Glasslip was super dull. I couldn't get through the first episode. I'm really glad they seem to have a genuine hit worthy of the label with Shirobako.
It's been fun.For one thing, tropers, I think we should crosswick this series a bit more. Currently the wick count is 36, which in my opinion is a bit under-wicked for an anime of the length.
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaIt's PA Works best selling series after Angel Beats — I was actually shocked to see how little Nagi no Asukara sold in comparison, to be fair.
All the volumes ranked on pre-order after episode 24 as well, and they have been consistently short-stocked, which means that the sales are going to be well above 12k to 13k average, at this point.
To compare averages: Glasslip did not reach 0.5k; Nagi Asu sold below 5k; Hanasaku Iroha sold around 8k; and, finally, Angel Beats sold 34k.
Hanasaku Iroha was fun, until they brought Kou back into it. *grumble* I actually spent a year studying abroad at the university in Kanazawa that the high school for Angel Beats! was based off of, and we went to see the onsen the modern rival one from Hanasaku Iroha was modeled after.
It's been fun.
So those are the sales numbers? Glasslip was definitely a disappointing muddle that didn't feel like it went anywhere, but Nagi no Asukara was one of my favourite shows from its season. It's a shame it didn't do better.
lol, Glasslip
God, I love this show. I sure do hope that future seasons will be a reality.
Man, I hope Spring 2015 will bring out hits like this. I think I've been spoiled for having a good anime to follow for the last two seasons.
What makes Shirobako enjoyable for everyone? Knowing reactions to individual scenes is fine and all, but there might've been things about the entire show that made it stand out! For me, I agree with this blog's author, who argues that watching Aoi, Ema, Midori, Misa and Shizuka work towards a goal is something most everyone can relate to...but what does everyone else think?

The only resource you need for tropesInteresting people doing interesting things in interesting ways.
Granted that is quite possibly the most utterly generic answer possible, but it's the truth. I found most of the characters relatable (or at least sympathetically understandable) and as a fan of the medium how it's made is an inherently interesting topic. The rest is presentation and that's harder to pin down, but I can definitely say that it succeeded.
The appeal is simple: I care about these people.
Even putting aside the fact I liked Barakamon aside, that was a touching lil' thing.
"And you must be Jonathan Joestar!" - SueWelp, someone had to do it — the animated◊ personas, and◊ the REAL industry◊ people behind them◊.
Pretty darned accurate, actually.
Also, official Daki, for◊ Aoi◊ and Yano◊ so far.

"And you must be Jonathan Joestar!" - SueI don't generally like daki designs, but all of these so far have been pretty good.
It's been fun.Not a fan of dakis where the character looks terrified. Feels gross.
Aaaaaaaand Ema got herself an official daki as well, and it looks like the most risque◊ by far◊. Damnit PA Works.
Some funny stuff though in the comments that came off in reply to the tweets from the Official PA Works store, like "Well, Ema needs to eat too."
To add to the hilarity, Kimura Juri tweeted that people who're actually BUYING the daki have to cover up Ema ASAP else she'd get a cold, ahaha.

Aww hell, their appreciation for her knows no bounds. Has anyone delivered FOOD to them just so she can eat??
As per @Yuyucow, Shirobako's week 1 sales per BR volume:
- vol1 - 5.7k
- vol2 - 8k
- vol3 - 10.8k
- vol4 - 11.2k
- vol5 - 13k
I laughed at the Girls und Panzer comparison. That's not quite right. Girls und Panzer was a juggernaught that sold 30k+ units per volume.
However, for something from PA Works, those numbers are incredible so far.
Goodbye, my hopes and dreams.
This confirmation hurts so much...
"And you must be Jonathan Joestar!" - Sue
...Maybe? It could be that, or she was doing a "see you later/wish you well" hand wave. Either way's fine with me.
Speaking of the delivery mission, it reminded me of a certain Paranoia Agent episode, in which things...didn't go so well, to put it lightly...
Okitsu's got some mad driving skillz. She's a Master of Faster!
There were many staff parties, but this one was especially sweet. The atmosphere, the interactions, and Aoi's speech... Maybe it's because it's the final episode?
Hey, it's those three clowns. Bet I know what they're arguing about.
Knew you'd make it, Mr. Nogame.
Liked Okitsu's dress.
Hold the phone! Kunogi...can see Aoi's imaginary friends!?
Funny story, Chazawa's a cameraman.
And so...Don-don Donuts, continue going nuts!
Yes, Shirobako deserves a standing ovation. After Glasslip, I worried if this show was going to be just as painfully...bland. It wasn't. Thank goodness it wasn't!
