The arrow version?. I'm liking Octavia Spencer's Wall a helluva lot right now.

You mean Viola Davis, not Octavia Spencer.

No. The movie universe is different from the tv universe.

Also, I like the trailer, and why does this movie have to be Guardians of the Galaxy? The humor in this is gonna be dark, really dark.

[up] Yes sorry Viola Davis. My brain farted for a minute.

But was that Clancy Brown? Because if the movie and film cannons are separate than it would be damn weird to have him play the same role he played on Flash.

I'm really liking Leto's Joker, actually. He's not Ledger's anarchist, which is good. He's more of a sadist here, and creepy as all hell.

I could see this Joker do something like The Killing Joke and I couldn't really say that about any of the other Jokers apart from DCAU/Arkham!Joker.

It looks like they're going for The Dark Knight levels of "realistic" violence and M.O. for Joker, though who knows when it comes to his motivations and goals.

I thought that the guy in the panda suit shooting up people, Harley making shotgun noises with her bat, and basically anything else she does in the trailer shows dark humor

I haven't read more than a handful of Suicide Squad comics, but none of them struck me as any particularly humor-inclined. I don't know why we should be expecting for this to have any more humor than what can be expected from Joker and Harley.

I mean, there was that pie-throwing prank war.

...which they have to include in the movie. They must.

I haven't read Suicide Squad, but the whole thing was pitched to me as "A bunch of villains are hired by the government and they have to go do spy stuff and it's crazy and fun." Also, that Jared Leto Joker picture seemed very tongue-in-cheek to me. Like they weren't taking themselves seriously at all.

Guess not.

It's not really a joking fun ride, but the Suicide Squad is above all, badass. I think what me and some other people expected was a trailer that displayed that those are the world's most hardened killers operating as a team and being let loose on some Asshole Victim.

So less a trailer with "X Gon' Give It To Ya" (The Deadpool trailer) and more a trailer with Motorhead's "Killers" on the background.

It's a teaser I don't think they'd put a action packed trailer out as the first trailer. I'm fully expecting the movie to be filled with Black Comedy but it's not going to be as exaggerated as say Got G all the humor is going to be based on what's actually going on in the film not because of funny sound track and the characters deliberately trying to be funny.

do we really need humor in a film about killers and sociopaths? Hell, how much humor is there in the average Suicide Squad comic?

[up][up][up][up]Maybe whoever pitched it to you did it wrong? I am not much familiar to the Suicide Squad myself, but it seems you were expecting something that was never to be. I for one, am not sure what the expect either (haven't even watched the trailer), but certainly "tone of Guardians of Galaxy" would be the last thing to come to mind.

From what I know of it, the comics Suicide Squad is pretty serious and most went for dark humor.

Even the animated movie only really got its laughs from either Harley or Capt. Boomerang and Killer Frost screwing around with each other.

[up]x2 I guess I'm not going to be seeing this movie, then.

Damn.

And before anyone tries to "convince me" I'm not knocking what the movie's doing. I'm just not interested anymore.

Suicide Squad was never a "super serious" book, though. It was more of a darkly comedic take.

If you can, I would recommend watching the Justice League Unlimited episode "Task Force X." It's a really good take on the Suicide Squad.

[up][up] I mean, I'll respect your decision. You've a right to it. But it's still really early to make any judgement calls like that. You can at least try to be a little more objective about the whole thing.

I mean, give DC credit here. They didn't wait several years like Marvel did to push their C-listers to the big screen. They're doing it on their third movie, and only two big-name characters that mainstream movie-goers will recognize are in it. Three if you want to count the Batman cameo.

They're taking a lot of risks here. It's only been a few years since the Dark Knight movies happened. Those are still fresh in everyone's mind and they have to redefine two of their flagship characters in Batman and Joker - and damn if they haven't completely redefined Joker already. Regardless of if it interests you are not, at least acknowledge that DC has serious balls in even making this movie to begin with.

Trailers should reflect the target audience and give an idea of the material, not artificially entice people to a movie with a completely different tone than expected. No matter what, I can't see why people would think this would be a Guardians of the Galaxy "Hooked on a Feeling" type movie in any form. The trailer is dark because the material is dark, believing it should be lighthearted just to appeal to your personal preference is not a fault of the movie.

To be fair I think I understand where you might think, from the casting photo, that this was going to be a "slap-happy action romp". It looked like the squad was going to be undermined by Harley's appearance, Will Smith is a "fun" actor, you wouldn't expect him to take up a completely serious role, he's going to inject some comedy into it.

That said, knowing what Suicide Squad is about, I think that was the utterly wrong impression to take. And in light of several comic book films of late being criticized for being "too dark" and not having "bright costumes", it irks me.

I think you're going to be surprised. The Suicide Squad shouldn't function as a unit, it doesn't in Assault on Arkham. This is a gang of well-known, adept criminals, and a psychotic cheerleader. In no way should this ever work. The concept itself is fun and absurd, yanking super-criminals out of jail and sending them on missions.

[up]I really don't see why not considering Harley an adept criminal and instead calling her a cheerleader is adequate. When it comes to causing Mayhem, I don't think she has to bow to anyone in the Squad, except maybe the Enchanteress.

In their mind, they were just thinking about putting together a fun reel to show fans at Comic Con and not something to be put under scrutiny for the whole world. But I think they're starting to realize that in this day and age Comic Con is not exactly private screenings, that it will get out on the internet somehow, so might as well release their version first instead of letting the world see a blurry camera phone bootlegged version.

I didn't say it was! I went out of my way to make sure it was clear that this is not what I'm doing. I just don't want to see the movie if it's going to be serious. That's it.

To be absolutely crystal clear: The person who pitched the movie to me, and the existance of that one Joker picture made me thing the movie was going to be humorous in tone, I'm not familiar with Suicide Squad and no one bothered to correct me when I mentioned this before, so I was still working on that assumption when I say that teaser.

I don't like "serious" superhero media, that's my personal preference. It in no way reflects on the actual quality of those movies, even if I am critical of them because of it. I'm sure the movie will still be good, I just don't want to see it.

There. Is that good enough?
