They are a brand of fruit-snacks, which were popular in the late '90s/early 2000s. They gush liquid, and they're known for their strange commercials. Here's a link.

Isn't this topic weird enough without including Homestuck? IIRC, Gushers in that are yet another part of the Trolls' bizarre and disgusting reproductive cycle.

No, not at all.

Gushers are actually a part of Betty Crocker's evil plot to enslave humanity and transform Earth into a world just like her own.

The only thing that's constantly mentioned about the trolls' reproductive cycle is the buckets.

No, she's a troll.

Still feels like Homestuck weirdness for weirdness' sake.

It was about Gushers and therefore relevant. It's what I think of when someone mentions Gushers since they come up a lot in the first part of Homestuck.

And no they have nothing to do with mating rituals. They were one of John's favorite foods and then he freaked out when he found out they were made by Betty Crocker.

Well, it's still not as weird as the actual commercials, either way, I must say.
