Sooo...All I knew about this was Karen Gillan was in it. I watched this promo.

It's a modern day My Fair Lady/Pygmalion. Seriously. Henry Higgins. Minus the language lessons.

uh....eh? Honestly, part of me wants to run as far away from this as possible. The other part wants to sit and watch. I don't know who to listen to.

I... I'm actually a bit interested. While the difference in 'language professor' is a massive change to Henry Higgin's character, it makes sense since he didn't just teach Eliza diction and grammar and etc, but also has to have taught her social graces.

I do worry a bit that they might miss what the flaws were of these characters though... May not be a bad thing if they have different flaws that could be more compelling to the modern update, but I'll wait and see.

Sorry for the typo. Anyone know how to fix that?

I have to admit, Gillan and Cho did seem kinda cute together at the end of that promo. The parallels could make for a very good adaptation if handled well. Pygmalion was originally about the illusion of society and how shallow we all are when it comes to class. Social Media is great parallel to that, or could be. I just have two questions: Will we see Higgins' mom? And, who's going to be Freddy?

It would be a good parallel except for the fact that social media will most certainly be used to promote the hell out of this, going against the Aesop.

[up]Reminds me of the Lorax, but I suppose going the anti-social media route wouldn't get the show anywhere. I think the word to take from this is that Social Media isn't inherently terrible, just incredibly excessive and overdosing.

[up][up]Assuming this ISN'T a single season thing, they may wait until Season 2 to get them involved so they can spend Season 1 figuring out tone, pacing, and how this'll work as a show. I wouldn't be surprised if the Season 1 cliffhanger is that Eliza has met Freddie or something.

Freddie is the rich guy who is charmed by Eliza, right? The on she sings "Show Me Now!" to, right?

I think so yeah. Freddy Eynsford-Hill. Mostly I remember him stalking her and signing On the Street Where You Live. And being played by Jeremy Brett in the movie (RIP).

I wonder if Freddy will be the cute (if kinda stalkery) dope he was the musical/play, or if they'll flat out make him the evil boyfriend to the OTP.

Depends on the quality of the writing and, let's face it, good editing of trailers can make anything sound like the best premise ever. If a trailer can convince me that I might be interested in seeing a Michael Bay film, then editing can work wonders.

I think this could be interesting. And it doesn't seem to be anti-social media, just pointing out that maybe you shouldn't define your self-worth by the number of retweets you get. I noticed a lot of people praising the writer, but I don't remember her name, so there appears to be a pedigree of some sort behind it.

I am actually looking forward to this. I agree with the guy who said this earlier: I don't see it as a critique of social media, but more of a critique of becoming too obsessed with it and using it as a tool to fuel your vanity. Also, the cast looks good.

My only concern is that I think this could get tired and repetitive quite quickly - I think this would work better as a TV movie than a fully-fledged series.

War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.

So I watched the series premiere tonight. It was actually pretty decent. It wins mostly by virtue of Karen Gillan and Jon Cho have surprisingly solid chemistry and - HOLY CRAP HE'S 42?!

Sorry I was thrown off by that.He looks MUCH younger XD. Seriously there's a 16 year age difference between the two...though that actually does work in context. Higgins was a good deal older than Eliza...

Also, I liked the oddly eclectic soundtrack for the episode, especially a weirdly pretty acoustic cover of You're the One That I Want from Grease. Not sure about the real-time social media visuals though. It works for the show but it screams of "We're borrowing a good idea from another show" because it's so reminiscent of Sherlock's visual texting.

Overall, I think I might give this show a go...

I'm intrigued by the show because both John Cho and Karen Gillan are in it.

I liked it, certainly, but two main things hit me.

1) Wow. Her co-workers are immature. Putting the bag on her chair at a board meeting? Really? What is this? Middle School? That really bothered me. Also, the amount of times I heard text lingo in the dialogue. I can understand Eliza's dialogue, but her boss'?

2) Why is it a half hour format? It felt too short by far. : / I do think its building up to be interesting, but the 30 min format leaves me wanting so much more.

I don't know if people are still watching this show on here, but I highly recommend it. I feel like Charmonique and Bryn are the only weak characters (not that they're not funny), but overall I usually love every minute of every episode.

Henry's yogurt bit was hilarious. And I like that the boss isn't just fixated on Henry, he's just an incredibly affectionate, touchy person, without seeming incompetent.

Yeah, this show is surprisingly good. It could have been awful, but the writing takes what would normally be stereotypes and comes up with reasons for them. Weird exaggerated reasons, but believable ones.

And I think the boss is supposed to be taken as weird considering how the coworkers react to basically everything he says.

Oh, he's definitely a weirdo. But he's a nice caring weirdo. He wants everybody to like each other and get along like a family.

He's almost like Michael Scott, except way more poised, charming, and competent. Only Henry seems to think he's weird. But Henry's basically the Only Sane Man (for a guy who talks to yogurt).

See episode 2 where Saperstein asks people to look around, and there's a blind man who says "dark. Endless night." Henry pulls a double take like "who is that guy?"

I agree. This show kind of feels limit doesn't want o be a sitcom. Like it grits it teeth bares the sitcom stereotypes just bring in those touches of actual funny and emotional warmth - the chemistry between Cho and Gillan, the loneliness the led to Eliza's crippling attachment to social media a a source of approval which gradually morphed into her current self-absorbed nature.

I mean they are exaggerations and stereotypes, but they aren't all that's there.

Also, loving Henry dancing to K-Pop XD

Agreed. It acknowledges what creates these kind of people in our society.

I suppose my only complaint is that the show needs more time. It has ideas, but 30 Mins isn't enough to cover those ideas. Like, the episode where Eliza's mission was to befriend her coworker and ended up social media stalking her. By the end of the episode, she fails through being discovered and is kicked out of the woman's house and... the episode is sort of over. The conflict of the episode wasn't exactly resolved and it felt to me like we got back to Square 1.

I really feel like they need a longer air time.

[up] I'm not really sure the show could support an hour long format, and personally, I think it's fine as-is.
