New rule for Image Picking threads?

I find it pretty confusing at times to know what the original image of concern was, especially the older the threads become. Can we not have a rule to perma-link the original image in the OP for later reference?

Well, that is what the page history is for. And when images are removed, they are usually put in the thread.

>>Well, that is what the page history is for. That's taking up unnecessary time. Linking to it in the OP would make it much easier.

>>And when images are removed, they are usually put in the thread. Rarely the case in my experience and it requires me to look for it rather than knowing to find it in the OP.

I think it is polite to post the current image (if there is one) in the OP, and would not mind if it was mandatory. Seems very hard to enforce, though. Easier to change people's habits by example. In favor of many customs and few rules.

It can be a rule that is easily self enforced. Namely someone puts up a thread without one the users remind the user to put it up kind of rule. Not a hardline rule but more like a suggestion that needs to get done.

Exactly, just reminding to add the link if it seems missing. [tup]

I see no reason why to have it specifically in the OP. It could just as well be posten by the second or third poster.

We don't need this rule and if someone thinks the image should be posted they can do it themself.

I haven't been in IP in a while, but I don't seem to recall this being a major problem. A lot of times Willbyr is the one who pulls the image and he's usually pretty good at putting it in the thread.

I try to make sure the old image is in the thread by the end if it hasn't been put in in the beginning. Of course I don't participate in all the image pickin discussions.

You put it in the Op to make it easier to find. Especially fi you get multiple pages. Finding the op is notably easier to start with and saves everyone else in the thread time and effort at an absolute bare cost of time and effort to the OP.

I can't see any reason not to post the previous image in the OP. It's just common courtesy and it makes it far easier to discuss. I would be okay with this being mandatory. IP threads are rather important discussions and should be as easy to work with as possible. I've seen quite a few that never showed the earlier image so participating is far more of a nuisance than an option. :/

It's a courtesy, but I haven't heard a good reason we should make it some sort of enforceable rule.

Like I said it doesn't have to be a hard line rule more a "you really should do this but is not required" part of creating an IP thread. The folks in IP can handle the rest by requesting or reminding the OP to include the original if it gets forgotten. Makes it easy to find what the op was talking about and what the thread was working with originally. It is both courteous and simply more organized and puts it in an up front in an easy to find place. I don't see a reason to not make it a common thing.
