Discussion Thread.

Hi! I'm Philosopher Stones. You might remember me from such RPs as We Are All Pokemon Trainers and Yugioh East Academy. Today I'm here to talk about Yugioh RPs. Specifically I want to create one of my own. I'm currently workin' out the rules so gettin' some interest and suggestions while I do would be just peachy.

A problem I see with a lot of Yugioh fan fiction and RPs is the overabundance of cards that would otherwise be 'unique'. Multiple copies of Stardust and people havin' the same Number card. For thematic purposes I'd like to rectify that a little with this RP.

As for the setting and other aspects of the plot, well we can leave that up to discussion. I'll just say though that I'd like to go for a funny slice-of-life that takes place in some sort of school settin'.

Sign-Up Sheet!

Name': Your character's name. Does he/she have a nickname?

Age: The range is 14-18. Your character will be attending a Dueling School with an admittance age of 14. Younger duelists can apply through a prodigy program provided they have exceptional duelling skills.

Appearance: Pics or description is fine.

Year: What year is your character? 1st, 2nd, 3rd or Last year attending?

Unique Card: If your character has a unique card put it here. You must PM me what Unique card you wish to reserve before making a sign-up. More about Unique cards below.

Alignment: Please be either Good or Neutral. If you want to make an Evil character you discuss it with me first.

Personality: What's your character like?

Bio: Your character's backstory. If they have a Unique card tell us how he/she acquired it here.

Deck: All decks conform to the current ban list seen here.

• Main Deck (40-60 cards): I'd very much appreciate it if you numbered your cards. Makes my job a whole lot easier. This exists in an alternate continuity so feel free to use Crystal Beasts, Judai/Jaden's Heroes, Blue-Eyes, Galaxy and the like. Please no Meta decks. Non-meta versions of meta decks will be judged on a case-by-case basis.

• Extra Deck (0-15): Where your Fusions, Synchros and Xyz Monsters go.
• Side Deck(15): Your character is allowed to have a side deck.

As well as the cards on the current ban list, the following cards/sets of cards/strategies will be banned:

• Any alternate win condition such as Exodia (with two exceptions, Gimmick Puppet of Leo and Venominaga).
• Stall/Burn and Nurse/Burn (Note though that this does not omit all Burn or Stall strategies).
• Egyptian Gods, Anubis's Sphinxs, Legendary Dragons, any of the Orichalcos cards, Darkness Neosphere and Destroyer, the Clear Archetype, Unformed Void, Sacred Beasts, the Wicked Gods, Evil Heroes, Earthbound Immortals, Meklords, Malefics, Z-One, Time Lords, and for the time being the Rank-Up Magics, Number C, C Xyx, and Accel Synchros. (If there's any you think I've missed don't be afraid to let me know).
• Addendum: Absolutely no fanmade/custom cards at sign-up.

Unique Cards

These cards are special in one way or another. Some are simply one of a kind. Others have more Divine qualities. If your wish for your character to have a Unique card PM me first to reserve. Characters are limited to 1 Unique card each at sign-up. Additional Unique cards can be acquired later on. For extra fun if you want a Number Card as your character's Unique card I can randomly generate one for you. (Note: Characters are not required to have a Unique card, and having a Unique card in no way makes one character better than another. A well built deck and good characterization will get you farther then any single card.)

• Number Cards
• Black Luster Soldier and it's variants
• Relinquished
• Elemental Hero Neos
• The Planets
• Yubel and it's evolutions
• Venominaga (if you do run this card you can only run it's required trap at one.)
• Rainbow Dragon

In addition the following cards will be Limited to one each and must be reserved in advance:

• Each of the Dark Synchros
• Each of the 'Hands'
• As for now each of the Pendulums. This is subject to change when we learn more about them.

This RP exists in an alternate continuity so character cards are free to use.

As a final note no anime/manga cards. If a card has a different effect in the anime/mange then in the TCG/OCG, use the TCG/OCG version.

My hair is potentially interested. I've got a few decks I could use, like Watts, Saphira-Lightsworns, Batteryman-Hunders or even Artifact-Spirits. My signature deck might be a spot difficult since all 3 of it's boss monsters are Numbers, but eh. Note my tendency to make 2 archetypes in one deck.

Depending on what you end up making, I have a few characters going spare.

I actually have a plan for that in case someone runs a deck where several of it's cards are Numbers.

Are there any restrictions on what cards we can and can't use?

Well it'll either follow current banlist or next banlist dependin'. As well there will be other restrictons. I'll put up a rule sheet tomorrow.

