My main grief about it is that unless you do some guru manipulation on the theme settings and files, it's become even hardernote to see which window exactly has the focus.
Edit: Oh, and the Big Brother code that cannot be completely disabled unless you're on the "Enterprise" edition.

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Yeah 10 is a lifesaver if you were using 8 (which was so bad it made me miss Vista), but I can see why folks would rather not re learn things if they're used to 7.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranI'm still a bit leery about upgrading the laptop I use for Uni work because I'm still not convinced that it's not what buggered up the video drivers in my last one.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Oh yeah, even if it says it backs everything up I'd say keeping your own backups is essential. I find the OS to be a huge improvement over 8 on my laptop, but for some reason it's incompatible with the latest drivers for my USB ports. So, every time it updates it tries to auto-update the drivers for my US Bs and then they fail and it gets stuck in a loop of trying to reinstall the non-functional driver until I manually reinstall the older compatible version.
If you have an external hard drive with a Windows recovery as one part, Windows 10 will reformat the entire drive as a Windows recovery disc, erasing everything.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."So I installed Win 10 two days ago, had to wipe the drive and fresh install after having problems.
And tonight all my USB devices but my mouse just turned themselves off at once. Googled and turned off the option to have windows turn them off for power save, only for it to do it again.
Cant find any other answers online on how to fix this and cant really roll back to Win 7 anymore, sigh.
I wonder if you're having the same problem I did. Using the search bar open Device Manager, and under Universal Serial Bus Controllers see if you have any error messages. If so you can try updating the driver, and if that fails you'll have to hunt down an older one and manually install it (and keep a backup on hand in case it gets lost again with an update).
When it does it again I will try and look there for errors, I did check all the root hubs for updated drivers and got nothing.
As for finding older drivers I have no clue where I would look.
I tried unplugging some unnecessary stuff to see if I just had too much plugged in.
EDIT: Ok the error
Googling around I found this and that is my NIC... oh boy.
Lets see, it does seem like there are new drivers. /pray this works.
EDIT 2: so far so good.
EDIT 3: FFS it keeps happening again and again.
The thread said a workaround was to change it to g mode, how do I do that?

In the end, I got Windows 10 by getting a whole new laptop — I didn't upgradeon the old machine because I felt that the old laptop was approaching the end of its life and it wasn't worth it (it's 10 years old!).
I'm getting on quite well with Windows 10. No major issues.

Keep Rolling OnIt recently forced the upgrade on my computer. And while it promised that all my files and stuff would be exactly where I left them, my games seem to have disappeared. The desktop shortcut icons for Solitaire, Chess, Mahjong, etc. all look like blank pages, and when I click on them, nothing happens.
I tried looking for them using the search menu, and while it found the file folder "Microsoft Games," the file is empty. I tried searching for "Solitaire," and it gave me a list of sites to play online or download it.
What gives? Where's my effing solitaire and stuff?? Grrr...
This Space Intentionally Left Blank.Windows 10 has no Solitaire from the start and it removes the Microsoft games once you download W10. Of course you could still download Solitaire to the Microsoft games site for free; the caveat though is that it runs on ads.
After installing the latest update for Windows 10, i restarted my PC and got the message saying "AMD Quick Stream is missing some components".
So, should i keep AMD Quick Stream since it supposedly improves your internet speed?
Sounds like shovelware, personally I'd trash it.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Agreed. Your Internet speed is a function of your connection, full stop. Most "accelerators" work by crawling pages you are reading for links and then downloading the data from those URLs in the background.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"From what I'm reading, Quick Stream is merely a local QoS application. It allows you to limit or prioritise certain network traffic over others without needing to access your router's configuration page.
Which is probably not going to see much use unless you're the kind that actually does play multiplayer FPS games while downloading things.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotFearing forced Windows 10 upgrades, users are disabling critical updates instead. That can't be good. As for me, I always keep two Windows 10 upgrade updates hidden to stay on the safe side.
I have yet to see a QoS application that handles the problem of upstream traffic causing high latency on an asynchronous connection.
On topic, I wish people weren't so paranoid about Windows 10.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Is it still paranoia when it's technically bricked two machines for me?
"Yup. That tasted purple."In some cases, it's because people simply don't want to have to familiarize themselves with the layout of a new operating system, even if it works more or less the same as before. Elderly people in particular (like my mother) hate having anything change when the old version "worked perfectly well, dammit! Now I can't find anything!"
Then again, she can't find anything in the fridge or the cupboards, either. Especially when it's right there in front of her nose...
This Space Intentionally Left Blank.Well, in my cases, it's a combination of :
A) Windows 7 working perfectly well for me and still being compatible with absolutely everything I use, so I don't have an incentive to change,
B) Reports that Windows 10 collects a lot of data and sends it to Microsoft. It can be solved, but through manipulations that are tiring myself just by thinking about them and will confuse my less technophilic parents,
C) the most important, Microsoft implementing forced "upgrades" to Windows 10, and by hiding as much as possible the ability to cancel said "upgrades".
I'm sorry, but when a company tells me "you HAVE to take our product, even if you don't want to", my reaction is generally "fuck you and everything you stand for".
The problem is that no-one has the guts to turn this into a class action. Business customers are sticking with Windows 7 Enterprise, for good reasons.
I'm hearing reports that Windows 10 laptops eat mobile data like candy when you pair them with a mobile hotspot because Microsoft's snitching and "file sharing".
It took me three hours to finally beat Windows 10 into submission. First thing: DIE CORTANA. I hate the name (I loathe Halo and it's fanbase) and she's a snitch. Turning off most of the data collection is a snap, but there are something that your technophobic relatives won't understand.
Microsoft's Skydrive or whatever their cloud storage scheme is called, is a ripoff. With plunging prices on externals and Micro$oft's policies on content (they can and will delete stuff off your cloud), turning it off is easy getting the features to not show up is hard.
The fonts are a bit tiresome, I wear glasses and the first choice hurt. I want to punch the art student/CS major who thought that the new Windows fonts were acceptable...
All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be a case on The First 48I upgraded a month ago, and it seems like all of my files are still in place... but I've run into a repeat issue where my taskbar starts acting wonky and my start menu straight-up stops working. I have to go through this complex process to fix it and it's really annoying. What the hell.
"I've come to the conclusion that this is a very stupid idea."Usually just doing a reboot fixes that one for me.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Make sure you enable all Windows Updates. The taskbar problems are notorious and usually take a couple of patch cycles to clear out.
As for compatibility, Microsoft will discontinue support for Win7 eventually.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
It works great. Functionality-wise, Win 10 is a big step up from 8 and a decent upgrade from 7, and it's free, so that's hard to beat. My wife's laptop recently forced the upgrade, and she hasn't had any complaints once she figured out where everything had moved to.
