I think if North Korea or whoever these hackers are had the capacity to massacre within America, they would have done so already. North Korea's been screaming to invade for decades. They wouldn't need the excuse. This just gives them extortion power.
If I got killed supporting the right to Freedom of speech there would be worse ways to go. I'm not saying anyone should or would have to die, but this is the time to show bravery in the face of aggression instead of wetting yourself.

North Korea doesn't have the means to truly fight us. If they actually restart the war, it'd be suicide. And Kim knows it, even if his ego is bigger than his waistline.
Following the example of the Alamo Draft House in Dallas, Texas I have put this on my Twitter and Facebook: If we can't watch #The Interview I want everyone of you to watch #Team America World Police Let's gather this holiday season to #mocknorthkorea
Please share this and spread the word. I want this to be a thing. If Sony and the theaters can't stand up for what is the right thing at least we all can in spirit.
I can see him actually trying the suicide taking as many as I can with me route if he's ever diagnosed a lethal cancer or something, though.
I wonder what would happen if Team America were released today instead of 2004
I have this theory the Kims, like so many other narrow minded idiots, have this Animated Ghetto mindset where 'animated' or 'for kids' movies and shows 'don't count', while live action movies. So that's probably why they haven't cared about Team America or South Park, but they do about this.

You are entitled to that, but I doubt the theater company presidents are willing to risk sacrificing innocent people to make a political point.
Theater chains yanking the movie to prevent violence isn't government censorship.
How is a government threatening violence (if not directly) should a work be released not count as an attempt at censorship? Yeah, their ability to act on the threat is in question, but potentially dubious capability doesn't make it any less of an attempt at a government trying to suppress the release of a film.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpSeriously, they're entitled to put the safety of their patrons and employees first. Because quite frankly, if they had gone forward with screening knowing about the threats and someone died, people wouldn't congratulate the theater for standing their ground.

I'd say the studio or theater should have a limited screening, but make it clear that anyone who goes, goes at their own risk. Only people who want to put their lives on the line should put themselves at risk. Sony's right to look out and reduce the potential for murder but they should also give the opportunity to resist for the people who want to.
Steve Carell's North Korea film has been scrapped. This was announced just a few hours after Carell lambasted Sony's decision on Twitter.

Because it's not the government that pulled the film, it's the theaters themselves.
Frankly, I think there's a lot of situations where laying down your life for free speech is appropriate, but IMO a Seth Rogen movie isn't one of them.

I'm no fan of him myself, and I do agree that his movies are hardly worth dying for.
What I'm objecting to is that NK's threat (which was explicitly to try to prevent release of the film in question) is treated as serious in the first place, and not just ignored as yet another bout of "BEST KOREA STRONK" bluster like they've done time and time again when they wanted another food deal.

All your safe space are belong to TrumpBetter than letting the real life Eric Cartman win.
Other than knowing Cartman a) is in South Park, which was done by the same guys who did Team America: World Police, and b) he's a Grade A dick, means absolutely nothing to me, as SP has never interested me. Context?

All your safe space are belong to Trumpx5: The people seeing that one film aren't the only ones at risk, since there's the possibility that a hypothetical attacker wouldn't restrict themselves to the people in theater 3, ignoring the people watching The Hobbit in theaters 2 and 4.

The really bad thing is this'll teach them they can get pretty much anything done, short of a full war declaration, with no retaliations as long as they throw a scare first.

NDC, they already had that with the numerous capitulations by world governments on agreements the Norks have never shown any intent to actually honor. This just expands their scope of use to companies.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpWhat's the worse option here? Letting some dickheads feel smug? Or letting innocent people die?
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Who's to say that letting NK feel smug wouldn't lead to death, possibly even more if they figure they can take us on?
Texas theater responds by screening Team America instead.
So, this scene from the Interview got out. Spoilers, naturally, but seeing as the film won't be shown anyway...

Having a Katy Perry song play while you're getting killed. Not a great way to go. I pity the poor bastard.
The funny part is that Team America is probably more vicious than this one ever was.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectHas the film been canned entirely? Or just simply not being released now? The news today in my area was reporting that "They are no longer going through with the Christmas release", but not that the film entirely was stopped.
And, while I'm glad that the theaters are pulling the movie because I'd rather the film be pulled instead of MORE shootings going on. It'd probably be met with laughs if this happened 10 years ago. But we've had movie theater shootings in recent years. Dark Knight Rises anyone? I'd rather not. God no.
I don't think that Korea actually has the power to pull of such a shooting, and I assume they'd just attack some major theater or something rather than random places, but I don't disbelieve in their ability enough to stake potentially a couple hundred lives on it.
But, good lord, this is a mess... Sony's not looking good right now. And god knows I can see some people getting in an uproar about censoring future movies because 'Look at what the Interview threatened'. Ugh...
I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing. As I read elsewhere, perhaps Twitter or maybe even on this site, the movie Selma doesn't make the South look good. If the KKK threaten to attack theaters can they get that movie pulled too? We have a precedent now.
I think the theaters acted responsibly. As much as I don't like having to react to the shouting of terrorists, I don't like the idea of a theater full of kids getting shot up on Christmas even more
