Who would be the ideal wielders of their rings? I'm not sure if this topic has been raised before, but a quick hope back didn't bring up anything, so... *shrug*

Anyhow, it's an amusing thought exercise that my brain wandered to, and here's what I came up with. Some of them are pretty much painfully obvious, others, I'm not so sure of. What does the troper hivemind think?

Red Lanterns: The Hulk. Full stop. 'Giant green rage monster'? Yeah, Savage Hulk would kind of be the ideal Red Lantern. Plus it would look amazing

Orange Lanterns: I'm honestly not certain for this one. Of the big-name characters, Galactus and Doctor Doom seem the most suited for the role, but neither of them really fit- I mean, yes, Galactus is defined by his hunger, and Doom wants to control absolutely everything, but...

Sinestro Corps: Red Skull is the most obvious choice for this one to me; for all the terror some of the others inspire, when he comes to town, heroes and villains alike start crapping themselves. Other possible choices would be Wolverine, the Punisher, Doctor Doom, Carnage... there's a fair few, but I don't think that any of them inspire quite the same raw fear as the leftover Nazi with a rather unpleasant skin condition.

Green Lanterns: Here's where the choices get trickier. There's just too many for me to choose easily; in no particular order, Daredevil, Doctor Doom, Captain America, the Thing, maybe Doctor Strange? I think I'd say... maybe the Thing? Dude simply will. not. stop. Ever. Thinking of his fight with the elder of the universe, the Champion, where the Champion eventually forfeits because he could beat Ben into a smear on the canvas, but he could never actually break his spirit.

Blue Lanterns: I simply cannot come up with a better chief ringbearer here than Captain America. This is the guy that basically physically embodies hope without any glow-in-the-dark jewelry. There may be others better suited, but I don't know of them.

Indigo Tribe: No idea, honestly. Straight up living virtue of compassion? Bizarrely, one of the best examples I can think of offhand is Thor, of all people. Despite his rather fight-happy nature, he's almost always the first to reach out his hand to help someone, from making certain a pair of orphans get a good home, to accepting his de-aged brother's redemption, to simply being willing to babysit and tell stories to the children of the man who showed him kindness, Thor is (more often than not, depending on the writer, of course) a genuinely nice guy, who it almost physically pains to be forced to turn aside from someone in need by more urgent matters. And even then, he'll usually come back from dealing with the more urgent stuff to offer help. Hardly an ideal candidate, I know, but a stronger contender than most would think, and the best I've got, at this stage :/

Star Sapphire Corps: Bear with me here, folks- there's two, maybe three characters I can think of that would embody the slightly bonkers variant of 'love' that the Sapphires champion. First would be Sue Richards, the Invisible Woman. Her family comes first with her in a way that's vaguely terrifying in its utter single-mindedness, with protecting innocents as a surprisingly close second. Secondly is... and this is another weird one... Spider Man. Not even his crippling guilt complex can motivate him the way love can, be it for his wife (ignoring as thoroughly as possible One More Day >.<), his aunt, even his friends. And when the character is defined by that guilt complex, anything that can drive him harder than that is rather impressive. And last, and almost certainly least, the walking roofie himself, Eros. Mostly for the pun.

Cap as Blue makes way too much sense. I would actually put Spidey as a Green and the Venom symbiote as a Sapphire.

Sort of related: Not long ago, I compared the Color Corps to the Infinity Gems, just for kicks. Here's what I came up with:

Red: The Power Gem is Red. And Atrocitus would love to get it, I'm sure. ;)

Orange: The Time Gem. It would make stealing things even easier for Larfleeze -just freeze time and take it!

Yellow: Reality- With it the Sinestro Corps could make their foes' fears real even more easily.

Green: Soul. This one is dangerous, and requires great strength of will to control.

Blue: Mind. Well, it could be argued that the Blue Corps meditate a lot...

Violet: Space. Not a thematic match with Love, but it could be used to reunite lovers across space (a thing the Zamarons often do.)

The only color mismatch is between the Indigo Corps and the Ego Gem (which is Gold in color.) -unless we make it Pink like it was in the Super Squad cartoon. Anyway, the Ego Gem possessed people, and since the Indigoes went around brainwashing criminals, perhaps they are secretly its pawns...

Heh. Infinity Gems as Power Rings? You're right, it very nearly does work >.O

And the original Venom Symbiote as the prime Sapphire actually works better than either of my choices did. I'm not sure that Spidey would make a good primary for the Green Lanterns, though. While he does have an impressive will, he just doesn't have the same kind of impossible-to-dominate-level of willpower that my previous listees do. Doctor Doom, especially- the guy shut out the Purple Man's control by straight-up willpower, a feat that I'm not sure has ever been duplicated. Doctor Strange and Magneto, as well- they can lock Professor X out by sheer force of will, which is something that not many people can say.

Spider-man Vs. Juggernaut alone would qualify him. Have a look at his section of the Deteminator page if more example. I'd put Spidey's will against anyone on that list... expect maybe the Thing.

Cyclops would be another I think could be a Green Lantern, the guy trapped the Sentry in his mind. Or Blackbolt. The control to never make a sound, even while asleep ? Serious willpower. Of course, a Green Lantern ring would be LESS power than he normally has...

[EDIT] For compassion, Storm and Doctor Strange. While I've never been a expert in Storm, Stephen Strange will go out of his way to help anyone, anytime.

For fun, you could put the Fantastic Four as part of the Sinestro Corp. There are entire alien races that are terrified of them. There was a great moment not that long ago when an alien invasion ran away when Mr. Fantastic told them his name. As an addition to that, Annihilus. The Annihilation Wave killed how many ? Planets died. The galaxy barely stopped him.

Agree that Spidey and Daredevil are obvious Green Lanterns

I think it is a good argument that symbiotes and their hosts would be Violet as per the Mad Love element, but I also think a good argument could be made for Orange, since they are sometimes characterized by overwhelming hunger (read eating people).

I was thinking Magneto would be a great Yellow Lantern since he's a guy who was terrorized as a child and as an adult protects mutants by spreading fear among humans.

Also thinking Doctor Octopus as a Yellow- he's your classic megalomaniac with a bad childhood and as the "Superior Spider-Man", he's The Cowl, striking fear into the hearts of (and savagely beating) criminals.

Because of similar personalities/role as Sinestro, I'd lean toward putting people like Loki, Doom, and the Mandarin in Yellow, but they are also greedy for power, so Orange?

Hal Jordan and Matt Murdock are both "the man without fear", so the GL choice seems like a good fit. I wonder what Matt's constructs would look like though, given how he "sees" the world?

Does Daredevil really emphasize hearing in the same way, though? F-Sharp Bell's powers manifest through music because he literally has no concept of color or visible characteristics at all, which isn't the case for Daredevil.

I suppose Daredevil can "see" shapes, but it might depend on how constructs appear to his radar sense. It's entirely possible that he'd use the ring completely differently than anyone else.
