Because he's Jim Carrey, and he never stops acting as such. So, it's hard to take him seriously.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatThe books actually seem to be all over the place in technology levels. We have computers in one, but very Edwardian clothing choices and other such sensibilities and etc. Its incredibly Skitzo Tech.
I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing. And book 6 has brief mentions of the King of Arizona, and others mention the Duchess of Winnipeg. Not to mention the third book has a lake so big hurricanes can happen on it. So I'd say these books take place in some kind of alternate universe.
The best part of the movie, the commentary track:

I'm pretty sure I've seen the movie with that commentary track more times than I have without it.
Looking for some stories? Its' the best part of the movie. Especially the implications that Brad Silberling or one of his underlings tied Snicket up and forced him to record this commentary, and he's so desperate to escape or believe that nobody would actually make a movie about the Baudelaires that every time something vaguely happy is on screen, he thinks the movie's over and tries to make a break for it.

"His logic will destroy all mankind.....Behold....MONOKUMA!!!!!!!!!!!!"Maybe I'm remembering the movie differently, but I recall Violet solving majority predicaments the kids got into up until arrange marriage, where Klaus had to think on his own.
Nope. Klaus solves A LOT of problems in the film. Sometimes for no real reason. In the books, Violet climbed the tower to rescue Sunny and that was the dramatic climax. But, they give the scene to Klaus. Sure, I suppose the tensions are a bit different with the theater and audience right bellow (I don't believe that was the circumstances of the book) and do make things a bit more tightly written, but they did still give one of Violet's major scenes of bravery to Klaus for no real reason.
In fact, if I remember correctly, Klaus was a non-action good guy for a good portion of the series where he would provide information at a lot of points while Violet would problem solve. If Klaus climbing the tower had fed into a character arc for the movie; maybe one about Klaus not having the bravery to act or something or he relies on his sister too much, than giving him the tower scene makes more sense. But there isn't such an arc to his character and, in fact, his character in the film is more stupidly brave than his book counterpart, complete with mouthing off to Olf and getting slapped (I don't think that happens in the books at least).
Actually, that did happen in the books. Paraphrasing:
Olaf: "You've disappointed me. Go to your room."
Klaus: "You've only provided us with one bed!"
Olaf: *slap*
Oh God! Natural light! If I remember correctly, that was matter of fact (he DID only provide a single bed) statement rather than the agressive nature he had in the film.
I think the film tried to have Violet be brainy and 'The Chick' while Klaus was made more Brains and Brawn.
Well, I think he was angry in the original book, too.
I can't remember, I don't have the book with me now.
Oh God! Natural light!Neither do I. Its burried in some pile of books at home.
I'm looking forward to this. I've only read one of the books (I think it had an old amusement park or carnival or something) but I do enjoy the movie. I'm aware of the complaints, but the movie sits in an odd category where it's not a very good adaptation, but it's still a surprisingly good movie on its own merits. If you removed the books from the equation, the movie would be fine, unlike the later Harry Potter movies which don't make that much sense without knowledge of the books.
Not Three Laws compliant.Ah, the Carnivorous Carnival. That's the 9th book, out of 13.
2016 release date, and the poster looks great
Is there any word on HOW they're adapting it? Obviously they can't do a 'Book per Season' route as we'd be here for ages, but maybe a book per two episodes???
Maybe each season combines like, two books together or something like that?
Six seasons??? Probably too long. Book 11 suggests that the books have been less than a year and the actors will show their age by then.
Kinda want them to try and outham Jim Carrey.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!I'm pretty sure it's an animated series.

Apparently Netflix has come out and said it's fanmade, not theirs

I said "I must ask if he was a SS Officer" meaning "I must ask if he was Satan incarnate". I'm saying I don't understand people saying movie-Olaf is too light when he's one vicious son of a gun, just Laughably Evil.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."
