Perhaps more specifically, I feel that bringing it up at this juncture feels like a retroactive justification, without time to breathe and develop. The issues that Amon, Mado, Jason etc had were fleshed out over some time, and hence felt more understandable (even if some of them were still undeniably sadistic bastards). Admittedly, I suppose death-flashback montages and/or reminiscing over the dead are convenient ways to bring in things like this...Nutcracker was sort of a similar case.

An interesting implication of this chapter...if V is the organization running the Garden, then is Shao potentially a spy sent to investigate the QS? Although it's possible that not all the Tyke Bombs from the Garden are directly affiliated with V...Ui and Hairu didn't seem to show any sign of it, at least.

Shachi vs Arima? Wow, that could be pretty intense. Though Arima is likely to be a fair bit stronger.

Chapter's out. Back to big-plot conspiracy issues! Wow, so much was tackled this chapter. I did think it was weird that Eto didn't set off the detector, given that she definitely has a ridiculous RC count - so now we get the purported actual reason. Damn, that was unexpected. So the Rize plotline has finally come to the front, and now we know why she's so significant.

So Shachi and Yoshimura knew each other, huh. That was unexpected.

Hmmm. The hand Torso is holding has a ring - does Mutsuki usually wear one? Or is it from one of his other kills?

On a different note, I just noticed - Hachikawa's quinque has been abused almost as much as his face. Didn't Kaneki already break it once back in the first series? Apparently it got fixed despite being smashed into pieces?

The thing with the gates makes much more sense than any previous assumptions. I'm entirely inclined to believe that explanation.

As for V and the CCG, wow. That certainly explains why Arima of all people would be working with them. And also why he spends so much time as Orcus on His Throne (Or perhaps Kingpin in His Gym would be more accurate?). Can't unbalance the sides too much. I mean, that's the only reason for collaboration that makes sense, right? The Washuu clan wants to keep ghouls as a threat so they remain relevant. So I guess Arima actually spends all his time basically vacationing in the 24th ward. What a boss.

I wonder how this factors into the Washuu family drama. It's been there for a long time without clear explanation. The revelations of this Wham Episode must play a part, but I have no idea how the pieces fit together yet.

Yeah, grandpa Washuu has always been shady as hell. Yoshitoki seems like a pretty chill dude though.

Also, I realised this chapter was released on the week of Valentine's day. Uh...happy Valentine's day, Torso? Or Mutsuki? Ishida, you sadistic little scamp.

About the ring, Torso probably put it there considering he was talking about marrying Mutsuki.

Wondering how exactly he's going to get out considering he's got no limbs, maybe he'll just stab Torso with his kagune until Torso dies while still tied to the chair.

What is Kaneki planning? He's making a whole show of arresting Takatsuki under 'suspicion', when he definitely knows who she is.

He waited 6 months before even beginning the investigation, kept the investigation team to an absolute minimum, withheld information from the other CCG members, went through the whole aforementioned show of arresting her, and even acts somewhat cordial with her (like the 'date' where he accompanied her to get a haircut).

Except for when Eto publically outed herself a Ghoul on television. That made it seem like it was NOT part of his plan.

Does he still have ownership of Hinami until the moment she gets 'disposed' of? For all that he shows to no longer care about her, it's somewhat telling that (assuming he still has ownership) he hasn't simply handed over ownership to Akira (and we know she was almost harassing him about it after the Auction arc).

I get that, assuming he has a master plan to save her, that distancing himself from her would reduce suspicion on him, but he could at least slip a message in a book telling her that he has a plan. Although that would give her hope, which might cause some suspicion. Hell, giving both her and us hope only to yank it all away seems like enough of a dick move that Ishida would do.

I still find it amusing that CCG has no idea that they were so close to killing not only Tsukiyama (Shuu), but that he was also the S-rated Gourmet they were hunting years ago.

Oh, right. Mutsuki's quite fucked right now. I don't know how good her regeneration is, but given that

• a)she's Quinx that's presumably still on Frame 2,
• b) not a Rinkaku, and
• c) at the mercy of a degenerate who would simply dismember her again anyway,

I doubt that she will regenerate those limbs, let alone re-attach them.

But enough about her, I wonder what RC types the three new Quinx members have. At least, with the original four it was balanced with one of each type, but now with three new members there are bound to be 'doubles' (ie more than one of a particular type).

Mutsuki's at least healed from abdominal impalement before, so there might be some hope for reattaching the limbs if the rescue succeeds. (Speaking of which, there was that strange scene back in the auction arc that was never mentioned again, when he encountered the room full of bodies. Is it possible that he cannibalised some of them to heal? It would be a rather delayed and under-the-radar Chekhov's Gun to bring it up at this point though.)

When the QS were talking about "supporting her medical fees" this chapter, at first I thought they meant Mutsuki rather than Haru. Which made me think that (1) they'd already assumed Mutsuki would be badly injured and (2) that Mutsuki had told them about the gender issue.

And about the new members...maybe Ishida will spring a little surprise and one of them will have multiple types, like an artificial chimera ghoul.

Shame he's not a legendary author.

Thinking about it, if Mutsuki's situation now is meant to be a parallel to Kaneki's in the first series, and leading up to a similar conclusion...limbless Mutsuki using his kagune to skitter around could make for a really creepy spider.

(Or it could be hilarious. I dunno.)

We haven't seen any Spider themed ghouls. I imagine it could be very creepy provided he uses his kagune as his limbs.

Given a certain quinque I've seen in action, when are we going to see a ghoul who's kagune functions as a buster cannon?

I fully suspect that Mutsuki will eventually regenerate the limbs, since it's already established that Ghoul regeneration includes regrowing limbs. It will probably require time and probably cannibalizing to do so.

My only comfort in all of this is that if the Kaneki parallel continues, Torso will end up on the receiving end of a vicious beat-down and end up as someone's Quinque. But holy shit is the getting there going to be horrible. I know a lot of fans that are super uncomfortable with this turn of events, primarily due to the potential for sexual assault to occur. (I mean, Torso already changed his clothing while he was out cold.) Considering that Torso was weaker than Mutsuki in their previous encounter and Mutsuki remained out even with the limb removal......I suspect Torso probably came prepared with some sort of chemicals/drugs to knock Mutsuki out. That would explain being out through extensive mutilation.

And man, Eto keeps dropping the bombshells. I know we've long wondered about the RC gates and what was up with them. This totally explains it, if they are indeed programmed to ignore certain RC patterns. It would also explain why Kanou has been so specific with the donors he's used in his surgeries. Using Rize and Yoshimura meant having half-Ghouls that could pass the scanners without effort.

The Quinx heal, not regenerate, though, right? So Mutsuki's probably stopped bleeding, but there's a pretty low chance of him getting his original limbs back But I have my fingers crossed for a Juuzou knives-hidden-in-robot-limbs situation for him.

No, they definitely regenerate. We've seen multiple cases of them recovering from being impaled, which isn't really something that you heal from. Beyond that, there's always the chance of Mutsuki's frames breaking as a result of the stress.
