Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa (My Monster Secret)

Seems like serious Jitsu chapters has been following the "start funny, middle serious, end funny again" formula.

This one followed a "serious, then funny, then serious, then funny, then serious, then funny" pattern. >.>

…Still, I pity that poor journalist. The guy was a bit of a douche about it.

PS: Oh, by the way, it's chapter 182… The first part of the story was 91 chapters long… You know what that means.

(also, chapter 182 and our upcoming chapter 147 coming out the same week is a disturbing coincidence…)

Chap 147 out. Where Oka's a bit desperate, and banana peels pop up out of nowhere. It's also made quite clear that Oka has a pretty poor self-esteem, despite his Deadpan Snarker attitude… I kinda like how this arc breaks his character into pieces to better reconstruct it afterwards. Also the reveal that Sen's glasses are a God of Fortune is surprisingly casual, as if it wasn't a reveal at all. >.>

And, huh… the raw of chapter 183 is out too, somehow…? Youko's fed up with everyone's shit and reminds them that she's supposed to be a main character so they should stop leaving her out of the loop, already. And then she goes to confront Shirayuki directly after giving Asahi a headbutt, courtesy of Shirou. Finalfuckingly.

So what chance to we give Mei and Oka's relationship to be successful? I mean on one hand, he's basically using her as a rebound, but on the other hand if he's being honest with himself he's doing it purely to try to make her happy, which means that there is a little grain of possibility in there. And of course there are going to be tons of jokes when Asahi finds out about it.

Well, that's a bummer. Hopefully no more problem comes after this.

Reading the latest raw chapters, I noted that a few character traits that had more or less disappeared made a partial come back (notably Asahi's inability to lie or Mikan's evil reporter character).

Is there a trope for this phenomenon?

Character Check is the thing that pops to mind. It's not a perfect fit, but it contains the "long forgotten character aspect comes back suddenly" thing.

Me personally would call it Eye of the Hurricane if there is such a trope. Lose your trait for a minute then it comes back around.

New translated chapter. Man, Mei became awesome all in the space of a couple pages. Now I understand why she's a favorite and so loved. If Oka doesn't want her, then I'll take her.

Korean 184 is out… I don't quite get it but it seems Shirayuki's desperate attempts to be serious and threatening are all cut short by Youko's stomach growl. So Masuda apparently lampshaded his own Cerebus Syndrome to make fun of it (though the rest of the chapter is still pretty serious). That's… something.

184: No edginess allowed. Only bakas.

…So, Serious character > Straight Man > Idiot > Serious character. The rock-paper-scissors of bwakas. This is becoming pretty meta.

I quite liked the atmosphere in this chapter. Melancholic yet light-hearted and hopeful at the same time. The stomach growl conveniently serves to cover the line where Shirayuki says Akane is "nowhere in this world".

Heh, Mei completely owned this chapter. Good to see everybody's getting things out in the open rather than the usual "hey let's drag out the inevitable for 20 chapters".

Yeah, from the Shiho arc on a lot of characters' relationships start to evolve. It's kinda refreshing.

185 is out too. I don't get why the provider releases 2 chaps every 2 week lately, but whatever. Youko and Asahi have the best grades of the group. ò.Ô Youko has learned she might be pregnant, and she and Asahi raise tons of death flags, as they're the day before the end of the term. And we finally discover when Akane is hidden. There's a hidden maze under the school, no less. Oh, and Akari went back to work at the maid café it seems.

About Raws: Thankfully nothing bad happened. Although as you said, that chapter does trip shit loads of death flag. (that pregnant symptoms though, )

Well, she's Youko, of course her stomach would be the alarm bell.

Speaking of which, Koran 186 is out… It seems like this week, Masuda and his assistants made a bet about how many gorgeous pages and badass shots they could draw. They all won. So yeah, Aizawa's cooking literally saved the day. And wait a fucking minute, what is present!Aizawa doing here instead of the future one?!

When Jitsu wa ends, I have a feeling Masuda's next series will be a battle shonen. And I kinda want to see that. I feel like this guy could pull off any genre, anyway.

It ends in 188 huh.

So says a certain French news site, but I haven't found any other confirmation… I just can't see how Masuda could wrap up the story in only two more chapters, even if the next one is 24 pages long.

It might be a case of the series just getting cancelled and him having to just wrap up wherever he happens to be in the series. Wouldn't be the first time that happens. Which sucks, because if that's true this series definitely went before its time. Hopefully it's just a rumor.

I doubt it's getting axed. It's been rising ending flags for a while.

Yeah, an axe is unlikely. It seems the series' ranking dropped a bit since the semi-serious turn, but it's not quite that bad. And it's still a decent seller.

If those rumors are true it'll be a bit tough for me.

Lots of us have been following Jitsu Wa for two years fairly consistently. Boy, the last time a series left me devastated and empty after finishing it was Fullmetal Alchemist when it ended, and I hopped on that train real late. (Uh, in a good way. The most emotionally drained and disappointed I've ever been to an ending was Shinigami sama-to-4nin kanojo, but by all accounts, Jitsu Wa isn't rushing to an awful, barely-built, clear-"I'm getting cancelled pretty soon, so better wrap it up as fast as I can"-fuckslopjob, Still bittter)

...oh, even if it ends properly, saying goodbye to this world will be rough.

I've only been following it for a few months, but yeah, if it's really ending it'll be rough. It's definitely one of the best comedy manga I've read and even though I haven't been reading it long, it definitely made an impression.
