I guess I would support redifining Unfrozen Cave Man Lawyer as a subcategory of fish out of water specific to people displaced in time, if that is a possibility (it would probably take a lot of work to re-write the description and cut all of the examples that don't fit the trope's new definition.)
If that is not feasible, then I'd agree that merging is the way to go.
As mentioned before, I'm in favor of merging and keeping the title "The Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer." "Like a Fish Takes to Water" implies that the character is being returned to a familiar setting, not being transplanted to a new and strange setting but taking to it better than they did to their familiar one.
Er, no, it doesn't. That's not how that idiom is used in English at all. Like a Fish Takes to Water is an idiom used to describe how well a person picks up a NEW skill. It's not a phrase we invented. It's part of the English language we are using exactly how English uses it.
The Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer on the other hand is made up gobbledygook for something that there's already a term for in English.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick^ I can honestly say that I've never heard that idiom outside of this site. I assumed it was a variation on "like a fish out of water," an idiom that means being placed in a strange or unfamiliar situation and not thriving.
Do you have some outside citation showing its general use outside this site? A quick Google search mostly turns up the idiom "like a duck takes to water," which would make more sense than "fish" in this case, considering that fish are born, live, and die in the water and never leave it during the ordinary course of events, whereas a duck is born on land and takes to the water later in life.
A merge and name change to "Like a Duck Takes to Water," with The Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer and Like a Fish Takes to Water both retained as redirects, may be a good compromise.

Whoops, you're right. I was mistaken. Sorry. The phase is Like a Duck Takes to Water and it would be the best choice for this trope.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickDo you guys think a crowner's necessarily to decide what ultimately happens with these two tropes?
Anyone contesting this post?
Merge and rename to Like a Duck Takes to Water?

Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project! All three of those tropes look like the same thing.
I noticed that the crowner I made is now attached.
Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project! The crowner's been running for 6 days, we've got a clear winner so should we close it and star this thread? (Or if it has to be attached for at least 3 days, close it on Monday since 3 days after the hook is a weekend).
Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!I don't think we've got enough votes to make a call on this even though the consensus is in favor of the action.
We definitely need more consensus.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Yeah, we don't tend to call without at least 15 votes.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickWe'll wait for 1 more vote since there's currently 14.

Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!Calling crowner in favour of merging Like a Fish Takes to Water and The Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer into Like a Duck Takes to Water and keeping both old names as redirects.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanPages merged, but examples need checking for duplicates and wicks need fixing to the new name.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I fixed all of the wicks from both of the redirects. So, I suppose we are done.
Macron's notesAre the discussion pages moved and the notification on the discussion page done?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWait, forgot about that, sorry. I'll do that now.

Macron's notesSeems like the note here is amiss or I am not searching right.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWill account for the change in the rename thread.
This will also need an entry in Renamed Tropes before we can close this.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportThat's done. Sorry for the inconvenience. I haven't done wiki work in a while,.

Crown Description:
What to do with The Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer.
I think we may be in more consensus to merge the true trope.
I wonder which of the two trope titles to keep, however.
