The ruins of civilization are now a hunting ground, a place of despair and hopelessness. What little resources are left are endlessly fought over. Peaceful villages are trampled and their inhabitants left feeding the soil they toiled with their own blood. People are sold and bartered like commodities. It is a land for those who have lost their ties to empathy, a land wrought with evil and unrighteousness.

The continent once known as North America would no longer be recognizable by those who once lived there. Ravaged by the nuclear war, it is now a featureless wasteland of dust and solitude.

Not all is lost, however. There are some who lead peaceful lives together, a reminder of what humanity once was. You are one of those people. Well, were one of those people. Your family, your home, or your village. Those closest to you. All taken away from you by the atrocities of the forces of a man called NERO who uses an ancient chinese assassination art called the Seisho’o Koutei Ken (西諸王皇帝拳, Western Feudal Kings Emperor Fist). This is all the information you have about this man, and it is all you need. You have seen his brutality, and decided it cannot be allowed to survive any longer.

Your mission is that of justice, but you will not carry it out alone. Others have suffered by his hand as well, and will join you in your travels. Be it fate or chance, but you have all met in a small quiet village within the outskirts of his territory. Decide destiny itself.

It’s a Hokuto no Ken / Fist of the North Star RP! I've been wanting one of these for a while, so I just went ahead and made one. Your main mission is your conflict with NERO, he’s the final boss. He'll have commanders and such that will serve as minor bosses, plus there'll be sidequests as you weaken his command over the surrounding area with your fists.

Since this takes place in former North America, specifically somewhere that used to be called California, we'll be a bit distant from the on-goings of the main Hokuto no Ken storyline. However, the styles present in the series will be referenced here. You can have your own Nanto style if you wish (there are said to be 108 sects of it), but you can also feel free to create your own fighting style. Just make it hype. It doesn't need to solely be about punching really fast. Weapons can be incorporated into your fighting style as well, or perhaps even be the focus of it.

I've never watched the show/mango but I really like punching stuff, is that okay?

Are we more realistic or animu here, though? The stuff I've read up on starts out looking like regular martial arts, but then it starts talking about punching tanks and doing kind attacks.

I'm thinking I'll make like, a super chubby Hawaiian-themed surfer. But should I lean towards real-seeming punches and kicks with a quirky theme, or should I go like, give his super powered kicks that let him surf the sands of the wastelands?

As an example, certain sects of Nanto can fire bursts of Ki that cut through flesh like it was nothing

Hokuto Shin Ken can blow you up from the inside.

It can be pretty crazy. Most of what you'll be killing are nameless goons, with the main antagonists having enough skill (or something like that) to avoid getting killed in a single blow.

So I suppose we'll be going Animu

Granted, not all of your attacks are going to be ones that kill people in one blow. You gotta make it flashy!

