For a writing project, I'm working on a Pokémon AU fanfiction involving gijinkas. However, in the research stages, I checked for information on each of the regions, so that I could best describe what each of the characters might have known.
However, I ran into an odd detail. The first four regions are based on areas in Japan, while the other two are based on New York and France. This wouldn't have been much of a stickler if all of them were based on Japanese regions or on different countries, but the odd mishmash thereof just weirds me out. I was planning on retheming the areas of Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh to resemble different countries (with Kanto staying as a Japan counterpart since it was there first), but I'm also worried someone might see this as a region-wide Race Lift. Any tips on how to execute this? Or should I just leave well enough alone?
