Hopefully they retained a thing or two about proper combat mechanics from their time with Dm C.

Umbran Climax◊Hopefully it will have a lock on button.
New gameplay:
Hmm, A resident evil 4 camera angle with a dark souls esque curse the character has to deal with wrapped in Norse Mythology. Cool.
Watch SymphogearWell, that was cheery.
Hellblade will be released for Play Station 4 in 2016 and tells the story of Celtic Warrior Senua and her journey into Hell. The Hell in question is no ordinary Hell, but is in fact a Hell that is the manifestation of Senua’s mental illness. Senua experiences psychosis, including hallucinations and delusions, as well as suffering from anxiety and depression. As a player you will witness Senua’s living nightmare through her own eyes.
From George Orwell’s 1984, to George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, the best fantasy breaks down barriers and lets us see the world without prejudice. This is what we want to do with Hellblade. To see the world through Senua’s eyes, and in doing so, address a subject that is still considered taboo.
Developing Hellblade independently gives us the freedom to tackle a subject as challenging as mental health. It is a subject that we are handling with all the respect it deserves, ensuring that our portrayal of Senua’s condition is both accurate and sensitive. To help us with this we are working closely with Professor Paul Fletcher, a professor of Health Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, as well as arranging to consult directly with people who have experience of mental health difficulties. We are also very proud to say that Hellblade is being supported by Wellcome Trust, which is a global charitable foundation which aims to build a greater public understanding of science and in particular health.

Intriguing, to say the least. There's a dev diary in the link too.

Sounds like an admirable attempt at addressing an issue that hasn't always been handled with much tact. But until I see more from it during release day, I won't make a final judgment about it yet.
Sounds like DMC meets Eternal Darkness.

This is taboo?
Just seeing a female player character in a Witcher/Dark Souls kind of world with an RE 4 camera and a TEW monster in the trailer had me interested.
But topping that off, it's touching on mental illness.
Neat.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Gameplay video, not entirely official and a little bit unfinished but it's pretty nice, looks like the combat is pretty duel-focused (more on that here)
I'm not really impressed by the gameplay, it looks pretty mediocre with no spin on it. I'm not expecting half-swording, expliting enemy movements to hit gaps in armor and all that tactical stuff but I think everyone knows what I meant. It looks like the combat situations can be solved by mostly brute force and occasional blocking.
The rest seems kinda nice so far but it's almost like they're "playing safe" gameplay-wise. I'm thinking they prioritized the presentation over the gameplay, and that the game will be So Okay, It's Average on release.

Most recent trailer:
Man, I don't think since the Drakengard franchise have I seen a character in an action game this utterly broken mentally.
Watch SymphogearAugust 8, huh?
I'm sorry, Ninja Theory is making a game about mental illness? That sounds like a recipe for disaster.
That said, I watched that trailer and didn't really see anything to write home about, so... eh. I dunno.
but HOW?Looks pretty I guess, can't really say much else though.
Why on earth would that spell disaster, though, Ninja Theory's writing has largely been pretty great thus far and is usually recognized as one of their better qualities. You wouldn't happen to be conflating them with Team Ninja of Metroid Other M fame, would you?
Wait, the guys that did the DMC reboot are working on this? Man, that's even worse.
No, but seriously, this is the first time I've heard basically anyone at all praise Ninja Theory's riting. At the very least, every discussion of the DMC reboot I've heard has treated the script as a joke at best.

but HOW?Ignoring that Devil May Cry is exceptionally cheesy on it's own, I wouldn't be surprised every discussion you've heard about DMC's reboot treats it like a joke because there's sort of kind of maybe definitely blatantly most obviously a Hate Dom for it.
Platinum Games would have a pretty crappy reputation too if everybody based their opinions of them off of Legend of Korra. Ninja Theory's mostly worked on a number of forgettable titles with the maybe-exception of Heavenly Sword.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I mean, if most of Ninja Theory's titles were pretty forgettable, that doesn't exactly speak well of them either.
And most of what I've actually seen of the DMC reboot isn't really doing much to convince me that its criticisms are unfounded.
but HOW?I mean, Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West were fairly well-received; so it's not like they have nothing behind them.

I've heard Heavenly Sword was fairly average outside of its visuals for the time.
While it wasn't hailed as a masterpiece of the artform, praise went for the combat system as well. It probably doesn't hold up as well as it did when it first came out.
You might say that looks...Hela dark.
-Glasses-
Gameplay from what looks like the release version.
So yeah. Alan Wake meets Ryse, I guess? Why the fuck not.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence.Definitely looks better then the gameplay from before.
I like the graphics, and its surprising how good it looks since its a mid budget title.
Watch Symphogear
Announced as a (probably temporary) PS 4 exclusive and it's being touted as the spiritual successor to Heavenly Sword
which personally made me squee ever so slightly.edited 12th Aug '14 2:01:27 PM by LE0Night
