Totoro suggestions are much better. Though the 2nd shows more mouth, the 1st shows more Mei. I can't decide which I like better.

Both the OP's suggestions are good, but which of them is better? Hm...The second one shows the mouth more clearly, but the field of vision outside of it is more restricted and I don't particularly like how the girl seems to be looking straight into the mouth while smiling cheerfully. (She's at least not looking directly at the camera in the first image.)
