None of these promotional videos are catching my intrenset..I rather gain knowledge towards who they are as individuals and how those traits relate with with the overall plot rather than knowledge on their superpowers and how crazy they are... yea I get it they aren't superheroes.

This new one is trying to be creative but it's not registrating anything in my head

That's usually why you see the movie. Promos only show you the surface level of characters usually.

[up]x4, they don't need to push Suicide Squad down your throat as hard as they did Bv S. Bv S was the flagship, so they needed as many people to be interested as possible. Sadly, that meant revealing most of the plot beats of the movie to curry interest. Suicide Squad's only giving the bare minimum info.

Here's two more posters.

So judging from that promo on the last page, they are keeping Enchantress's name as June Moon instead of Julie Moon. That's another good sign, you'd think some stuffed shirt would've said June Moon sounds too silly but since they're keeping it, it seems like the folks in charge know not to take all of this so seriously. I'm still seriously convinced this film is going to Win Back the Crowd for the DCEU.

[up][up] At least they're not calling her "The Switcheroo Witcheroo." Which they did call her, in her first appearances. I'm not kidding.

I remember reading that in the early 80's, law enforcement officials noticed that a lot of Cuban-American gangster types in Florida seemed to be deliberately aping Tony Montana from Scarface, dressing like him and mimicking his speech and so forth. One wonders, if Suicide Squad is successful, we'll get crooks who try to look and sound like the Joker.

[up] i think after the last time a guy decided to mimic the Joker no one wants to think about that.

Real talk, anyone else get the feeling that this will actually be at least marginally better received than BVS?

And on a related note, if the cast and crew are evidently having a blast doing a movie, does that imply the movie might turn out well?

I mean, I know how movies like Apocalypse Now had the cast and crew go through some massive shit, but it turned out to be great.

But then you read about concerning things like how everyone except Gal Gadot gave off the impression that they really didn't want to be around and felt like they were held at gunpoint during the production of BVS and look how mediocre it turned out.

Meanwhile, you read about the production for Suicide Squad and it looks like the polar opposite of BVS's production in that everyone seems to have a better time making the movie, like how Jared Leto has been very vocal about how much fun he's having as The Joker.

So, I ask again, if the cast and crew are evidently having a blast (or at least are in a stable work relationship with each other) when they're doing a movie, does that imply the movie in question might turn out well? Because it's looking to be the case for Suicide Squad...

No these two factors have no bearing on one another . You just pointed out an instance where the actors had a terrible time but delivered a stellar film. And what are you talking about with the Bv S cast ?

[up] I could've sworn I read about how the cast members in BVS who weren't Gal Gadot gave off an impression of not wanting to be around during the production of the movie somewhere...I think maybe in this very wiki or something.

[up] Oh yeah, 'Gave off the impression'. The vague opinions of a random internet user about the actors's enthusiasm levels are totally something we should be paying attention to.

I didn't get that impression myself. Amy Adams certainly looked like she wanted to be there (playing Lois Lane was apparently one of her big career goals) for example. I only noticed a bit of a change in attitude when it became increasingly clear that the film would be received badly. But even then, they all seemed to have had fun working together on it (that one Kimmel interview with all of them was great).

Jaws also had a famously difficult production (Spielberg nearly got fired from the movie multiple times, and nearly had a nervous breakdown from all the stress of making that film). Yet the movie turned out great of course.

I know Cavill has apparently wanted to play Superman since before Superman Returns was made..he tried out for the part for that film, and lost it to Brandon Routh; James Franco has written about how disappointed Cavil was about not getting to play Superman from when they were both in Tristram and Isolde. Affleck has said it's been a dream of his to play Batman (even going so far as to write his own Batman screenplay).

Yeah Cavill seems really into the character (and the BTS stuff on MOS shows that). It makes it all the more disappointing for me that he gets stuck playing THIS version of Superman. Also Amy Adams also tried out for Lois in Superman Returns if I remember correctly, but Kate Bosworth got it instead. Also she was in an episode of Smallville as a "freak of the week" as well.

I know a few years ago there was some criticism of how stolid the '14 BVS comic con appearance was, especially since the Marvel one could almost be described as an orgy. The main thing was that that Marvel has had several years to build the comradery between the cast and crew (and the audience) while the 2014 BVS panel actually happened in the midst of shooting the film, and so most everyone was tired and couldn't say much except how excited they were for the movie. The 2015 panel was better, although it sort of originated the "sad Ben" meme as that's when his divorce from Jennifer Garner started to go through and you could tell when he wasn't asked to talk his mind was elsewhere. But the Conan O'Brien appearance with the entire cast was hysterical.

The Suicide Squad cast had a much faster production period and was much more of an ensemble piece so they were able to evoke that sense of fun a lot faster.

Yeah, I honestly don't care how many people say "Superman and Lois are the weakest parts in this-and-that".

When I saw both MOS and BVS, I always got the feeling that they were trying their damndest with the material they've been given.

I mean, let's be honest. They're not bad, it's the script and directing that screwed up BVS, right?

Getting back to Suicide Squad, more early reactions are showing up on Twitter and Reddit.

These are more divisive than the last bunch, but there's some reactions regarding how Margot Robbie, Will Smith, and Jared Leto are pretty much some of the best parts.

But probably the one reaction that caught me was the one saying that this movie apparently "saves DCEU Batman. This Batman is BTAS personified."

Yeah. As in that BTAS.

Interesting choice of words there...

This post.

Suicide Squad will undoubtedly be received better. It's set to ask nothing of its audience or critics, and will just be a fun action romp set to pop music and wacky characters.
