Oh. Um... HOLY FUCKING CARP. If it's anything like Bayonetta/MGR I'll buy it no matter what console it's on.

It's like God Hand and Van Quish don't even matter anymore... -sob-

God Hand is owned by Capcom because it was a Clover game. Can't do anything about that.

You got your spiritual successor at least. I kinda doubt they would go for that kind of game here though.

I'm liking the sound of that.

And then there was silence

How did they get Platinum to make a TV show tie-in? Are the devs, dare I say it? Fans?

But that's a story for another time.

Apparently Nickelodeon approached them, not Activision. If I had to guess, one of the guys on the marketing team was a fan of Metal Gear Rising and thought it would go perfectly with a Korra game.

Basically, we should expect MGR with a Korra skin. Which isn't a bad thing at all, especially compared to most licensed games.

Platinum are basically game designer mercenaries. You got the cash, they make the game. That said, it's kinda hard to tell whether or not Kurooka had exposure to the series prior to being putting on the project, but he seems to like it.

I have no title.

[up][up]By the sound of things, that definitely isn't the case. For one, it has weapon switching and EXP upgrading. It also seems focused on a variety of different attack modes like in Bayonetta, rather than primary sword attacks with the other weapons on the side.

Metal Gear Rising had EXP upgrading. And Weapon Switching.

Not real time weapon switching though.

I shudder at the amount of ram all the slicing things into pieces must have involved.

I don't think Korra's going to be eating people's spines or collecting their left hands though.

@ Moth. Will Korra fight a GIANT ENEMY CRAB using the REAL TIME WEAPON CHANGE?

Metal Gear Rising had EXP upgrading.

Technically, that's Money Upgrading. EXP Upgrading is where Weapons get upgraded by points that apply to them, and they get enchanted in the gameplay, rather than a shop.

[up][up] In the impressions the reviewers mentioned upgrading the abilities in a shop. Menu. Thingy.

Here.

And what third-person, Platinum-developed action game would be complete without a few juicy RPG elements? Indeed, Korra can slowly level up each bending art to allow for more devastating abilities, from summoning whirlwinds to knocking boulders into the air. Special finishing techniques will also be purchasable from the in-game shop, which means gamers get a little loot spice for flavor.

The difference is really damn arbitrary.

Also, I think you made that definition up.

Sounds like there will be both upgrades through ability use and upgrades through an in-game shop. Interesting, because I don't think Platinum's done traditional EXP-based upgrading before.

anyone ever play that 3-D avatar game on the PC? It was fairly simplistic but pretty fun. Years old, and it was free from nick. Can't remember the name.

you didn't actually play as Aang or anybody, just a random water/earth bender who had their own little fight with the fire nation.

EDIT- Found it, it was called "autumn Twilight". my old copy got erased awhile ago and it seems you can't get it anymore. Shame(we'll see what /b/ does)

Upgrading the Avatar's bending huh?

I was going to b'tch about that, but then again, Book 2 ends with... you know what... so it makes some deal of sense, since Korra's apparently got... according to the Book 3 commercials I'm seeing.

about God Hand

Nah, what I meant was, I bet a lot of you people hear the name "Platinum" and you come into this thinking, "Wow, the guys who made Revengeance, this game is guaranteed awesome!" Used to be, I'd heard about Van Quish or Anarchy Reigns and I was like, "Wow, the guys who made God Hand/Mad World! This game is guaranteed awesome!"

It was a petty jab at people referencing Revengeance here, because that's pretty much Platinum's claim to fame at the moment.

The "mercenary" analogy was accurate - they're pretty varied. They went from comedic, Nintendo Hard beat'em up, to gorey, black-and-white chainsaw massacre, to Iron Man-esque third-person science fiction shooter, to multiplayer beat'em up with color, to multiplayer superhero RTS, to Bayonetta, and now to the anime-esque world of Legend of Korra.

@unnoun Huh. The articles I saw didn't mention anything about a Shop. Also, what else was I supposed to call it? There's still a difference. Granted, I figured with the EXP Upgrading, they would have liner upgrades.

I think we're all making a lot of assumptions here about what things mean and how they work.

I think the safest assumption is that Korra can upgrade her bending powers. How that works is kind of vague, what with none of the reviewers feeling the need to get super detailed. Lots of statements that can be interpreted lots of ways. Maybe we should wait for more details, something more tangible.
