I dunno, while it illustrates, this is a seriously evil villainy trope, and the suggestion doesn't make it seem so morally wrong, probably 'cause it's Played for Laughs. The guy seems like more of a Jerkass than a Complete Monster. "Buying" tropes seems more like a video game type of thing. I guess it's better than nothing, but I'd like to see other suggestions.

Vertical arrangement seems fine for me. Besides, it catches the "I don't care" attitude inherent in the trope fairly well.

Vertical is fuzzy and is annoying to read. The other's fine. Not a great illustration, but sort of works.
