Seriously?
That's the kind of mishap that lead to fan confusion.
But I recall that being exactly what was said in the English sub. At least the one I was watching. What was mistranslated?
According to Karice, yeah, it's a massive mistranslation (similar to what happened a few episodes earlier with Slaine's musings when Asseylum woke up — not "Tragedies do happen" but "And that's why I'm worried.")
目指す目的の傍らに姫がいる.
Mezasu mokuteki no katawarani hime ga iru.
"She is a means to achieving my ends."
That's what is said in kanji/hiragana, transcript and the used translation. I doubt that translation is in any way accurate. I'm not good in japanese, but a rather literal translation should be "on the side of the objective I'm aiming for, there's the princess". Or something like that. It's intentionally a little ambiguous, of course.

So, googling for the phrase brought up the post by karice67. Guess I don't really have anything else to add. :>

Pour y voir clair, il suffit souvent de changer la direction de son regard www.xkcd.com/386/True. The episode I watched had a very whack translation.
(Paraphrased)
- Inaho: So you were her enemy after all!
- Slaine: If I were only an enemy, there would be no reason to hate her!

What was in your right hand is hope; And in another hand is something else to fade. That too is incorrect, "she" or "her" are never implied. Inaho is only speaking in the context of his decision in episode 7. "So you were an enemy after all!" "If that was just what you were, there would not be reason to hate" are more accurate. There's another mistranslated line. Lemrina's lines to Asseylum when she said she should have remained in coma are better translated as: "Then, I wouldn't have cried. And his heart wouldn't have been thrown into chaos."
「心乱さ」
Means that Slaine was upset and confused. Lemrina did not say he was corrupted. I don't know where did they even get this 'translation' from.

That's terrible.
So I watched the first episode.
I was at the point where an American city (San Francisco, from the looks of it) was getting bombed. When the bomb hit, I was like "Oh shit!"
And then the music, especially the vocal blasted on.
......
......
......Is this actually supposed to be a comedy anime? Because all the sense of seriousness disappeared and I started laughing. The music was just so bad it was hilarious. I know it's the same composer with Attack on Titan anime, but wow.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. It's more along the lines of: This show wants to be taken seriously, but ends up becoming ridiculous. At least, that's how it comes across to me.
So basically this series is full of Narm.
I can deal with that.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel....
...
... That was narm for you?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Eeyup. It was just so damn silly.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. What's so damn silly about it?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. The music, especially the vocal.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. You already said that. Please elaborate.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. What is this, a questioning?
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. Are you reluctant to talk about your feelings in detail?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I'm not even sure how do I elaborate.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel."I thought the vocals were silly in that they... which was incongruous with..." or "I found that the music was inappropriate to the situation because... while normally I would expect..."
Look into your heart, and bring out the truth.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. The vocal, especially the way it repeated twice after beginning reminded me of those soundtracks that you would hear in Dance Dance Revolution and other rhythm based games, only a bit slower.
Satisfied?
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. Are you?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Got word that the second OST is out.
So was there a mistranslation when the Princess told Mr. Eye to give Inaho a message that she "also sees him as part of herself?"
That was correct. Oddly, they mistranslated a lot of Slaine's lines. I remember the "tragedies do happen" which was made up and had nothing to do with what Slaine really said.
That was a mistranslation, he didn't say he was exploiting her. He affirmed she's part of the objective he's perusing which Inaho interpreted he's using her and Slaine snapped back his answer back at him to keep digging into the misunderstanding they have and possibly for it to be resolved next episode. Slaine was being sarcastic and bitter.