Thanks for clarifying. I was a little scared that someone was going to use Exodia Library or something. That being said I'll probably use Constellars,Zombiesworn or Gusto

Yeah, I've got some interest in this. I got a couple deck idea, mainly either star seraph or reptilianne.

Maybe. A big maybe on a Traptrix Deck.

This ban list is effective until mid July. If the majority of players wish to switch to that banlist then that's fine.

As well characters are not allowed to use the following' cards: Exodia or any of the Forbidden One pieces, any of the Egyptian Gods, the Legendary Dragons, any of the Orichalcos cards, Sacred Beasts, Meklords, Malefics, or Time Lords.

Other cards that are special in some way are considered Unique. Players are limited to one Unique card per character. Unique cards include: Signer Dragons, Duel Dragons, Earthbound Immortals, Aesir, and Number cards. This limit exists for flavour purposes.

Also this is a fun RP so no Chain Burn or Stall Burn decks. Note though that this does not omit all Burn centric or Stall centric decks.

For the sake of completeness, here's stuff from the anime/manga that's unique and that you haven't already mentioned:

• Blue-Eyes and everything related to it
• Rank-Up Magics, and along with them C Xyz and everything involving Xyz Evolution that isn't generic like Gaia Dragon (though minus Full-Armored Crystal Zero since that's a Number variation)

• Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon and therefore Neo-Galaxy Eyes Photon Dragon
• The Wicked Gods
• Crystal Beasts
• Destiny Heroes
• Possibly the Arcana Force cards? It's very ambiguous about how much of them would be generic cards, and how much is "RAWR LIGHT OF DESTRUCTION".
• Neos, Neo-Spacians, and any cards that came with them when Jaden got them (including Dandylion).
• Yubel
• Darkness Neosphere and Destroyer
• Black Luster Solider in all it's forms - they might not be unique, but they are almost certainly so effing rare that the difference is negligible.
• The Dark Synchros!
• Z-One
• The Planet series
• Evil HER Oes
• Unformed Void
• Toons!
• Relinquished
• Hands? (If you watch the anime, they put Girag in physical pain when he plays them - I don't think normal cards do that)
• The "gazer" Pendulum Monsters - for that matter, at this moment ALL Pendulum Monsters are unique.
• Super Polymerization

I also want to point out "character" cards, like Tragoedia, No. Hunter, and Zorc as possible ones to ban as well.

EDIT: Also, the Earthbound Immortals might deserve to be banned simply because the only way to get one in-universe is to be both undead and possessed by them with the goal of destroying the world. Not exactly material for a player character.

This RP exists in an Alternate Continuity where special cards are still special, just in the hands of different people. That leaves most of those archetypes you mentioned open to play barrin' Evil Heroes and Yubel. If someone wants to play Crystal Beasts they can play Crystal Beasts.

In the case of unique cards that have an evolution (Number C, C Xyz, Accel Synchro stuff, etc.) they can acquire those cards later on. If players want to have a Ridin' Duel and have the appropriate decks for it they're open to it.

Darkness stuff is banned as well. As is the Clear stuff to.

The Hands might be Limited if not outright banned because of their use in the current meta.

As for Earthbounds, Sphinxs and the Planets, I'm a bit on the fence when it comes to them. I'll leave those to the people.

When you consider all that the only ones I really missed are the Wicked Gods, Z-One, and Don Thousand's Throne, which will all be banned.

Character cards are free to play.

And yet you didn't flinch when I mentioned an Artifact deck at the top...

I'm kind of curious about joining this. Only problem is, I'm not really in to the competitive stuff. I mostly just play online with my friends from time to time. Would that be a problem?

Competitive decks will be discouraged here so you have nuttin' to worry about.

Plum: I'd have to see a deck before I make a decision. In general though non-meta builds of otherwise metadecks are fine, though they will be thoroughly examined and judged on a case-by-case basis.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I'm going to match my deck's strength to what's around me. If people are playing their creative casual decks, that's what I'll do. If people are tryharding and powergaming and filling their decks full of staples and negation when that isn't the theme of their deck, I'll come out swingin'.

Speaking of, I might potentially ask for a Signer Dragon - Power Tool Dragon (I know it's not technically a Signer Dragon in that form, but whatevs. Sure it still counts.) as a unique card. If I go with the idea I have now (Gemini monsters), it'll be pretty crucial.

By the way, I need to ask, does possession of something like a Signer Dragon mean our characters would actually be Signers (I wouldn't normally ask, but you also mentioned an alternate universe.)

I don't even know what staples or negation are, so don't worry about that from me. I plan on using my Fortune Lady deck if thats okay.

Huh. My apologies, I didn't think that answered both the request for the dragon and the question.

I should've been more clear in hindsight.