• Name: Keanu Mahelona
• Age: 29
• Gender: Male
• Appearance: He is a very tall and chubby man, easily weighing 600 pounds. Has darkly tanned skin and a shaved head, wears a Hawaiian shirt and board shorts, a lei around his head, and is almost always on a surfboard.
• Style: Kamehameha Kaua: It is a fighting style that focuses on survival based on ancient Hawaiian teachings, answering questions that no other styles dare ask. For example, how can one eat whatever food they manage to obtain if they are busy punching their opponent? The answer is you don't. You kick them. The style emphasizes powerful kicks instead of punches, and has a focus on water combat.
  • Mauna Loa Missile: A high-risk, high-reward, simple attack. It involves running at an opponent performing all manner of intimidating kicks in the air, possibly even punches, all while shouting. When ten meters from the target, he uses his powerful leg muscles to jump forwards, launching himself at his opponent in a body slam. If the slam is successful, he grabs his opponent and begins rolling with them, crushing them under his weight with every rotation.
  • Honua Wawahi Kick: He performs a flip - either forwards, backwards, or even to the side - and slams hit feet down not on his opponent, but in the earth. It shakes the nearby area enough to knock most people off balance.
  • Kowabunga Bonanza: An attack that utilizes his surfboard, Keanu spins on his head while slicing at opponents with his board.
  • Inverted Kowabunga Bonanza: One of the few non-leg techniques, it is similar to the Kowabunga Bonanza, but involves grabbing his surfboard with his hands and slapping it into someone's face.
  • Tsunami Burial: An ultimate technique, it must be used in large bodies of water for maximum effect. Kicking down so hard on his surfboard that it creates an enormous wave of water, it sweeps forward and slams into everything. On land, a much less powerful version is used, which lets him press down strongly enough with his legs that his surfboard can 'surf' over sand, dirt, or concrete, meaning he doesn't have to walk most of the time.
• Personality: Surf's up, dude. Keanu is quite Hawaiian, tending to be rather chill and calm in any situation. Any situation that doesn't involve someone stealing his food.
• Background: Keanu hails from the lands of Hawaii. He was the successor to the Kamehameha Kaua fighting style, training in defense of the Macadamia farms of his people. That is, until a powerful martial artist attacked with a platoon of men. They were defeated, but only after their farms were burned, and nearly everyone was killed. Before he died, the man said that someone named NERO would come in from the East and finish what he started. Raising his fists to the heavens, Keanu vowed revenge on he who would dare strike at their macadamias, and surfed away from his homeland towards the continent in the far east.

• Name: Goro Riyu
• Age: 29
• Gender: M
• Appearance: Goro wears the vestments of his order: a long white coat, covered in many pockets, along with equally clean black trousers with cloth sleeves over any shoes he chooses to wear. When situations are particularly dire he dons a pair of ceremonial Safety Goggles to engage in honorable combat with an equal foe. He's much shorter than most martial artists, topping in at 5'2", and possesses a lithe build meant more for precision than raw lifting power.
• Style: Conservation of Energy the art of controlling the world's natural need to keep energy in balance. Instead of generating energy from nowhere with Ki, Conservation of Energy fighters channel light amounts of Ki to guide and control the energy around them as a weapon, always in exact equilibrium.
  • Heat Passage no. 222a: Using his body as a channel for heat, Goro can extract the heat from one end of his body, such as a hand or a fist, to cause attacks that chill and freeze opponents before projecting the heat outward in melee strikes on another part of his body.
  • Heat Passage no. 222b: Goro can also use his Heat Passage in a much smaller, but ranged attack in order to fire beams of focused heat after again drawing in heat from the atmosphere around him.
  • Prototype Lightning Conduction no. 4: Goro can take the conductive properties applied in many other techniques and apply it to electricity in order to redirect electrical forces. However, this technique is extremely dangerous, and requires that he be ready for the electricity so as to redirect it away from anything fragile.
  • Ki Adapter Utility no. 2: Goro's Ki is particularly flexible, and with this ritual he can donate and receive Ki from other fighters, allowing him to replenish his own or another's energy when the situation is dire.
• Personality: Goro is consumed by a constant cognitive dissonance: his own insistence that he would never again run away, and intense fear. If possible he will attempt to put off a fight by examining and preparing; any attempts to point out that this is just masked cowardice are met with snappy rage. Beyond any other objective, though, is his desire to kill NERO and find anyone who would even dare sympathize with him.
• Background: Goro is all that's left of a religious sect known as Acland En Getic Arch, a group dedicated to solving the mysteries of a great database of knowledge that remained safe from the nuclear fires. Goro grew up in this lab-turned-monastery, and assisted the many monks there in their research into an approach to Ki that utilized the arcane rite of The Scientific Method to advance themselves in new innovations of martial arts. The style that attracted him the most, though, was a manipulation of one of their sacred laws: Conservation of Energy. Undergoing both martial training and chemical manipulation of his body's Ki, he learned the art of the Conservation of Energy, allowing him to take energy from one area and project it elsewhere. However, on the day he received full certification of the highest title at Acland En Getic Arch, a band of murderers lead by the vicious NERO razed the whole building, eliminating hundreds of years of knowledge in an instant. Goro only survived in disgrace: by hiding, and deciding to fight another day. He vowed then that he would not only defeat NERO, but that he would never again hide from any threat. He would perfect his martial arts, and he would destroy his rival.

