Favorite Era of Godzilla?

So I grew up with old VH Ses from my friends of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla and some others. I also remember Sci-Fi once had a marathon that was nothing but Showa Godzilla.

Of course, at the time, I had no idea it was Showa Godzilla. It was just Godzilla to me. It would be many years before I learned about the different Toho Godzilla Continuities. It does explain why I didn't much take to some of the other Godzilla movies I tried to rent. They felt too...different from what I had grown up with. They weren't "my" Godzilla so i didn't like them.

But I'm older now and a bit wiser. I still hav ea great nostalgic love for Classic Godzilla. But it does seem to me a lot of people don't much care for the era, or consider it So Bad, It's Good.

This is all just my vague general assumption though. So to clarify and learn more I made this topic. I want to start expanding my Godzilla horizons, starting with a thorough re-watch of Showa Godzilla now I'm older and all that. Then I'll move onto Hieisei which I get the feeling is a lot of people's favorites. And then there's the...Millennium Era I believe?

But which do people here prefer and why?

Hieisei is my personal favorite era. There's just too many good movies from that era to choose from.

With me, it's kinda like the Rocky movies, do I currently prefer the movies that are actually good movies, (i.e. mostly the first one and the one that came out this summer), or do I want one that's more fun to watch, like say, Godzilla vs Hedorah, which is balls-out nuts, or Final Wars, which is a fun brainless popcorn action movie but a pretty piss-poor anniversary showing for Godzilla.

Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the Great

I like films from all the eras. Namely the ones where Godzilla and the other monsters are more forces of Nature. It depends on the film mostly. I do not like any of the movies with minilla, Godzilla junior, or Mothra. Some of the other films are just too stupid for words like Godzilla final wars.

I liked Godzilla from both 1998 and 2014 as well.

What we call GINO, from 1998, was my fave Godzilla. Reason wasn't so much the big scaly monster, but instead was Jean Reno. I adore that guy's work.

Explain?

Late Showa and Early-then-Late Heisei for me. I got my Kaiju dubbed cheese with my great monster fights and better (but still cornball) plots. Godzilla as a reluctant hero works well with the customary "ornery asshole" take on him.

Come to think of it, the big guy's kinda like The Incredible Hulk in Heisei, incredibly destructive and gloriously savage when angry.

I guess Showa would be my favorite since I grew up watching that era, but really, I think that overall I like Heisei the most, if only because I just like that era's style of special effects and costumes.
