The original isn't bad (I think if you're Genre Savvy enough, you can infer that they're heroes), but the suggestion is good too. I'd say it's a lateral change.

Basically just cut down to the part of her saying that nothing kills friends faster than "healthy competition". Clearly shows someone interfering in a friendship to make them fight one another.

The current picture isn't bad per se, but if you make abstraction of the fact they're very well-known characters, it's just two brawny guys fighting. We don't have any context of whether they're both heroes, why they're fighting, or if it's their first encounter, etc.
So, I'm suggesting a picture with a bigger lampshade hanging, namely panel 2 & 3 of this strip
from the League of Super Redundant Heroes.