• Name: Kokuto

• Age: 31

• Gender: Male

• Appearance: Kokuto stands at around 5'10" and is about as muscular as is normal among Nanto Seiken practitioners. He has short, messy blonde hair, and he has green eyes. He wears a black duster and a black fedora, as well as dark blue leather pants and shirt. He also wears black combat boots and gold colored gloves.

• Style: Nanto Koryu Ken: This sect of Nanto is centered around the belief that one strike is all one needs to end a battle. It has a heavy focus on techniques that end the battle in a single strike and parrying. Like most Nanto sects, it's used by refining ones ki and using it to create "blades" (usually through either air pressure or just extremely focused ki).
  • Nanto Hagane Sessaku Ken (Nanto Steel Cutting Fist): The user creates "blades" and throws them at their opponent. The strength of the "blade" does not diminish as it travels; however, despite being a ranged attack it is most effective at point blank range.
  • Nanto Soyokaze Ken (Nanto Gentle Breeze Fist): Not an actual attack, this technique allows the user to read the enemy's ki and more accurately predict where the opponent will strike next, as well as how they will do so. In addition, it allows the user to "flow" around an opponents attacks, making the user that much more effective at parrying.
  • Nanto Kitsutsuki no Kogeki (Nanto Woodpecker's Attack): One of the few multi-strike attacks in Kokuto's arsenal, the user performs a barrages of stabbing blows that ends in a thrust at the enemy's forehead or heart. It's designed to overwhelm the enemy's defense and turn them into swiss cheese.
  • Nanto Hissatsu Ken (Nanto Sure-Kill Fist): A technique that takes a page from Nanto Ho'oh Ken, abandoning defense for the sake of offense. It is a forward thrusting strike (can be either a slash or a stab) performed as fast as the user can go while dashing. It is an attack designed to strike before the opponent. It is also designed to be used in a Single-Stroke Battle, and thus, it's only fully effective in that kind of situation (that's not to say it's useless; it's just at its best in a Single-Stroke Battle).
  • Nanto Toryu (Nanto Heaven Sword): The ultimate technique of Nanto Koryu Ken, focuses as much of his ki as he can into his blades and performs a strike that (is supposed to) cut through any defense. While Kokuto can use it, he hasn't mastered it; the only person who ever did was the very first practitioner of Nanto Koryu Ken, who was said to be able to split even the Heavens themselves.

• Personality: Kokuto has a strict set of morals that he lives by, and they are the only thing keeping him from succumbing to his boundless rage. Kokuto cares deeply for most people (besides bandits/brigands, as they aren't people in his eyes), and he will try to help anyone in need of it. Honor and benevolence are very important virtues to Kokuto, and he tries to live by them as best he can. He suffers from no small amount of self-doubt, as his anger issues cause him to constantly question whether or not simply fighting for revenge destroys his integrity as a practitioner of Nanto Koryu Ken, no matter how deserved or natural such feelings are. NERO is one big Berserk Button for him, but he'll try to keep control of himself as best he can even when enraged. He considers those who abuse their power to be the lowest form of scum, and he won't hesitate to kill such people if he's given the chance.

• Background: If Kokuto had a life before his master found him, he was far too young to remember it. He grew up under the stern but benevolent tutorship of Master Kenshi. Because Kokuto was born under the Star of Destruction, Master Kenshi did his best to raise his student as a good and just person so that any destruction Kokuto was destined to do would be aimed at the right people for the right reasons. Kokuto idolized his master; if Kenshi said white was black, then it was black. However, as he grew and his training was nearing its end, Kokuto began to disagree on a single point; Kenshi believed that the Nanto styles were too powerful for them to interfere with the affairs of outsiders, while Kokuto believed that Nanto should be used to actively help people (even if only by killing anyone who preyed on them). They're disagreement became arguments, and it eventually reached the point that when Kokuto's training was finally complete, he was almost glad to leave his home.

