Normally I might refuse to open this thread because it doesn't introduce a topic defined in the OP (which is usually the case with very broad topics just as this thread's) but I suppose we can give this one a go. I predict that this thread will die out pretty soon if someone doesn't come up with a specific topic about Paraguay to discuss (such as politics or culture or the weather or whatever) but there's no harm in letting this thread happen and seeing whether it goes anywhere.

All right, I'll put a topic on the table. A dual question, actually. How has Cartes' presidency been until now? And what has happened with Lugo since he... well... since he's no longer a president (you'll notice the phrasing is meant to be as PC as possible)?

I dont want to talk about polictics or stuff like that. I love the land where I was born and wanted to share the love with more people.

Its a really beautiful place. Its not like Argentina or Brazil but its a beautiful land.

Oh and one of the animators in Frozen was born there. He's a national hero by now. He made Sebastian's Voodoo. He also worked on Wreck it Ralph.

Please dont discuss political stuff here. I dont want to censor anyone but I dont want this thread to get locked and I dont want to focus on Negativity.

If the Israel and Palestine thread continues besides all the negativity that was present there, this thread will never get locked.

Im not quite sure. I think its a bit of both actually.

From the perspective of an outsider looking in, the love for him in parts of Paraguay is pretty weird. He seems to have been astonishingly incompetent.

If you don't want politics here than you might want to ask the mods to rename the topic, something like "Non-political Paraguay topic". A lot of people use OTC as a place to discuss politics so you're going to get people coming here to talk about politics, and the mods tend to not approve of people declaring ownership of threads and saying what can cannot be discussed in them if they fit within the topic title.

And yeah, this thread isn't going to get locked for talking about politics, threads only get locked when they turn into ragefests of hate and flaming, and even then we normally just see a bunch of OTC bans get handed out.

I studied Solano Lopez and his history, and while I'm Brazilian, I can't really define him in any other way than a mad despot who drove his nation to ruin over Imperialistic notions while butchering innocents in his own lands for very little reason.

It'd take a lot of convincing to get me to agree that a thread about a country shouldn't include politics - especially in OTC.

I think the OP should have some faith in the thread - threads about contentious topics like Israel and Palestine, feminism, US politics, etc have all been sustained. I'd be very interested in hearing about Paraguayan politics.
