EDIT: Also an announcement, due to circumstances IRL I won't be able to post on weekends or after around 3:30 EST for the next couple weeks.

/人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\ Will you make a contract with me?Alright, alright! Le's go, let's go!
...so do I get inserted, or do I just jump in whenever?
I am become Death, Destroyer of Miniputts.Just jump into class.
/人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\ Will you make a contract with me?Regardless of whether she's going to be running silent as a meguca or just going to the bench, it might be an option (just an option, mind) for Asakura to go to a neighboring school and only show up in afterschool segments and the like—that's especially workable if it turns out there's a hockey rink nearby and Asakura's looking into the local ice hockey clubs (which I discovered does have a following in Japan, if a small one). If she does go to this school, she'll have to be running silent.
And if she's on the bench, her background lets the GM keep her offscreen for as long as necessary. Those Vancouver-Tokyo flights do take a long time, and after that there's the jet lag to overcome, the paperwork needed to get her settled properly, possibly language-barrier issues...

Charlie Stross's cheerful, optimistic predictions for 2017, part one of three.Apologies for the double post, but, quoth the GM:
In case I confused anyone, I'm sticking with my character instead of switching over to a contractee. So, what are we waiting for? I'm content with either having her "run silent"—i.e., play her as an ordinary girl—or with benching her until further notice. Additionally, if the GM needs her to be out for the school day, I can arrange for delays to happen to her, or for her to go to a different school but come here for afterschool on some justification or another, or something similar, worked out in cooperation with the GM.
Charlie Stross's cheerful, optimistic predictions for 2017, part one of three.Maybe just have her be out sick for the day.
/人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\ Will you make a contract with me?No problem. One paperwork-powered delay coming right up. I'll wait on your say-so for when it'll be all right for her to show up—end of school day, or next school day, or however you plan it.
Flight AMT-ASK out of Vancouver delayed in holding pattern over Tokyo-Narita.

/人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\ Will you make a contract with me?Sorry, I was waiting on someone else... is it okay i play teacher Fujika's role?
We're going to TS to after school here if nobody has anything else they want to do in the slice of life.
/人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\ Will you make a contract with me?I'm fine with the time skip.
"The literal meaning of life is whatever you're doing that prevents you from killing yourself." Albert CamusMe too.
I can work with that.
How do lizards fly?+ + +
I am become Death, Destroyer of Miniputts.Yeah. That works.
re: Rena: in the words of Cierra, "SYCOPHANTS BURN NICE AND PRETTY"
But, yeah, given that Asakura is lounging offscreen, I'll agree with time-skips as needed. Something I've learned as a GM for a game on these fora is that the GM pretty much has to control the pacing, including skipping past the more slice-of-life sections as needed. Not that I was good at it, mind you, just that it's a tiring but necessary GM duty to occasionally ping the players and determine if it's time to cut to the next scene.
Charlie Stross's cheerful, optimistic predictions for 2017, part one of three. Two things.
One: is Kspam still around, I've never seen a post of him...
Two: I can remove my veteran magical girl and switch to a support character to even numbers out.
KSPAM is quite active over in Writer's Block, and we've been in a fair few discussions there recently. Shall I give him a ping for you?
Charlie Stross's cheerful, optimistic predictions for 2017, part one of three.Nah. Players leaving and coming out at random is common though, so I wanted to ask.
Eh, I'll still ask him if I see him again in the Writer's Block.
Meanwhile, request for GM: when you have the opportunity to do so, can you collate a list of active megucas and contractees, with links to their character sheets, and edit that into the OP of the signup thread? It'd be very much appreciated, and would make life easier for us players, I think.
Charlie Stross's cheerful, optimistic predictions for 2017, part one of three.Got it
And TS-ing now!!
/人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\ Will you make a contract with me?I noted, yes! This'll be interesting.
Anyway, thanks, Gladonost, for posting the list. I've been checking out some of the other meguca options; we've got some rather interesting characters in this game. I figure: average meguca combat lifespan is about two to three years, even if we only look at Type-IIIs and Type-IVs—i.e., veterans like Kyouko, Mami, and Homura. Homura herself, at about eight years, may have been one of the longest-serving megucas in history, and she's got iron willpower, a cause, and an incredibly magic-efficient combat style.
Given that, the veteran 51-going-on-17 is rather eyebrow-raising, but since the GM has accepted her, I'll take it in stride.
A note on meguca typology: for simplicity's sake, I figured that we can divide megucas up into four types.
- Type-I megucas are those who turn witch almost immediately after their wish: examples would be Nagisa/Charlotte, and Madoka in most timelines where she defeats WPGNT.
- Type-II cover those who fight for a few weeks but then are either KIA or turn witch; the classic example is Sayaka. Most meguca don't survive getting out of their Type-I and Type-II phases, since that's just long enough to see their wish backfire; given that, Type-III and Type-IV meguca are pretty rare.
- Type-III megucas are the hardened veterans who've gotten the hang of witch-fighting and soldier on despite their wish backfiring; some of them might know that their gem is actually their soul. Mami and Kyouko are the examples here.
- Type-IV is the rarest of all: the meguca who survives extended combat and who knows the secrets of the 'verse, particularly the fact that one day they'll turn witch, and who keep fighting regardless. Homura is the archetypal example here. Their stories tend to be the most exciting, but they are extremely uncommon. I would guess that very few Type-IVs would go on to become witches; most choose to "roll their rifles and blow out their brains/and go to their God like a soldier," in Rudyard Kipling's immortal words.
Given that, our lineup of characters is as follows: five meguca candidates (Anna, Katsumi, Kaz, Junko, Saya), no Type-Is (as of yet!), three Type-IIs (Amity, Mari, Natsumi), one Type-III (Heidi), and a pair of Type-IVs (Kikuchi, Minami).
(note: editing for tact. Apologies; diplomacy is a point I've been working on, with less success when I'm sleep-deprived and undercaffeinated.)
