Weird question about Nightmare On Elm Street

I remember when I was a kid (circa 5th grade) and was talking to some other kid about Nightmare On Elm Street (I hadn't seen it at the time). I asked him why Freddy was all burned like that and the kid said it was because Freddy had been a wizard and people burned him at the stake. Now if you've seen the movies you know that's not true so why did the kid give me such strange false information? Cowboy BeBop at His Computer perhaps?

His parents probably told him that, don't really want to drop the "M" bomb on them at that age if you're a parent.

Its more likely that kid lied about seeing the movie in the first place. When caught up in it and being asked a specific question, he made something up.

Considering his age, a possibility is that he watched the movie but missed/forgot the parts where Freddy's backstory is explained and his young fertile mind simply made something up himself and accepted it as canon. Essentially a child's version of Fanon.

I did the same thing when I was young several times.

Interesting ideas. I remember a long time ago I asked this on some horror website and someone suggested he confused Freddy with that kid who becomes a wizard in part 3. That seems pretty unlikely though.

Off the top of my head I remember believing that Jason from Friday the 13th was Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre were the same guy using different identities (because apparently my young mind missed all the parts where the fact they're different people. Somehow).

Now to be fair, you can't expect a Brazilian child to be well-versed in American geography.

Well, I'm pretty sure even then it'd be obvious that Jersey and Texas have different geographies.

Due to the Hockeymask And Chainsaw trope, I can see how one would get Jason and Leatherface confused.

Friday the 13th has never really had a good grasp on location anyway. Part 6 was shot in Georgia for some reason and somehow Crystal Lake opened into the Atlantic ocean in part 8 somehow when the rest of the time its a closed lake. If I had to put it anywhere, I'd put it in upstate New York.

Before I saw it Friday The 13th I thought Jason used a chainsaw also. I also thought he didn't get unmasked till the final movie.
