It was decent. Kinda worried that it'll become an edgefest. Would be nice to hear from someone that's seen the live-action series
CGI blending was pretty bad

Nah, i don't think so.
It's rather fluid compared to the usual anime CGI, at least.
Watch SymphogearIt's fluid, but it's also pretty obviously CGI
That isn't a bad thing to me.
Compared to other anime with CGI its light years ahead in terms of the Cg quality, at least.
Watch SymphogearAwww, I loved the fights in the "hunting the witches" segment, but then the actual fight sequences turned out to be way over-exaggerated and silly.
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntNot sure I will, it wasn't that interesting in the first place, and the sharp fights in the beginning was whta kept my interest.
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntWhat sharp fights?
It was just witches getting slaughtered with barely any fighting back.
Plus, it has many of the people that made Karas, so over the top fighting is to be expected.

Watch SymphogearWhile I like this anime, I find that the general edgefest going on is bizarre given the over-the-top battles and the general basedness of Leon's dad.
Edge-fest means?
Torture, rape, violence, sex and such in rapid succession. The first seven or so minutes are aptly described as such.
The defining characteristic of the GARO franchise is that it is a Tokusatsu for mature audiences, almost if not all of the Live Action series in the 'verse feature rape, sex, violence, torture and gruesome death in some ways or another.

But I like because it's an edgefest. It's so goddamn metal.
Episode 2 is out for anyone who wants to find it.
Watch SymphogearThat was much better. Less ridiculous CG, fewer questionable storytelling choices, and the addition of a good new character
EP 2 stream-of-consciousness:
Garo continues to be an edgefest, and so EP 2 starts with hardcore torture. It's so fucking metal.
Herman is still an amazing character. Just about everything he does is filled with so much joy. His response to the light lady's question was just so based. He's so going to die. I mean, likeable and charming mentor figure? So dead.
I didn't notice it before, but the OP is fucking amazing.
Emma is also a nice character and I think she's a welcome addition to the cast.
Also, Leon should totally follow his father's advice and get some. Maybe he'll turn into an interesting character.
Now, Leon isn't completely terrible. His reaction to said advice was funny. Generally, his reactions to his father's antics are kinda funny, but I guess it has to do more with Herman being an amazing character. I also find his fixation on his mother to be a bit disturbing. When he asked "how could Mother fall in love with this man?" I just thought "this kid is like Freud's wet dream". He also just spends his time brooding and being dull and uninteresting while other, more interesting and colorful characters are being interesting and colorful. Like Emma.
TL;DR Leon sux lol
That Horror priest is creepy as fuck.
That fight scene is amazing. Too bad Leon fucks up so Herman and Emma can cement themselves as being more interesting than Leon.
Also: More Alfonso! I just can't get over how everyone just says "Ah-ROO-fawn-so". Just say your goddamn Ls, you twats. Anyway, now he'll finally integrate to the main plot!
And off to EP 3 we go. Woo hoo!
This episode was also awesome, better than the first. I agree that Leon right now is way less interesting than literally anyone else in the cast.
I'm Excited to see Alfonso get his armor.
One thing I like about the CG.
It actually feels modern. It's not bad PS 2 era CG that even most modern anime seem to still be plagued by.
The details on the Garo armor when it goes berserk, especially the molten lava like cracks in the armor and the resulting flame effects look badass.
And the fluidity of the facial expressions is very cool too, and it's roar sends shivers down my spine
Watch Symphogearnothing wrong with an edgefest as long as it's not stupid or poorly executed.
given the general premise of this show (DARK AND EDGY tokusatsu), i'm interested in it already. will update with impressions
edit:
why hello there. guess i'll be grabbing this ost when it comes out.
also
this sums up my general opinion on the first episode. the first minutes were really grim and serious, and then suddenly we get Hernan being hilarious with a prostitute. it's jarring to say the least.

Still not fond of the fights, but dad kind of is amusing.
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy Enti wouldn't have a problem with the fights if the rest of the show wasn't so edgy and grimdark. it feels pretty out of place.
As stated before the franchise has always been about being darker then the usual tokusatsu.
It's also the only one aimed directly at adults only.
The anime following the trend is to be expected.
Watch SymphogearIt's also by the same writer.
i was aware of garo's reputation before i watched it; that was actually my primary reason for being interested, since i tend to like edgy things if they are executed well. i just feel that the tone of the first episode was a bit weird; it was a serious Mood Whiplash going from implied rape and brutal execution to hernán trying to bang a hooker without paying. the former is unusually grim for most anime, the latter feels a bit too comedic in comparison.
i'll still be watching and following it, however since i did overall like it.

wasn't sure if there's was a thread already, but here's one.
With the first episode subbed, I say, that MAPPA is becoming one of my new favorite Japanese animation studios, particularly with how good the their CGI blending is.
The show itself isn't bad either, and I like the dad. Pls, the chibi dad and son at the end were cute, too.
