (understandably) upset people.
With SFV you will wait, but with Mortal Kombat X you will outright skip it, especially after they flat out abandoned PC.

I gotta say, i'm honestly pretty disappointed by the launch. For a number of reasons. See, i actually liked the idea of Arcade Mode getting replaced by the Character Stories. After all, it's something that Blaz Blue and Guilty Gear have adopted, and it works out for them.
What I did not expect, was that not only do the fights average around three per story mode, but they're ridiculously easy. Full Meters from the start on every match, with piss easy A.I and no difficulty settings. I get wanting to see the content for all players, but give them the option for an easier or harder ride at least. And you'd think there would be some special conditions. Like F.A.N.G's Story Mode. You'd think that with you only fighting Bison twice, they'd have some modifier for the second, like his attack or defence is buffered, or he has a constant poison effect in the fight. Just something to add a little more to it! And having to wait until March to even BUY the costumes that are IN THE GAME, is completely asinine. I'm completely fine with having to grind money to unlock them, but not even letting me do that for a month is baffling.
Storywise... There's really not much. There's good moments scattered throughout, but it's pretty weak. And creates some awkward situations due to a lack of assets. For example, Chun-Li being in a policewoman outfit during the events of Alpha instead of her costume from that game, Vega not in his Alpha appearance, and Birdie not only being fat when he's supposed to be buff, but also wearing a completely different outfit. I understand why they did it due to a lack of assets and limitations on what they had (And Mortal Kombat X did the same thing...) but it's still iffy to see if you've followed the series.
Survival Mode... I liked the idea of it, but playing it... I honestly don't think Street Fighter V has the right kind of gameplay for a Survival Mode. It just came off as boring after a while. Again, going back to Guilty Gear and Blaz Blue, they had gameplay engines that made their Survival Modes (Or Abyss in Blaz Blue's case) way more entertaining. That's not to say they're better in general, just that I think survival mode is better suited to their engines.
Also, they made a mistake in giving out as much EXP as they do for beating Story and Survival. Everyone now has LV 100+ profiles, with characters that take thousands of online EXP just to level up, which really dampens the satisfaction. It's also harder to gauge online skill as a result, with only League Points mattering.
All of this wouldn't have been as bad, if it wasn't for the Sever issues at launch. Matches take a while to start up, and i've had at least two occasions where the connection dropped right before the end of the match. I recently lost to a Bison player in a very close match, and then the connection dropped right as he won. I feel bad for the guy. He beat me fair and square, and he lost the chance to get rewarded for it. One time, getting a fight request right as I won a Survival match crashed the game.
The biggest shame is, the gameplay itself is spectacular, and a joy to play. The characters are all wonderfully unique, beautifully animated, and well thought out. The heart of the game is great, and it's a shame that it's so lacking right now. But, I don't want to write off the game just yet. I know there is so much more content coming for it, and it's unfair to judge it definitively until September. I knew I was going to get a content thin game on launch, I just didn't think it would be THIS thin.
I do still have hope. Splatoon launched with more content (And stable Netcode somehow...), but lacking in alot of areas, and got a great boost of quality through regular updates. I just hope it's the same for Street Fighter V.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...No Arcade Mode actually makes sense at least. The game was never in arcades.
Kuma from Tekken showed up to ask where to sign up for a spot on the Year 2 cast.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...It did have the same scarf.
One Strip! One Strip!Story mode might as Well be called Teaser mode till the real thing drops laters
At least Mortal Kombat X had all its story mode at the start.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I hope in Smash Bros.' case you mean Smash Bros. 64, because that's the only game in that series with less characters than SFV has even with the 6 DLC characters, and even if you are, you'd still be comparing a PS4/PC game with an N64 game.
Anyway, I love that we can just earn in-game credit to buy DLC characters without needing actual money. I can pretend each next character is simply a time-unlocked secret character and i'm unlocking them by playing the game. Provided I don't simply buy the character<s>, of course.

The New Age of Awesome is here! Not even the sky is the limit!SEAN WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOU!!!
Yeah that don't even try to hide what Laura is suppose to appeal to.
The thing is: people just love huge casts of characters, even if the game is unbalanced as hell. Marvel vs. Capcom 2, with 56 characters, is more popular than Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which has 48 characters. I rest my case.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.That sounds like you're implying MVC3 itself isn't at least partially broken. And UMVC3 has 50 characters, not 48.
The New Age of Awesome is here! Not even the sky is the limit! It turns out I forgot the DLC. My mistake.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.I've figured it out... Necalli is SF's version of OGRE/TENSHIN from Tekken. Aztec, Feeds on powerful fighters... GREEN Alien Man!
Have the servers improved yet? Really wanna body some scrubs right now...
Maybe it is now. IIRC in the beginning the bulk of the Tekken characters in S Fx T were infamously outmatched in comparison with the exception of a few who didn't, until they went through several rigorous overhauls and patches in order to make them better in comparison as a whole.
In particular, there was a big patch well after the release that gave some characters new moves and gave several preexisting moves new characteristics.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Servers are up and working fantastic right now.
Ah good point. But, SFxT has been fixed, so the Tekken people aren't crap anymore, and I still think it's a bad example. as tier lists are always for the latest/final version.
CVS 2 is a better one where it's never fixed and the SNK people are generally not good forever. (IIRC CVS 1 had Benimaru and Nakoruru in the top tiers.)

My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!Awesome! Time to get League Points!
I still hold my theory that Capcom was behind making CVS 2's SNK characters weak. #Kappa
Awesome! Time to body/get bodied!
I still hold my theory that Capcom made the SNK characters intentionally weak in CVS 2. #Kappa
The Legion of jobbers!
Apparently Bison's Doll harem has been downsized
Wow, Juri looks so much different from Street Fighter IV especially in the you know where.
