I think it works. I also don't think the small text is even necessary. A pyramid is a very common shape to use when illustrating a hierarchy. The thing it doesn't show is the difference from a corporate structure, where people tend to move upwards. That's something the current has above it, since blood is something you're born with. Rewriting the text could amend that.

A 3D pyramid, even with the context given there, does not illustrate "caste hierarchy" without labels, so ... keep the most recent version with labels.