For around a year, Kokuto wandered the wasteland of the outside world and aided whomever he happened to run across. Eventually, he settled down in New Coronado village as its protector, and the people there became his pseudo-family. He lived with them for some time, keeping his skills up by hunting down bandit troupes that strayed too close to the village for his liking. It was a simple life, but it was one he loved with all his heart.

So, naturally, Fate had some things to say about that. While Kokuto was on one of his bandit hunts, New Coronado was attacked by an army from the East. All of the men and children were slaughtered, and the women were taken for the soldiers amusement. Kokuto returned to a flaming ruin, a small squad of mooks left behind to make sure that the main unit hadn't missed anything during their pillage. Seeing his home burning and his family's corpses littering the ground, Kokuto flew into a berserker frenzy, slaughtering his way through the peons like they were chaff.

After his rampage came to a close, he stumbled away from the remains of his village, not getting very far before he broke down and sobbed. He cried for hours, his pain and despair too great to suppress. After he finally managed to collect himself, the anguish was replaced by a seething hatred for those that killed the villagers. He went back to the remnants of his destroyed home, buried every body he could find, and took the only clue he had as to the identity of his foe: a sign stitched into the sleeves of one of the soldiers.

That was five years ago. He has long since learned the name of his enemy: NERO, a brutal conqueror and practitioner of a style called Seisho'o Koutei Ken. He has since been doing whatever he can to interfere with NERO's operations, mostly by killing the dictators officers. Kokuto won't rest until he has NERO's head on a pike...and yet, he is still the moral man Master Kenshi raised him to be, and he can't help but think that he is sullying his fists for using them for such a purpose...

The technique names were shamelessly taken from google translator, so I'm sorry if there's some grammatical errors or something.

• Name: Isabella Arce
• Age: 18
• Gender: Female
• Appearance: Isabella is a young but well muscled and good-looking Hispanic woman, with shoulder-length dark hair. She tends to wear simple cargo pants and tank tops along with wrestling boots.
• Style: (Have to prefix this with an apology that I know no Spnish and the translations are all from google) Lucha libre vicioso del Diablo: What do you get when you combine an ancient assassination art with luche libre? An over-the-top wrestling style bolstered by ki pulses sent through the opponent's body and attacks on pressure points.
  • Llave de brazo reflejado: An arm lock which sends a ki pulse through the opponent to break their other arm while one is trapped.
  • Brazo-trueno: A clothesline that uses a ki burts when it hits to add extrapower during the hit
  • Arenas movedizas: Isabella sweeps the leg of the opponent before striking down on a pressure point in the opponent's leg,weakening their leg muscles
  • Caída del caballero: A finisher and ultimate move. The target is lifted high over head before being dropped back first onto Isabella's knee. A combonation of a pressure point and ki takes this move from "breaking the back at one point" to "breaking all vertebrae in the back"
• Personality: Isabella is generally cheerful and boisterous as well as loving a good fight. The obvious exception is when she encounters those in the employ of NERO to whom she is extremely violent (moreso than usual) with. She also tends to go through occasional bouts of sullenness and anger
• Background: Isabella is the latest in a long family of luchadors and luchadoras. At some point post-apocalypse a martial artist married into the family and the two styles merged. Isabella's childhood was a fairly happy one, learning her family's signature fighting style in a small peaceful village. As she grew however attacks from a group associated with a man named NERO increased. Her grandfather fought them off (her mother and father never showing much potential for the style) however eventually he grew too old and so a deal was struck: Two champions, winner takes the village. Unfortunately Isabella;s grandfather was hurt the day before the match and she had no choice but to take his place in the fight. Though she fought valiantly, Isabella lost and was unmasked. Her town fell under NERO's tyrannical rule and her family was banished. Now Isabella hunts for NERO to reclaim her honor and free her home.
