First, a foreword, while this RP does take what occurred during Yugioh East Academy RP into consideration, there will be relatively few callbacks to what occurred during that RP, and knowledge of it is strictly not required.

While you may bring back a character from that RP if you want, I won't make you. Feel free to make someone new.

Now, as for the decks, please refrain from using anything too extremely Meta, like, Plant Synchro that lets you get out Shooting Quasar on turn 1, or anything like that.

I will be relatively lenient with cards you're forbidden from using, and unlike other R Ps, keeping with the anime that introduced Pendulums, you can use Fusion, Ritual, XYZ and Synchro in any combination you desire. While I would like decks that incorporate two or more of the types of summoning, it is not an absolute.

Now, on to the plot—-

We start in a city basically built on the sea, called Astray, wherein Action Duels are taking root as a popular source of "extreme entertainment". The duels are very real, as is the danger, and by now it appears what started as simple holograms are now very capable of causing injury even without a Shadow Game.

Our characters start as citizens of Astray, who made the choice to move to the new, large city, and are getting involved in its thriving tournament scene. You may well be a student at the Astray Duel Academy, or just a citizen who wants to climb to the top.

However, it is made very clear that there is a dark side to Astray City, a Dark Secret related to how exactly the Action Duels are capable of causing such real injury. The current authority of Astray, the Committee, is extremely tight-lipped about it, and most of them are barely seen in public as it is.

Now, as for the character sheet...

Interesting. I'll post my character sheet after I get home from school (which'll be in around 8 hours, unfortunately).

EDIT: Sorry this is late. Will finish ASAP.

Name: Real name is Louise de la Valliere, but she goes by "Kumo".

Gender: Female.

Age: Also unknown, estimated to be late teens-early 20s.

Appearance: Kumo is a small, thin waif of a girl (4' 11" and around 100 pounds), always dressed in a hoodie and jeans, both dark gray with a lighter gray spiderweb pattern. What really makes her stand out, though, is the pink hair that spills from inside her hoodie on either side of her face.

Personality: Mysterious and aloof, Kumo prefers to keep to herself. In addition, she's essentially the poster child for The Stoic. There are, however, rumors floating around Astray that she has a legendary temper.

Reason for being in Astray: Nobody knows except Kumo herself, and she sure as hell isn't talking. What actually happened, however, is this: Kumo, or rather, Louise, was born into an extremely wealthy Luxembourgish family, but fled to Astray when her parents became too overbearing. She took her name from her deck, and more specifically, her favorite card, Spider's Lair. She bought her current clothes with the little money that she had been able to take with her, pawning off her fancier clothing for more money.

Bio: Kumo never stays in one place (usually sleeping in abandoned buildings or alleys and the like), doesn't make friends (out of necessity), and tries to be as stealthy as possible. Since she's a black belt in several martial arts, and has practice besides, since she's been in Astray for a few years, she's pretty good at it.

Duel Spirit: Warm Worm. About twice the size of your average caterpillar, Warm Worm manifested when Kumo arrived in Astray. It prefers to stay curled up on Kumo shoulder, or in the pocket of her hoodie.

Deck: Insect Mill

Note: Further from here, even though there may be some oblique references to East Academy, and even some earlier material, fundamentally, Swing of the Pendulum will be its own thing. There won't be many if any direct callbacks to East Academy.

While character importation is still possible, I want to unlimit anyone from feeling like they have to adhere to a meta-plot.

My apologies for the absence, I was busy during the Holidays and build up for it, combined with something of a "car crisis".

  • Name: Andrew De'Witt
  • Gender: male(?)
  • Age: 21
  • Appearance: Looking rather effeminately handsome, Andrew has quite a striking look, together with close cut blond hair and grey / blue eyes. While he's definitely good at running around due to all the action duels, otherwise, he's a rather skinny young man with a slight frame, resulting in him having to take extra care not to get attacked too often. He wears a white long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and boots. Apparently, his chest has a large number of scars on the pectoral area.
  • Personality: Andrew De'Witt has a very personal stake in the events in Astray, as he remembers that his father participated in an Action Duel there, against an opponent he does not remember - who he wants to find. During that duel, his father fell from a high ledge due to a malicious monster attack resembling a bright blue flame, and then someone named "Graeme" carrying his father out of the inferno. Or at least, the body. Ever since then, Andrew has been pursuing this man for what he suspects is the deliberate end of his father's life. He seems incredibly temperamental and stubborn in this aspect, and unwilling to compromise about it. Though some times he seems to go from brooding to happy and adventurous - and its actually pretty obvious he has some elements of bipolar disorder. His personality is reflected in his deck - he desperately wants something of his father to remain, desires friends, and is incredibly loyal to the friends he does have, though when his goals conflict, its obvious he can get...antsy, if that's a good word.
  • Reason for being in Astray: Revenge.
  • Bio: His family moved to Astray at the behest of a family friend named "Kinrab", and apparently when he was young, Andrew had a rocky relationship with his mother, and absolutely adored his father. The family was rather poor, and as a result "I had to run a lot of errands to get bread on the table". His father tried to make it big as an Action Duelist, but paydays for that were few and far between for someone like him, who ran a combo deck based on something that was situational at the very best, but did so because young Andrew liked seeing it happen so much. Ever since his father's death, he became on and off bitter and moody. He began to suspect that there were dark secrets in this city, and that nobody was telling him the whole truth. He now runs the conspiracy theory website "Astray-Truth.com", with some very interesting ideas about who really runs Astray. He became an Action Duel participant to both put food on the table and to get closer to the powers that be in the city, given the celebrity of those people. Despite his dislike of the city's services, he apparently made use of a very, very personal one and "I buckled. I asked Doctor Miuth for help. I just couldn't leave myself that way..."
  • Duel Spirit: Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle, who acts like his cat. Carbuncle also acts as his "empathy animal", calming him and being there for him.

