I like EMH well enough and I understand what fans see in The spectacular spider-man, but honestly, they are not really the standard Marvel should try to meet. I want something along the lines of The Gargoyles (first two seasons, naturally). EMH is the show which came the closest to that level of storytelling, but it was not quite as deep as I would have liked it.

After seeing the second episode...I still like it, but there is a little bit too much going on for my taste. It is as if the writers believe that the audience has no attention span whatsoever, every minute a fight is going on.

But the humour makes up for it. "What has a dog ever done to a tree?"

Do we have any Wo G about when this show takes place? So far I've been going with before the events of Ult. Spider-Man.

BTW, the show gets a second season. That was fast.

A step up from Avengers Assemble at least. I could even say that its sorta goodish

Peter Quill has the same doofus 'haha its funny how he yelps' thing Hawkeye has going on

But they used Cosmo in the first episode. Good sign that.

And the Grandmaster runs space vegas which actually fits really well.

And Gamora does a thing in every episode, which puts this way about Assemble in that it remembers that it has a female character. And the latest episode was even half Gamora focused kinda. Other half was Rocket focused and he just got a focus episode the last time but. They gave Gamora a character trait!

And I laughed a few times.

Maybe my standards are just low after two seasons of Assemble but yeah this might be good.

At least it has an ongoing storyline which is kind of fun. Now, if the show runners could resist to put some sort of conflict between the guardians in every episodes, I would be fully satisfied.

Well, it's been a while since anyone posted anything here. I take it very little people on TV Tropes are interested in that show. And yet it's already been renewed for a second season... the kid audience, I guess?

[up] I know right.

Other than that, I like this episode as it focus on Gamora trying to atone for her past deeds working in the service of Ronan.

Just a reminder, this is Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon: the one current Marvel Animation that is IMO consistently good.

If I were to compare it to something, I would say that Silver Surfer cartoon during the late 90s era of Marvel Animation. Both are space related shows that expands on the cosmic universe of Marvel that is actually pretty well written but unfortunately overlooked due to the other two shows it shares. Funny thing is both shows are a Spider-Man cartoon with an extremely broken base and an Avenger show that will never be as good as Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

And don't remind me of the obvious difference between the two shows tone. I am well aware of its difference.

[up]The 90s Spider-Man had a huge Broken Base?!! I was under the impression it was beloved. I mean, I found people who said it was better than Spectacular Spider-Man!

It's still fondly remembered in general, I'd say, but after Spectacular (which is honestly a superior show, it must be said) came out, it became rather popular to decry Spider-Man 90's as a terrible show with no redeeming qualities that nobody could actually enjoy unless they were suffering from Nostalgia Filter.

Speaking generally, however, Spider-Man 90's does have some pretty major problems that hurt its aging - ubiquitous censorship issues, animation and choreography that ranged from very good to terrible, sometimes atrocious voice acting (especially from supporting characters), etc. Even fans love to rag on it.

But I still saw a lot of it as the same old "if one thing is good, then X other thing must be terrible in comparison" silliness - the kind that hits every single Batman show that's not BTAS, albeit inverted. That sort of thing has toned down over a while, but its still around.

Personally I think we can at the very least agree on one thing about it: the theme song was kickass.

Actually, I was referring to the other 90s Spider-Man cartoon: Spider-Man Unlimited. That show has a Broken Base of those who like the take on Spider-Man and see it as a spiritual adaption of Spider-Man 2099 and those who hate it for being completely different from the 90s Spider-Man cartoon.

But, yeah in guess Spider-Man TAS could also be considered a base breaker. The show have some of the best continuing plot lines I find in a kids show, have a lot of conflict to keep things interesting, the way it introduce many Marvel Heroes (I wouldn't have known who the hell Daredevil, Dr. Strange, Punisher and Captain America without this cartoon) and is a good way to introduce new viewer to the Spider-Man mythos. However it is infamous for its heavy censorship, lazy animation in later season as well as use of CGO that never aged well, Narmy voice work and the seasonal rot around season 4.

[up].... Ooooooh, this one! In this case, yes, the huge Broken Base part does make sense.

Personally, I loved the 90s series as a kid, though at time I was a bit lost due to Continuity Lockout. Nowadays, I went back to watch it, and.... yeaaaaaah, it hasn't aged that well. But I do agree it still has quite a lot of good things going for it. Also, I remember always being confused by how laser weapons were so common in this series, causing me to wonder if that was taking place in the future^^'

Anyway back on topic, what is so good about the Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon? Cause frankly, the little I saw in the first episode didn't impress me that much. I mean, it was better-looking when it comes to the visuals, but the dialogues still felt like they were trying too hard, the characers still felt somewhat one-dimensional, and the show still gave the impression to be overly emulating the MCU movie.

Some decent character beats, some decent use of cosmic marvel, some honestly earned emotional moments. Partially its just that its less dumb than Avengers Assemble or Spider-Man: Sub-Title De Jour.

Its still very dumb, granted.

But less dumb than Avengers Assemble and even so, the Guardians can get away with being a bit dumb. They're the ragtag group of losers.

Granted, they do the same thing Avengers Assemble does in trivializing Thanos. And Yondu is just a straight up inept bumbling bad guy in this for some reason.

But at least Gamora gets plots.

Now the show needs to bust Mantis out of jail and introduce Phylla-Vel.

What is good about this show? I guess the same reason why early seasons of the Real Ghostbusters is well received.

Like that show, it is a loose tie in series to the movie of the same name but manage to be its own thing for newcomers to enjoy. The characters act just like their movie counterparts from their mannerism to their quirks and have many more traits fleshed out in the show. Speaking of flesh out, I really like the limelight episodes each of the members receive that explores more about them. And the number of cosmic characters that appear in this show really expands on the Marvel Universe as a whole. While the tone is no different from the other Marvel shows at the time, this time it is actually fitting as Got G has always been a light hearted series (not just movie wise, the comics has a bunch of funny moments that would be recreated in the show).

Admittedly like other shows the start isn't that impressive, but I think started to grew the beard either with Rocket's limelight episode where he encounters his family or when Ronan came back to life.

Well, Avengers shamelessly copied their movie when they've defeated Ultron, so I'm not that surprised.
