It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference. No death, so a longer sentence is difficult to justify.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleIn contrast Japan loves Stitch I mean hardcore loves him.
Some of the coolest and sometimes bizarre helmets (kawari kabuto) high-ranking samurai wore.
@Physical Stamina: I don't know what you think the American Justice system is like, but in general it's hard to justify a death sentence when the victim has survived their assault. It also varies from state to state, so no, it's not at all likely that similar cases these days end up with the convicted on death row.
I was wondering something about homosexuality in Japan. I read on this site that lesbian relationships are seen as OK for teenagers as long as they "stop" being lesbians when they're old enough to get married (the Schoolgirl Lesbians trope). Is that true? Also, is male homosexuality seen the same way (as something younger people do to practice for a "real" heterosexual relationship), or does it have a different perception?
I'd like to further ask if there's been any substantial pushback against such attitudes?
Oh God! Natural light!Male homosexuality was far more acceptable amongst samurai before the Meiji restoration era, but when Mac Arthur spread his Mc Carthyism in Japan after WWII, it became more openly frowned upon and stereotype.
Watch SymphogearIt has more or less stabilised into a nationwide "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"-policy, with some wards in Tokyo allowing homosexual couples to register as married. In general, gay couples from foreign countries (say Netherlands) can have their marriage recognised in Japan regardless of area, but the Japanese can't.
Women are expected to abandon those relationships, since it simply isn't seen as a "proper" relationship. Men are a bit of a mystery, the issue pops up now and then, but is quickly forgotten.

Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleAnd no there really isn't any pushback against this, there is no real pushback for the treatment of any minority.
You may get one or two things, but it is quickly swept back under the rug and forgotten about.
This topic is actualy the specific reason I left. :/
Yup, that's why fire emblem fates even pissed off some people back home for the same charecter it pissed of amercians with.
Though funnily enough for a compleatly diffrent reason
The Tokyo ward thing I think deserves mention for being extremely recent, 2015 wasn't it? Plus all the chatter I have heard sugest it was done soley to appease forigners for the ollympics..... we have been doing a lot of that, even right down to the maps.
Edit: I would like to mention that things are different for foreigners and natives, paperwork has the highest authority, so if you come over with a document saying your married? Your married. If the document says your a woman/man, your a woman/man.... This is not a luxary applied to natives since we cant get to that point in the first place.

Been to Japan many times, but I use the metro most of the time. Should I stick to SUICA?
Going to Osaka with my family this coming April. Any guides on how to last on a trip in Japan?
Bring cash. Keep your ID on you at all times.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleBe prepared for how crowded the subway gets.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI'm no stranger to that given me and my family's trip to Europe three years ago.
What ID?

Passports, drivers' licenses etc.
For the kitchen sink approach, see this.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotPassports in particular. It will have the visa (if you need one for the stay) and/or the stamp/sticker from the immigration authorities in it. Depending on where you are, the shit you can get for not having them is the stuff of legends.
As a heads up you'll have to fill waivers as you enter the country (given on the plane usually), which they will collect from you as you get to the passport control. They will include the details of your stay (length, address) so keep them handy and also one paper for customs.

Si Vis Pacem, Para Perkeleand Thanks
Sorry to go off-topic with this, but did you get my PM?
Now then, back on-topic. Was Justin Sevakis of Anime News Network spot-on with this assessment on Japan's usage of incest in fictional media?
"The truth is, historically Japan has not had any real problem with incest — in fact, clans would traditionally encourage relationships among cousins (or second cousins) to perpetuate family dynasties. If a father was widowed, he would often marry his daughter. Practices like this continued well into the 20th century, especially in very traditional rural families. Indeed, incestuous relationships were so common in olden days — between siblings, cousins, aunts/nephews, uncles/nieces and the like, that genetics experts say this has introduced all sorts of problems into Japan's DNA."
Didn't know this. Is this why they are so obsessed with blood type?
I think that's more of a horoscope-type thing.
No, blood types are just bullshit fortune telling.

I know it isnt valid, I'm asking if the level of cultural interest is related.
Can't really see any sort of connection between the two, really.
I wonder what some people here think of love hotels.
If only No tell motels were that glamorous.
Watch Symphogear
Well, 14 years is a pretty long time to be in prison.
There are longer sentences, to be sure, but that's still quite a lot.