I'll bite.

  • Name: Syre (Pronounced "Seer") Dyem (Pronounced "Gem")

  • Gender: Female

  • Age: 17

  • Appearance: 1m57, Shoulder length red hair, Brown eyes, Freckles, Always wears a dark blue cloth jacket with a hood which she usually pulls over her head, Regular t-shirt which varies in color, Flat chested, Skinny jeans, shoe types vary but are usually either dark grey or brown.

  • Personality: Reserved and quick to anger, usually does not speak unless spoken to, usually alone due to being new to her school and not having a lot of friends.

  • Reason for being in Astray: Swapped schools after having a meltdown with her parents, who forced her to go there.

  • Bio: Syre was one of the better duelists when she was younger, around grade school, having a simple starter deck where she managed to get some lucky cards in. She wasn't too skilled though, being fairly young and all, so when she entered middle school her inexperience with better duelists caused her to lose a fair amount, pulling her winrate into negatives. She aspired to at least get a decent bit better, but she isn't on the best of terms with her parents. Almost all booster packs she got were earned by herself. Syre also wasn't the best in school, averaging grades from 5's to 7's. (I'm not too familiar with American scoring systems, sorry about that.) This caused many arguments until her parents finally decided to move her to a different school for her final 2 years, where she also resided at because her parents didn't have the time and money to keep travelling between two cities, especially with Astray being on the sea. Her cyber dragon deck was constructed over various years, and although imperfect, Syre's proud of what she achieved on her own. Zwei and Drei started appearing around her when she first arrived at the new academy, and although it freaked her out at first, she finds comfort now in knowing there's 2 friends she can't possibly lose.

  • Duel Spirit(s): Cyber Dragon Zwei & Drei

  • Deck: Cyber dragon (Note: I constructed this one under the assumption that some cards are "Rare" and that it's pretty hard to get the exact cards you want. So i know there's little reason not to run multiple copies of cyber end and such, but, well, rare and hard to get. Makes the deck a bit more "Real".)

  • Monsters: 15

[up] Thanks for that. So, there will be a mystery arc in this much like in Yugioh Arc-V. First and foremost is the mystery of Astray - it is a really weirdly designed city, and some people have notices it seems to slightly turn during the night. It looks like a disc when viewed from outer space.

I am definitely looking forward to roleplaying with you.

Well, as long as the deck doesn't copy a winning deck from a tournament.

Make whatever you're comfortable with, and then I'll take a look.

Its like Arc-V - essentially, the previously duelist exclusive cards are just really rare. You can use 1 of the Signer Dragons, but its rarity is remarked on.

Also XYZ is welcome, but most XYZ users are members of the Duelist Logia group, basically the elite of the elite from several schools. You might have some really interesting plot opening opportunities, if you're an XYZ user who doesn't hail from Duelist Logia.

World-building: Duelist Logia

  • Composed of the most elite from a large number of Dueling Schools, including Knight Academy, Secret Seeker Academy, Dueling Martial Art Academy, and others. They represent a lot of the "Extra Deck Summoning Types", and its more of a surprise when someone comes up who hasn't been recruited by them. They are a very varied bunch, to the extent some think there might be "separate groups within them". There is also a persistent negative rumour brought on by a certain conspiracy theory website that the Duelist Logia must be initiated by a shadowy ceremony that entails swearing an oath. This has been repeatedly denied, and the conspiracy theory website took a lot of heat for what was seen as an unfair smearing of DL's "honour".

  • There are also some rumours that a certain segment of them are used as Eliminators in some tournaments. This too has been denied.

Is anyone actually using Pendulum Summoning here?

Cause, if no one is, i'd be willing to try it out.

I don't think anyone here, thus far, has made a Pendulum Deck.

Go ahead if you want, Lucky.
